Best material's on the tweet.

A neighbor got me Doonesbury's "War Years" thinking I'd like military-type comics. I've only kept it this long because I can't find a bonfire insignificant enough for it to trump the usual cereal boxes as kindling. I don't understand how lefty comics stay in business - I can't even picture the dumbest, most biased Warren voter (triply redundant?) laughing at this incredibly strained, unfunny dog shit.

"No, the problem does not lie in lies (unless you are referring to the rapists' version of events). The problem lies in a patriarchal society believing that, 'after all, boys will be boys'. In this particular case, it seems that the problem also lies in the fact that those in charge at Rolling Stone do not understand the effect that trauma has on memory and a victim's ability to report a consistent, consecutive narrative. It is quite common for witnesses to a tragic, shocking event to give conflicting testimony of what happened, how and when and in what order. No one pretends to believe that that means they are all lying and the event did not happen. But when a woman's testimony about rape conflicts with any other witness report...'the problem lies in lies'."

License Plate Reader Technology Looks At Faces... http://drudge.tw/1zrF7fD

The leading suppler of automated license plate reader technology in the US (ALPR, also known as ANPR in Europe) is expanding its offerings to law enforcement. Vehicle owners have already had their movements tracked by the company Vigilant Solutions, which boasts 2 billion entries in its nationwide database, with 70 million additional license plate photographs being added each month. Now passengers can also be tracked if they hitch a ride with a friend and are photographed by a camera aimed at the front of the car. The Livermore, California-based firm recently announced expanded integration of facial recognition technology into its offerings.

"The new Vigilant Mobile Companion app expands the benefits of license plate recognition and facial recognition technologies to all areas of the agency," a Vigilant Solutions press release claimed. "Using many of the new analytic tools that Vigilant has released in its Learn product over the last couple of years, the app makes these tools even more easy to use and accessible on a mobile device. The app also features Vigilant's Facesearch facial recognition which analyzes over 350 different vectors of the human face."

Berkeley Breathed is still very much alive. But he got out of comic strips quite a while back. AFAIK, he did it for reasons similar to why Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes) quit. He'd been doing it for too long and wanted to move on. He's released other stuff from time to time. For instance, back in the '90s I saw a gorgeously illustrated children's book by him. 181 Berkeley Breathed is still very much alive. But he's done with newspapers.

Agreed. The strip was very funny in the 70's. Even though the strip obviously leaned left the humor wasn't especially mean spirited. like it is now. That changed with the election of Reagan. Like so many on the left, Trudeau just wen full nut case delusional. The jokes about Reagan had a vulgar maliciousness that those about Nixon never had. People like characters who do something, take action.

Archie but especially Alex Keaton were characters who just got on with it, went to work on making their lives better regardless of their POV which had virtually no effect on anyone.

Meathead and Alex's parents were a bunch of whiny libtarded hatchet-headed scolds, whose high opinion of themselves was not validated by the world outside their heads.

Meathead especially.

Of course, libtards couldn't see it,

That was the easy to see part of it, what would you call season 3-5 of the show?

Basically the writers started to act like the audience was a bunch of assholes b/c they tended to prefer David over Maddie....

The story was envisioned as a Cybil vehicle(and boy wasn't she properly named) and instead Brice Willis took the show and ran with it....

anyway the introduction of Mark Harmon, the Baby, the death of the baby etc etc

at some point it felt worse than a hangover from cheap wine to tune in....

Moonlighting taught me to use the word "boinking"...

so there's that.

If you believed much of what has been written, sung, or performed in
the UK every evil, whether real or imagined, that's developed since
1979 has been Thatcher's fault.
Hell, I think some of 'em have tried to blame WWI on her.

Ooooh, that reminds me... Elton John wrote an anti Thatcher song for the Billy Elliot Musical. Implies the strike was Thatcher's fault but of course when I looked into the facts afterwards, things were much more complex than that. But Thatcher is an easy target so why not, I guess. Liberals gotta lib. But calling her Tory swine in song, lovely.

Did some informational poster/teeshirt design work for the Ship Of Hope charity, which is currently doing amazing work in Liberia. Speaking with Mr. Engels, who is running things onsite there, the awful potential of the disease, the speed of transmission and the sheer virulence of it--according to him--is downplayed by western media. It's worse than you think, he told me.

Investigators think the current outbreak in West Africa started with a family of five who made their living by harvesting bush meat--in this case infected fruit bats--for markets in the cities, where urban dwellers craved a 'taste of home'.Evidence indicates poorly cooked fruit bats are what set the whole thing off in the first place.

So if someone with Ebola who is starting to evince symptoms (coughing and fever) entered a crowded subway, for example, and that instance was unnoticed or untracked by authorities, the results could be devastating.

425 Family Circus is more hip and up to date than Doonesbury.

426 Funny. I happened to glance at it yesterday for the first time in what feels like forever, and saw that. I, too wondered what the deal was. Why should i be shocked?

427 just wait til the special Starsky and Hutch episode where they get in a big car chase with the frat boy rapist.

428 Even though these cartoons are written up weeks in advance, anyone who does this for a living knows to have some in reserve to substitute if need be, and could have. But Trudeau either didn't know the truth or simply didn't give a crap because of Teh Narrative.

He did the same stupid thing with the Grand Canyon "banned books because of George Bush" lie. It took me 2 minutes on the phone to find out the truth from the visitor's center, but he just doesn't care. Its confirmation bias mixed with a need to push a narrative. What the facts are in the case simply are irrelevant.

429 I mentioned this Doonesbury strip to my 22-year-old daughter.

Her response: "What's Doonesbury?"

So. Aging hippie mewling the narrative to other aging hippies.

430 @424 That is a killer. Well researched. Hope it "goes viral."
See, it was different when "we" did it.

If you look for Trudeau's commentary on Clinton vs Broaddrick you'll be looking a long time...

432 @257 I was gonna go with Fredo Corleone quote as well.

433 Also, watched the 1979 mini-series "Centennial" last night on MoviePlex with the parents. Holy crap, but the last parts from 1933 on were slobbering love letters to the Carter and Roosevelt administrations. I couldn't help but make MST3K-style "Pepperidge Farm remembers" jokes during the Dust Bowl segment.

Also never make the following joke in front of your mother:

"'Lame Beaver?' Why couldn't the Arapaho have just called him 'Menopause' like normal people?"

Posted by: PaperworkNinja at December 29, 2014 05:05 PM (J991N)

434 I can't be the only one who noticed that Doonesbury has completely ignored Obama's presidency. The strip stopped doing any president related story lines after Obama was elected. Trudeau hasn't even created a floating "icon" to stand in for the president, as he has done with previous presidents. It's been six friggin years! Sarah Palin sneezes and Trudeau did a two week story, but Obama gets. Free pass.

Posted by: Hamilton at December 29, 2014 05:13 PM (a3+wd)

435 In Trudeau's defense, all his comics are incoherent nonsense anyway, and it is probably unfair to infer anything from them.

436 And NO ONE on our side can write a Swift level satire?

Someone is out there, to be remembered for centuries.

It is almost as if the balloon is waiting to be burst in a satori moment when the absurdities, the crudity, the barbarism, the hatred and the arrogance of the Left will go off like a nuclear explosion no one can deny seeing, or cannot see.

By coincidence I saw that Sunday DB strip. It was the first time in many years I read DB. I just assumed it had always been retarded and I was a dumbass for ever thinking otherwise.

Posted by: Frankly at December 29, 2014 09:17 PM (lJP2H)

439 And the military? Why does the military cover up sexual assault?

Because it's HOMOSEXUAL rape. Can't have those sacred gays looking bad!

Posted by: RKae at December 30, 2014 12:58 AM (Sbd6E)

440 Isn't that the broad who ditched her own husband and children to "find herself" back in the strip's "heyday?" And she ended up married to Mike Doonsbury with another kid?

Posted by: richard mcenroe at December 30, 2014 12:58 AM (XO6WW)

441 Comics are submitted weeks in advance. The retraction didn't permeate the left with the same speed as the initial story. (What retraction ever does?)

Posted by: tripnjive at December 30, 2014 09:31 AM (HT9GF)

442 I read down to the part about covering up sexual violence and how some people are protected and I thought...

Bill Clinton and Juanita Broaddrick.
