2 Good Morning Morons. Today is Wednesday, December 17, 2014. On this day in 1903 the Wright brothers made the first controlled powered, heavier-than-air flight in the Wright Flyer at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

3 We had a lot of discussion yesterday about 2016 and the potential candidates. Here is the latest Fox News poll and it illustrates why polls are worthless this early in a campaign. They reflect nothing more than name recognition.

8 That $1.1T budget package included provisions to block federal funding of police body cameras. Despite that the mayor of Los Angeles says they will equip their police with 7,000 body cameras. One wonders where they will get the money. I suspect they will channel money from other programs that are also getting federal aid, which will, in effect, violate the prohibition. All money is fungible which is why I am, and always have been, against federal handouts to cities and States.

President Obama has issued a form of executive action known as the presidential memorandum more often than any other president in history using it to take unilateral action even as he has signed fewer executive orders.

I have never been a big fan of EOs, and I don't like these even more. The press raised hell about Bush's use of Eos continuously. Where are they now? Pharaoh Obama, so let it be written, so let it be done.

Good. Perhaps if a 3rd Party is impracticable at this time, then it's time for the conservatives within the GOP to just segregate themselves and caucus together as its own entity.

Maybe it will do some good. Maybe minimally they can gum up the works and prevent the GOP from profiting off of the destruction of the country.

Good.

This is a plus for me, knock wood. I am so effin' sick of people hearing "Sprint Car" and answering "Sprint Cup." Yeah, hearing them refer to the machinery as "Nas Cars" also bothered me, but I'm almost over it.

88 Well I certainly came to the wrong place if I was looking for my day to get brighter. Vic, do you shower after you compile such a dreadful lineup of news each morning?

An aside on why my day needs brightening up. Got called out at 130 am for a death call. 59 yr old female with brain ca. Faithfully by her side for this whole ordeal was the family dog (german shepard) who is 17 yrs old. He's deaf and losing his hair and his legs are stiff as boards but somehow could manage to pull himself up by her on the bed. Well, I only met the man once as he co-officiated over my friend's wedding with his wife's dad, who was a Methodist minister.

But a girl I kew in high school once lived in Nawlins and here dad was a rabbi as well.

So, short answer is 2.

Ace... been thinking about your "12 Scalps" idea for punishing the GOP establishment for their treachery. Why not make it simpler? A concerted effort to change 2 house races next year is all it would take, without emperiling a dozen seats to the Democrats. Primary the f--k out of John Boehner and Kevin McCarthy. And if they still win, vote for the Democrat en masse.
Boehner is the real problem here. He wasn't worth a $#!+ during the Bush years, and he has been the worst possible choice to lead the opposition during the era of Obama.

117 Obama illustrates the problem with an entrenched bureaucracy that can not be fired. If someone disagrees with official policy, they can 'slow walk' the paperwork they control through the process.

Remember the national security leaks out of the intelligence community under Bush the Younger?

Any Federal bureaucrat can do what Obama is doing. Issue memoranda, hold onto papers for further study. Hold endless meetings; deflect, deflect, deflect.

They can also do what the EPA does; fabricate a study, issue a notice of a proposed rule making, dismiss the arguments against the new rule, issue the rule, and start taking business and people to court.

The fault, of course, is congress passing 'enabling legislation' that turns rulemaking over to the bureaucrat.

Bureaucracy, the tax code, and the legal system needs to be uprooted from time to time and simplified, just like Kudzu has to be cut back.

For those who don't know the story if Hanukkah, the Jews revolted against the Hellenic Syrians who occupied Israel and tried to force them to abandon their faith and assimilate. A group of Jews led by Judah Maccabee rebelled against them and ultimately liberated the Temple in Jerusalem. They defeated a force that would be the equivalent of the combined forces of the Americans, Russians and Chi-Coms.

After reconsecrating the Temple, they found that they only had enough oil to keep the Eternal Light burning for one day, but it lasted 8 days and nights until more oil was brought in.

Israel will not be defeated. Neither will we. America will have re-birth. I hope I see it in what's left of my lifetime and I can die at peace.

"Even as the first lady," she told the magazine, "during the wonderfully publicized trip I took to Target, not highly disguised, the only person who came up to me in the store was a woman who asked me to help her take something off a shelf."

She said the incidents are "the regular course of life" for African Americans and a "challenge" for the country to overcome."

Exactly. Give me an ever lovin' break. I have to wonder if this woman deeply, truly believes this, or was fabricating a story to advance an agenda of black "way of life" they have to suffer. Oprah felt the same way at the perceived slight she suffered from that shop girl a year or so ago.

Hello from Way Down Here, and it's Thursday, warm night, and a bloody huge cricket has found it's way inside and is serenading me...

Went into the city on Tuesday, and wandered over to Martin Place where that bastard Islamic terrorist destroyed two lives and violated this lovely city

It was quite overwhelming - a zillion bunches of flowers, and so many people just standing there

On my way back to the train station, I saw so many people holding flowers, and on their way to Martin Place

http://goo.gl/42j2eQ

Then yesterday we hear of 140 kids murdered in the name of Islam, in an Islamic country! Very hard to see the reasoning behind that massacre...

269 When our local CFA is mobbed at the drive thru, which happens a lot this time of year, they send employees out to take orders from cars that haven't made it to the speaker box yet, and then bring out the meals/accept payment if they're ready before you get to the window. That's good service.

This one time, (no, not at band camp), I was the 100th customer at breakfast, the lady rang a bell, announced I was the 100th customer that morning, and said my breakfast was on CFA.

Beaufort was 35 miles away, so a bit of a trip. On one occasion, he was kind enough to 'deliver' some clothes to me at a local grass strip, so I would not have to make the drive. The interesting thing about that was that the plane's battery died, and I had to fuss with the throttle, while he spun the prop by hand to crank the thing. I was probably 17 at the time.

Which raises the question:
As kids, did you get a separate party, or at least separate presents, for your birthday, or did your family roll it all up together on Christmas?

My parents were very careful to split it out, and when I was very young and didn't understand this whole 9 month gestation period thing, my mom even gave me a present for *her* birthday (in June) so I wasn't the only one who never got presents during the middle of the year.

That is an interesting idea. I was thinking more in terms of this attack meaning that the gloves would be coming off and that the Pakistani air force would be attacking known Taliban settlements without any concern for collateral damage. Hi there

Importing trouble... 9,000 Syrians (no Christians I expect)

Our bloke came here in 1996, after lying - apparently he'd defrauded his employer in Iran of thousands of dollars, so was on the run

Iran tried to get him back to face charges - and our Government at the time refused to send him back *he was apparently a poor repressed reffo*

427 The Wright Flyer's first flight was shorter than the wingspan of the Boeing 747.

But consider that flight and then barely 30 years later the first flight of the DC-3. Ten years after that, the first jets and by 1947 we broke the sound barrier. And so forth until space flight.

Wow.

431 Shalom and Happy Chanukah, J.J, nevergiveup and other members of the tribe. May you have a blessed celebration of lights, and may the Almighty keep you in His hand.

Happy birthday Fenelon, Allen and other December babies. I hope your day is special and wonderful, and that next year is better than this one has been.

As for Southern Rabbis, I grew up in Fort Worth with a number of Jewish friends who included me in all of their holy days. Hebrew with a Texas accent is something.

Apparently this fellow was able to get a firearms license despite his multiple convictions, indictments and over all bad behavior. That would suggest that unless your record is even worse (which I doubt) buying a gun should not be an insurmountable obstacle.

434 Speaking of oprah. I remember when she opened a restaurant in Chicago and said she did it so black people would have a nice restaurant to go to.

somehow I do not remember ever seeing a sign on a restaurant in Chicago with a sign that said no blacks allowed.

437 Hi, Aussie, on a cheerier note than today really warrants, I have a question for you. Is the Australian National Basketball League a big deal down there? I just learned that one of my favorite college ball players from last year ended up playing pro Down Under. Scotty Wilbekin. He's on the Cairns Taipans, are they any good?

Has anyone heard details about the fatal shots in Sydney, whether the lawyer lady caught a police bullet? I presume the manager caught it from the a--hole's shotgun. From the beginning, it was hard to imagine a bloodless outcome.

The one bright spot about Mitt Romney running yet another time would be the career ending sliming that would result for this fellow.

441 I'll just leave this here; 70 years ago right about this time, my dad was the last man out of Krinkelt, under Elsenborn Ridge on the north shoulder.

Coming in from sentry post (in an apple tree! Because LT said so!), he found his company had pulled out without him. 88's had zeroed on the church steeple as usual, so he was pinned down next to the graveyard wall for quite a while as pieces of gravestones (and the deceased) functioned as shrapnel.

Shell had hit the company kitchen where his berth was; had be been off-duty he'd have died with the rest of them. He walked to Elsenborn, about 3 miles but that's a long walk with VI Panzerarmee right behind you. And as he hiked he kept bumping into the artillery of the Indian Head 2nd, who nobody in hell knew had moved up. They were real quiet about it.

As he made the ridge, they all let loose at once and blew them all to hell. All these years, I've heard veterans of the 99th complain that they were out there as bait.

Thanks Jen, this is a new feeling here - we've made it into the real world at last it seems

Basketball down here is not as big as it should be

It's not on FTA telly, plus there has been quite a bit of upheavals over the years in the management of the league here

We used to be West Sydney Razorback members (club dissolved ages ago) and loved going to the games

It should be a lot bigger here but I think a lot of politics has got in the way..egos, money etc

We lost our team and stopped going to games
