However, they can do that knowing they won't go to jail or get killed over such a stand on principle. OTOH, they might well get killed over such a stand on principle when the person threatening them is a psychopathic dictator like Kim Jong Un.

I think there's been a serious downward decline. I thought they were great on 'Freaks and Geeks' but that was 15 years ago.

which is completely false. I am not arguing for homogenous societies, but it is well known that there is far less criminality in homogenous populations. Stronger social identity and enforcement of common mores. When there is an influx of new populations, there is a corresponding increase in criminality. That has been the case since they started tracking it. Which I am sure they do not anymore.

The Church's mission is not the US' mission. The Church's primary mission to bring the Word of God and the Eucharist to as many people as possible to prepare their souls for eternal life.
The United States mission is to keep us safe.
Those two are going to collide at times. I'm ok with that.
Despite what has been reported, this Pope has not changed one doctrinal aspect of the Church, nor hinted that he might - which he cannot do unilaterally.
Are there things I wish he would be better on - yes. But so far, he seems to be very good at evangelizing. I think that is a great thing.

I am more inclined to think that the security at Sony, and possibly other Hollywood studios, is not all that good.
The implication is that anybody who is sufficiently determined can have the same influence on Hollywood movie makers as the Norks. Hack into their network and download their emails. Leak a few embarrassing racist emails. Blackmail them over the emails where they are conspiring to commit felonies.

It was absolutely incredible.
Not one but two of the classic "Marine One" presidential helicopters.
And FOUR V-22 Ospreys escorting those.
Figures aren't released so far as I know on how much it costs to operate the Presidential helicopters, but it is publicly available information that the Osprey is one of the most expensive aircraft per flight-hour in the entire Pentagon inventory.

Diversity only provides "strength" when it's a hybridization of the good in various cultures. Moral relativism and multiculturism render diversity either meaningless or actively harmful to questions of strength, much less "safety."
The Netherlands and other countries in the EU are some of the most tolerant places on Earth, but they are routinely targeted by head-hackers. The idea that being "intolerant" somehow raises your profile with these folks and thus dhimitude (errr) tolerance will make you safer is simply empirically wrong as well as morally cowardly.

Well, I'm a little more sanguine about an extrapolation of this nature opposed to an overtly political one. Now maybe the "million mummy" number is an extreme extrapolation, intended to spur more funding for the research, but I don't have a problem with funding this research. One, it's actually interesting, and two, it's not likely that I will be told to modify my behavior in some stupid way as an outcome of that research (looking at you, Gerbil Worming researchers). Also, given that it's in Egypt, those mummies are in peril of being destroyed by islamists for some dam-fool reason, so the window of opportunity to study them should be exploited to the max.

While I don't know any specifics about Sony, I do know that a lot of well known companies do seem to have a rather lax attitude towards computer security. For what it is worth, I have a CISSP certification, for all the good it does me. Anybody out there hiring? I am posting to this website in the middle of a working day if that is any clue.

So they set it up, and they used it in Campaign 2012 to "humanize" distant and arrogant Mooch with voters, via touching story of FLOTUS helping an ordinary person and feeling good about doing so.
Then Mooch decided this year to recycle it as the ordinary person being instead a vicious racist wanting black women to perform menial chores. And Mooch then promptly got caught when the original video resurfaced. Not bright enough to lie well.

The email is from executive Michael Lynton, who suggests that in the
future, Sony shouldn't hire black actors like Denzel for leads in films.
The argument Lynton makes is that the rest of the world is "racist"
and they don't want to see black actors in lead roles, so every time
they cast someone like Denzel in The Equalizer, their foreign box office is going to sink. Thus, they shouldn't hire black actors for lead roles, obviously. About Denzel specifically, Lynton wrote:
"He's reliable at the domestic [box office], safe, but has not had a huge success in years. I believe whenever possible the non event pictures, extra 'bets' should have a large inherent upside and be made for the right price. Here there isn't a large inherent upside...believe that the international motion picture audience is racist - in general pictures with an African American lead don't play well overseas."

Irregardless of who's in the office an attempt on a President is a BIG deal and an Act Of War if attributable. Just trying it got onto the Adios Saddam Hussein list and whatever you think of that war it's cost a shitload more than some Osprey flights.

Every company and every government needs to be much more conscious of how vulnerable they are - as well as the public that gives them personal info they can't effectively protect. Data points are like watering holes to these guys. They're going to lurk where the food is. Big Data is premised on shaky foundations. Security, decentralization and separation/privacy should be considered before we rush to amalgamate ourselves in utopian singularity. The tech-Bulls have had their run - time for the Bears to get a fair hearing.

(this happened) Fly-by-night auction buyer puts vehicles on lot, from which they get "stolen" (speculation). Fly-by-night dealer makes insurance claim, several sea-cans of "stolen" vehicles make their way to ISIS. (further speculation) But I'll bet you that something close to that is how it went down.
