"Oil price scenarios for 2015 and 2016"
Whenever there's a hard dip in the oil price, I always wonder if it's because someone somewhere has finally substantiated Tommy Gold's wild old theory of abiotic oil origins, and shown conclusively that the stuff never will run out for any practical purposes. I have grave demurrals from Gold's ideas, but just assuming for purposes of argument that they or something like them were true, imagine the total shit hemorrhage the ecoholic left would have. A big part of their schtick about "renewable energy" is the line about how, well, y'know, the oil's running out quickly anyway, so we don't have much to lose by going green right away. I suspect it would come down to OMG CO2. To wit: well, y'know, the oil never will run out, but we dare not actually extract and burn it, because we court Thermageddon by doing so. Slightly related to the unwanted phone calls are the letters I get from dealerships wanting me to trade in my car and who are willing to match or beat my current payment if I trade in and buy a new car from them (my car is apparently popular in the used market). No flu here. Fingers crossed. Did not get immunized this year. Which might be okay. I understand that CDC missed, and the most prevalent strain showing up is not one of the ones in this year's shot. The machine-gun range out West, where they handed a tiny little girl an Uzi and she promptly managed to shoot the instructor next to her in the head, to fatal effect, scared the crap out of me. I've had more than enough dopes muzzle me on conventional ranges. Sometimes with safeties off and fingers inside guards. More love for Whitey from Tessa Kum, the lady who started Illridewithyou:
"None of us can take a break from not being white. You, white person, with all your supposed good intentions, will never let us. Either because you're actively racist, racist but with too delicate an ego to ever do anything about your racism except cry about the mean PoC, or willing to remain silent and let us carry on without support. My strategy for fighting unwanted phone calls: Get a Google Voice account and only give out your real # to friends and family. Google Voice gives you an easy way to forward calls and block callers.
I noticed an increase is unwanted calls from questionable callers after I had a car accident. I was going to a lot of medical offices and filling out a lot of paperwork. I thought these papers were supposed to be confidential but I suppose someone along the line somewhere must have been selling my phone number because the calls started around that time. Now when I have to fill out paperwork or give a phone number to a store or something, they get my Google Voice number. Only friends and family get my personal cell number. If you don't like Google, you can also download one of those free call blocking apps for your cell. Many new landline phone models also come with call blocking features. That may not have been all that they were selling. The back rooms of medical practices are a major, major, major tap root for identity theft. Where I can, I try to pay in cash for this stuff and not provide things like my SSN. I'd actually like for my medical file to identify me as Throatwarbler Mangrove or some similar untraceable nonexploitable pseudonym, but that makes prescriptions a nonstarter. BCochran: can relate.
What works for me is -- and don't get me wrong, I love my Mom and our relationship is better right now than it's been in a long time -- but by far, I've realized *I'm* not the one my Mom really respects. Who *does* my Mom really respect? My youngest sister's husband. So what I do in situations like this is to get that BIL to back me up in my claims, and most of the time like magic, that clears up all confusion and controversy in my Mom's mind. Oh boy, do they ever. Internet spammers, too. I have serious disquiet that sooner or later, one of the older members of our extended family is going to get taken by an e-mail phishing scheme. There are concepts they simply don't get, and will not get, regarding the fundamental insecurity of the Internet as presently constituted. And many of these campaigns are clearly aimed at them. "OFFICIAL U.S. FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WARNING: YOUR MEDICARE BENEFITS WILL BE PERMANENTLY CUT OFF WITHIN 24 HOURS IF YOU DO NOT LOG IN TO OUR WEB SITE TO RESPOND AT ONCE". With a link ostensibly to some medicare.gov site, but which is really to xmb597.gfh12.cn. I've told them each at least a dozen times to never respond to any such thing without checking with me first off. I am not confident they will reliably do so. I may have to actually set up a scheme to filter and forward every single bit of their inbound mail. It's that bad. And then of course I will have to keep that hidden from them, because (a) they "don't want to be a burden", and (b) they still think at some level that I'm a kid barely out of diapers and THEY are the responsible adults. Once you've piled up enough goodies for them to charge you a pretty penny (I think the minimum is $250), they offer 4-, 8- and even 12-month payment plans. And they apparently don't check credit as they've even approved *me* twice. (Thankfully I came through on the payments both times.) I believe if you're in the lower 48, they offer free shipping too. *And,* the last item I bought (some M-Audio speakers), I was able to find them for something like $150 less at Amazon. I wrote to them via email, and they counteroffered me a deal for the same speakers, new, for just under what Amazon was charging, and *still* allowed me to use the 4-payment option. They claim to be from Microsoft and tell you that you have a virus. Then they have to go online and check the registry, and they declare a perfectly innocent entry as a virus. After that one of two things happens. They tell you to buy some software (as a discount of course) and install it... and by "software" I means a virus, worm, or other such nasty. Alternately, they will have you download some software (again, completely innocent software) that allows them to view your desktop and control your curser... and then they run some nefarious commands. Too late for the Rubio thread, but here is a (tranlated) fragment from an editorial from ABC Color, by Eduardo Quintana
[...]Cuba follows the guiding theory of a system for the elimination of private property and total control of the means of production, although in recent years there has been an attempt to bring about reforms. What is certain is that the few economic measures that have been allowed have resulted in the bettering of living standards of more than eleven million people. It is common to read or hear, by the defenders of Cuban Communism, that the country is commended by international organizations for the elimination of illiteracy and is considered to have a good health system. What they forget is that, lamentably, the Cubans do not have liberty. And this is not a minor detail. Without the possibility of creating or studying as one wishes, what is the benefit of learning to read or write? If one cannot criticize the government, can one be proud of literacy rates? It is a barbarity that during the celebration of the International Day of Human Rights the dictatorship of the Castros arrested various members of the group "Damas de Blanco" [Dec 10 2014]. It was simply a real world demonstration of how a revolution begun in 1959 continues, using the inhabitants of the island as guinea pigs What began as an adventure to depose an authoritarian government turned into a political and economic nightmare. Even today Cubans attempt to escape in large numbers from the dictatorship by sea, risking their lives to find a country truly free or at least looking for better working conditions for their families. In this light, it is pointless argument to defend the existence of the last dictatorship in Latin America. [and it goes on from there to a few closing remarks, and addressing the socialist governments of Venezuela and Bolivia] Posted by: Kindltot at December 19, 2014 11:48 PM (t//F+) 389

If it's a good dog training class they're very supportive and helpful. Remember that scene in "Marley and Me" where he got kicked out of dog training because he had the worst dog in the class?
My first dog was a keeshond who was a combination of smart and naughty. He was the worst dog in the class. The lady who taught the class kept telling me, "Don't give up, he'll settle down when he's 2 or 3 years old. Posted by: IllTemperedCur ---------------------- Heh. In my dark past, I had two partners in a software company. We produced software for tracking sales leads. Periodically we would receive cellophane wrapped card decks in the mail. The card decks were bundles of prepaid post cards which were each from different companies that had *something* to sell. One of my partners came up with a brilliant marketing scheme..., OK..., devious marketing scheme. We had a sticky label printed up that said something like "How are you tracking the leads produced by theses cards? Call us at xxx.xxx.xxxxx to inquire about our industry leading software". Slapped the labels on the (postage paid!) post cards, dropped 'em in the mail. People went ballistic. Weren't so happy that we were using their dime to mail them advertisement. Sony stood firm and took it like a man when only they were the ones being attacked/hacked. They only pulled the movie when NK threatened physical bombings of innocent movie-goers. I can't believe how many conservatives (my beloved Mark Steyn included) are calling Sony cowardly over this.
The Pentagon lists cyber-attacks as an "Act of War" yet POTUS and Congress let Sony twist in the wind BY THEMSELVES. Maybe if our government had let Sony know they had their backs, Sony wouldn't have pulled the movie. Can you imagine if NK had actually bombed some theatres? Sony would have blood on its hands. PR nightmare. Ruined ticket sales for ALL other movies playing right now. Since when do we expect little private companies to stand up to BOMB threats by foreign governments? What if AQ had threatened United Airlines a few days before 9/11, should UAL have still flown that day just so "terrorists wouldn't win"? No, they would've grounded flights and the government would've fought AQ. UAL is not required to fight AQ, that's what the government is for. Sorry for the rant. I'm just sick of this. 95% of the calls we get on our land line are telemarketers, so we rarely answer any more. In the new year we'll probably ditch the land line and go VoIP. But I've had a few calls that went something like this:
Hello? Hello Mr. _____, we talked with you earlier this year about having your heating system serviced and cleaned, and I'm calling to remind you... Excuse me, I never talked with anyone about servicing our system. Well I have a record here... No you don't. I installed our furnace and service it myself. But... I don't think it's a very good business practice to try and win new customers by starting off with a lie. Well I'm just... Thank you, bye. Ah, I have no idea how that happened. We can process your debt via credit card right now, over the phone. Gee, all mine are cut up. How about a check? Who shall I make it out to? Well, we're not really set up to process checks. Oh, how about cash? By all means, come right over. Let's settle this up right now. I live at 2801 Baseball Bat Drive. Weirdest telemarketer call I ever got was in a rented condo in Maui. Chinese lady claimed something was wrong with my computer. Her English was so poor that I kept her on the line for about 5 minutes and had her repeat everything about 3 times each. Each time she said something it kept getting worse and I kept correcting her grammar. Finally I asked her to put her supervisor on the phone. She hung up.

I suppose it's different through a guitar amp than a
stereo speak. One time I tried it, I put the phone down next to the stereo speaker and blasted some metal. 4 or 5 minutes later the lady was still on the phone going "Hello? Hello?" Yeah not quite what I expected. Posted by: Iasonas at December 20, 2014 12:23 AM (DU875) The telephone network limits the strength of the signal going to the earpiece, regardless of how loud a noise is fed into the mouthpiece. You could set off a stick of dynamite on your end, and all the other party will hear is bang! I mean, look at the damn phone: the earpiece is less than 2 inches in diameter, and its diaphragm is constrained to move no more than maybe 1/16". It probably can't put out more than a quarter watt of audio. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at December 20, 2014 05:08 AM (gvtTX) 548
