There's a lot of detail that's missing over this story.
Why does anyone accept any story from the media as being correct? We know they screw up stories all the time and leave out details or make them up or distort them. Why believe this one's any different? Because we think someone got what seems to be what they deserved? Remember we thought the opposite of some other stories but some thought otherwise. I'd like to know a bit more about this. Just for curiosity's sake. Posted by: Bitter Clinger and All That at January 02, 2015 07:34 PM (RZzX3) 22

"While the nephew was giving his statement to police, the uncle returned to the home and told police his nephew had dropped the girl off and that he and the girl were drinking together. Mattson told police they began to hug and kiss while the girl was naked under a blanket, but that he was fully clothed. It’s then his nephew returned and struck him repeatedly, the report says.

A bit like an updated, unscrupulous Bertie and Jeeves mixed with some of the crazy comic thuggishness of a Tom Sharpe novel. However, the trailers for Mordecai just look awful. Btw, I consider the "Selma" lie as one of the most egregious examples of the sycophantic nature of the MSM. Obama claims his parents met each other on the bridge at Selma - in the total absence of any evidence whatsoever that either of those scum ever set foot in Alabama, AFAIK - and that meeting resulted (with the help of a defective condom) in little Barry, and none of the fucking "journalists" there so much as coughed, much less asked a pointed question. As soon as I heard the story, I was skeptical. I knew Our Savior was born Aug. 4, 1961, and I vaguely remembered Selma was in the mid-60s, so my bullshit antenna were twitching uncontrollably. Turns out Selma was in 1965. So ... did none of the "journalists" know any of the relevant dates, or did they know that we'd always been at war with Eastasia? Inquiring minds want to know. Oh, there was more about airborne.
An airborne virus infects you by being inhaled. It fits into receptors or some such that are found in the throat. Droplets don't have the right part to fit into the receptors, and so can't infect you that way. Droplets infect you by direct contact with skin, which they can penetrate and then enter the blood stream. It's all bad, just different in how it infects. An airborne virus spreads much faster as it can hit many people quickly rather than one to one transmissions. Posted by: Meremortal at January 02, 2015 08:38 PM (1Y+hH) 261

For the 100th anniversary of the start of The Great War, I heard Meryl Streep was going to play the wife of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand, who nagged her husband in a cute accent to switch places in the limousine due to the sun in her eyes, on that fateful day. Yes, they plan to call it, "Sophia's Choice Seating Arrangement."

Okay- feel free to bypass this but:
I think some have touched on the notion that there is no real distinction between droplets and airborne. There is no such thing as an airborne virus in the sense of a self-propelled flying virus particle. Viruses are particles. A virus such as Ebola generally is transmitted by direct contact with body fluids (blood, saliva, urine, semen, mucus). The transmission then requires that the virus particles be introduced to the interior of the body (hand-to-mouth, rubbing the corner of your eye, brushing across your nostrils, contact with an open wound on your skin, etc.) Ebola does not burrow through intact skin. This is in contrast to respiratory viruses (influenza, parainfluenza, RSV, etc) that are more commonly ejected forcefully from the body in aerosol form or in larger size as droplets of moisture containing virus particles. These can be directly inhaled from the air as the means of entering the body and causing infection. However, any virus (including Ebola), if present in respiratory passages (nose, trachea, oropharynx, etc) can be expelled into the air by a cough or a sneeze, and can remain suspended in the air for some period of time. By the same token, respiratory viruses can also land on a surface or come into contact with skin and be ingested as with any body fluid, not requiring inhalation. Hence, the distinction is that respiratory viruses are more likely to be encountered in the air near an infected patient, and Ebola is more likely to be encountered in fluids. High level isolation gear provides protection against both inhaled and fluid contact means of infection. The single best means of avoiding infection with viruses is meticulous attention to handwashing when around ill contacts. TL ![]() Posted by: Seamus Muldoon at January 02, 2015 09:00 PM (NeFrd) 326

What I find a bit off putting about Streep is not her looks, but the fact I am always conscious that she's a Serious Actor who stars in Important Films and and usually has mastered a foreign accent for her role. (Yeah, I know she's been in comedies as well, but it's the serious roles I remember.)
She's like the dedicated drama major who always gets As and rave reviews. There's just something terribly heavy and earnest about her. Uh, no, Meryl, turn in your GED. The tox data showed that there was no statistically significant effect. Multiplying almost any number by 300 million gives a substantial result. 406 Child was French by marriage, wasn't she?
Posted by: Jenny Hates Her Phone at January 02, 2015 09:27 PM (sIj5E) Nope. Married an American diplomat. He was stationed in France - that's when she started to take an interest in cooking. She didn't know French or how to boil an egg when they first moved there in the '40's. She wrote a foreword to the 50th anniversary edition of her cookbook and it gives her background. Devil's Advocate was not a pleasant movie, but Keanu pulled his weight in it. Actually, Devil's Advocate was such an ugly movie that it was a damn good "satan" flick. Pacino did a good job playing The Deceiver. Posted by: Soothsayer at January 02, 2015 09:37 PM (haxo2) 429

I haven't watched "Marco Polo" but while I was waiting to get my hair cut a few weeks ago, I was leafing through a magazine and saw a feature on the Italian actor who stars in it. He's a handsome guy, but what struck me is "hey, the dude has a hairy chest!" It seems like it's been a while since I saw an actor who didn't have a chest as smooth as a 12 year old boy's. I am hoping the fad of removing male chest hair is coming to an end in Hollywood.
I don't care if a guy naturally has a hairless chest, like Paul Newman, and I don't like back hair and a guy looking like a gorilla, but sheesh, I hate the idea of guys shaving or waxing their chests. Posted by: Donna &&&&&& V. (brandishing ampersands) at January 02, 2015 09:39 PM (+XMAD) 434

Donna Douglas was a Christian lady. A friend of mine said he once saw her on the 700 Club She was asked what happened to her career. If you get arrested and put in jail, what if you have a dog at home? Do
they let you make arrangements for it? And what about your mail? Do they forward it to the jail? Otherwise your mailbox would fill up fast. And how do you make your mortgage payments? Assuming you are single: 1. You lose your job. 2. You lose your house because you don't make your payments. 3. Ditto with your car. 4. If you can't get in touch with anyone who can take care of your dog - he dies. 5. The police consider making arrangements for pets etc. a "personal problem" and don't care about them. If you're guilty that is your tough luck. If you're not guilty "Oh well". It's OK though - cause guilty or not you've got a 90% chance of being convicted anyway. The only question is who gets your house - the mortgage company or the state for failure to pay property taxes. When you do get out of prison nothing you used to own will be yours anymore. Your bank account will have gone to the custody of the state for inactivity. Maybe you can get that back - or maybe the police seized it as "proceeds of your illegal activity". Oh, and if the mortgage company got your house they'll send you a 1099 for the income taxes you owe on the amount of the loan that you didn't pay back. Of course the equity you built up in your house from all those payments - that all vanishes. As a convict, nobody cares what happens to you. Comes back and hears sounds coming from bedroom-moaning maybe but no screams or "help!" as far as is known. Beats Uncle and girl says nothing was consensual and Uncle says it was. Throw both douchbags in the slammer and lean on Sugartits to get the truth outta her. Either it was consensual and Nephew goes to jail for assault or it was not and Uncle is a rapist with a purdy mouth in general population.
