Do you think we'll have the Pope ever talk to leaders about real moral issues?

How on Earth did the Catholic Church get a left-wing political activist as Pope?

Glad I'm not Catholic, if I get a church leader that wants to become a political activist, I'll move down the street and let the crackpot preach to a bunch of empty pews.

It confirms what I've been trying to explain to folks whenever this
topic comes up in conversation: That the people leading these mobs
really think they are starting a revolution --- and not just any revolution but a communist revolution.

These are not just "peaceful protests" against "police brutality," as
the mainstream media endlessly parrots. This is an attempt to ignite a
race war, as the necessary precursor to the complete overthrow of
democratic capitalist society.

90 China will strengthen financial intelligence exchanges with the United States and Australia to track corrupt Chinese officials' illegal assets and fight money laundering, a senior official from the Ministry of Justice said.

The People's Bank of China is in discussions with the US Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, a bureau under the US Treasury Department that monitors financial transactions to fight crime, said Zhang Xiaoming, deputy director-general of the ministry's legal assistance and foreign affairs department. Preparations are being made for a bilateral agreement to target assets that Chinese suspects hold overseas, Zhang said in an exclusive interview.

The central bank will also sign a similar agreement with the Australian Financial Intelligence Unit to monitor the suspicious flow of such assets, he said.

"After the agreements are made, China will share intelligence with the US and Australia, which will also offer information to their enforcement agencies to conduct further investigations," Zhang said.

I keep hearing the Pope is going to pull them in and then start actually preaching God's Word once he's won over the media. Something tells me this is not a warm up act but wants to take the Catholic Church into a very liberal direction.

136 The purpose to the GOP selection process is NOT to find a candidate that can beat a Democrat.

It's to make sure that, under no circumstances, no conservative wins the nomination.

The big donors don't want the size of government reduced or budgets cut. They want their largesse protected. As long as both major candidates are pro-big government, their interests are safe.

137 The painting above is pretty cool. The theme is time opposing forces in geolocation cycles, I think.

Rock formations illustrate geologic time and the geologic forces of formation, uplift, and tilting.

The ocean is just as ancient a geologic presence and represents erosion.

The tree is old to us, but young to the rocks and the ocean, but life itself is just about as old as they - and it won't give up. See how it grows right out of the side of the cliff, defying gravity, erosion, and time.

Plus, I like the colors.

True. A lot of people (me not excluded) have trouble with some of the more personal parts of Jesus' teaching. "If you have hated your brother in your heart..." or, "If you have lusted after a woman in your heart..."

Yeah, many Christians spend a lot of time explaining how they're not guilty of sin like this, when Jesus' point was that *everyone* hates, and *everyone* lusts, and so... yeah, you're a sinner whose desires are at odds with God's. The reality is people don't feel they need faith 'til they're on their deathbed. #SCIENCE@!! has made it uncool, there's plenty to distract us and keep us busy, and absolute morals are basically outmoded in western civilization.

The only way the Catholic Church, and many others, survive will be to provide the moral guideposts some of us want. But the new leadership would rather "modernize" and tear that down to attract... absolutely no one.

He has almost zero influence, 99% of self-described conservatives likely have no idea who he is. He just sort of had a website that was a catchy name like "RedState" when the media was focused on the concept of red and blue states and suddenly he thinks he's William F. Buckley.

Well, that, too. But the main point of Jesus' teaching was that the Law (that is: the Hebrew Law) could not get you to Heaven. Peter, John, and Paul all remark on this in their letters later- that if the Law could bring Salvation, there would have been no need for Jesus in the first place.

So a lot of Jesus' ministry was to point out how hopeless everyone was without God's Mercy and Grace.

I've been wondering how people can still advocate communism when everywhere it's been tried is a loathsome shithole.

I mean, what's the point to clinging to communism in Cuba or North Korea? It's got to come down to simple power of the ruling elite. I don't see how some western dipshit commie can think it's going to turn out to be anything but Mafia rule like it always has everywhere else.

The same country that Bush caught red handed training and supplying insurgents in Iraq.

The same country we could easily prove trained and supplied insurgents in Afghanistan...

Annnndddd... the same country we will allow to have nuclear weapons, even though THEY have been at war with us, since 1979....

Some of the more egregious ones, yes. But that's not the point. I'm sure the Rs will screw up plenty in the next 2 years- but let's actually see what gets screwed up and how badly before we actually cover them in tar and feathers.

Our system was invented to create gridlock, so I don't expect things to get "done" over the next 2 years, but the alternative to Republican control is Democrat control of Congress.

Believe me, they have a pretty long wish list. Obama wouldn't be screwing around with Executive Orders that are getting tied up in Court, it would be full fledged Amnesty. We'd have 20 million new US citizens if Pelosi and Reid were at the helm, I have absolutely zero doubt about that.

I also think a big win even in the bluest of states challenged this notion I'm so sick of hearing that America has been taken over by the Left and there's nothing we can do about it.

Obama's judges got appointed because Reid nuked the filibuster for judicial nominations. Reid nuked the rule expressly to prevent the Repub minority in the Senate from blocking judicial nominations.
You can have your own opinion, you can't have your own facts.

Repubs wouldn't have blocked most of Obama's noms. They would have blocked the most left-wing ones. Reid nuked the filibuster so Repubs had zero power and couldn't block any nominations.

Now they can again. They won't block most of them, but some of the most left-wing ones will get blocked.

296 James Jeffrey, a former U.S. ambassador to Iraq, said the Obama administration may have made a mistake by not conducting limited airstrikes after the Islamic State's initial advance.

Iraqi officials pleaded for assistance this summer as the militants appeared poised to overrun the Iraqi Kurdish city of Irbil and even Baghdad, the capital. But White House officials, frustrated by what they saw as the sectarian policies of then-Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, insisted first on political reforms.

"The Iraqis were in desperate straits, and the only ones who came to their rescue was Iran," Jeffrey said. "These guys will remember that."

Yeah, they rationalize the fairy tale by saying 'this time we'll do it right,' but they've got to know that they're really throwing in for a future of oppression, murder and starvation.

Leftists aren't interested in building the perfect utopian society that they blather about, they're ONLY interested in destroying the status quo. The aftermath is some nebulous future that they'll never see and they don't think about.

To use my stock, cliche'd joke about Senor Guevara, Che left Cuba within a year or two of the revolution because he quickly realized that it was a lot more fun to blow up trains than to make them run on time.

362 Bicyclist struck down by God ...

In an email to the clergy of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland, the Right Rev. Eugene Taylor Sutton has identified the driver of the car involved in the fatal bicycle crash on Roland Avenue yesterday as Bishop Heather Elizabeth Cook, ordained in September to serve as Bishop Suffragan, the No. 2 spot in the diocese.

"I am distressed to announce that Bishop Heather E. Cook was involved in a traffic accident Saturday afternoon, Dec. 27, that resulted in the death of bicyclist Thomas Palermo, 41," Bishop Sutton wrote today, noting that Cook did not sustain any injuries.

Bishop Sutton also confirmed reports that the driver at first left the scene of the accident, as police and witnesses have reported.

"Several news agencies have reported this as a 'hit and run.' Bishop Cook did leave the scene initially, but returned after about 20 minutes to take responsibility for her actions," Sutton wrote, according to the text of the email obtained by The Brew.

Sutton also said that he has placed Cook on administrative leave, effective immediately, "because the nature of the accident could result in criminal charges."

367 This painting is completely ace. I bought it just now on Vista Print. Large size. They're having a 30% sale, dontchaknow. For the largest size there is extra white on each side of the print but I'll trim that then mat and frame it.

Thank you for posting.

I discovered you can buy metal frame sides in pairs, in the style of your choice, pre-mitered and with the hardware included to assemble them. (corner inserts that separate by a screw and held together by pressure) The trickiest bit is finding the glass. Hardware stores can cut the glass so can Hobby Lobby, and the like. So it gets down to transporting a sheet of glass. Assemble 3 sides of the the frame, leaving open one long side. Stack the art, the matt, mat window if you cut one out and spacer, and glass, and slide the stack into the frame the short distance then attach the fourth long segment, tighten the screws and, VIOLA!

I mean to say "VOILĄ!" just now but that other word came out.
