Phone Numbers Provided by Jackie for Her Imaginary Boyfriend Were Created on Website That Enables Cellphone Spoofing

That is, it's actually a computer website that can pretend that it's sending texts from a cellphone of a number the user makes up and assigns to the spoof account.

This explains how the Mystery Man "Drew" sent texts to Jackie's friends, despite not actually existing:

Today the Washington Times adds significant new detail to the story. It turns out the cell numbers provided by Jackie, "are registered to Internet services that...can be used to redirect calls to different numbers or engage in spoofing." The site, known as Pinger, is an app that allows people to text for free but it can also be used to set up free texting accounts on the web. It's at least possible then that the accounts Jackie's friends were texting were not connected to a phone at all. Told about the source of the texts, one of Jackie's friends, Alex Stock, tells the Times, "That definitely raises some red flags."

This raises a possibility which I must stress is merely a possibility, a possible explanation for some contradictory claims.

I wouldn't offer this speculation, because I'll get killed by the SJWs, except that it's so obvious it's essentially right there on the surface.

Sabrina Rubin Erdely has claimed that she in fact contacted "Randall" (now identified as Ryan) but he said he would not comment on the story "out of loyalty to his frat."

Ryan, for his part, says he never spoke with Erdely, and that she never contacted him at all. He says he would have spoke to her if Erdely had asked.

So, given this business with the spoofed cell phone numbers: Is it possible that Sabrina Rubin Erdely was tricked into thinking she was texting with Ryan when in fact she was just communicating with spoofed accounts run by someone else?

I don't know. That scenario would permit both Ryan and Erdely to be telling the truth, as it appeared to them, and yet be in complete contradiction with one another. Ryan would say "Erdely never contacted me," and would be truthful, and Erdely would say "I contacted Ryan but he refused to be interviewed," and would not be lying, though she would be wrong.

Even if that were true, I don't know if that totally lets Erdely off the hook. I don't know if you just assume you've gotten through to an interview subject without any kind of actual confirmation of that.

Does Erdly specify the type of contact? Was it via text (in which the first italicized quote makes sense) or did she speak to "Randall", and therefore heard a voice?

If voice, then who was she really speaking to? Was it really "Randall", or someone impersonating "Randall"? This makes a difference.

Jackie isn't necessarily batshit crazy--she's just what a "normal" high school girl is these days.

A lot of them do this spoof crap--it's part of "cyberbullying" too.

She didn't want to go to stinky old UVa, she wanted to go to Brown and be Patch Adams (now she wants to be a social worker--and next week she's gooing to be a race car).

She wanted Randall to be her boyfriend, like, YESTERDAY!

So she did what little high school queens do. She created a drama they could all play on their "smart" phones.

And she played for three years, into an advocacy group, and on to Rolling Stone.

How was she still enrolled by then? Mind: Boggled.

Jay Guevara, it's a big thing in NoVA high school "culture"--I have two kids just safely out of it, boy and girl.

and both boys and girls do this crap. They are all plugged into gadgets 24-7. She could have been in the same room spoofing them, and no one would have known but her.

same possibility with SRE--she could have been right there with Jackie spoofing her. They spoof better when they're with the mark, because they can talk to them at the same time as themselves.

It's a creepy kid thing, and completely believeable to me as a mom re kids in their first few weeks of college.

But she had a story withdrawn from her college paper for fabricating it. Her first rape tale for Rolling Stone was withdrawn when the 'victim' recanted. Then she did another story about an American female soldier allegedly raped in Iraq which doesn't add up, either, although it has not been withdrawn or completely refuted - yet.

Plus, before the UVA story even came out, she was working on a screenplay of it for a movie proposal. She was looking to cash in big.

Rolling Stone editors claimed, when early questions on this story arose, that they had been in touch with the accused and that they did indeed exist - odd since Jackie gave completely different names to her friends on the night of September 28, to the U admins a year later, and to Erdely this year, and NONE of them are real people.

RS had to know about the fraud. They were part of it, and the editor in question was not fired or demoted.

That was my conjecture shortly after I read that all the friends said they hadn't heard from RS. If Jackie was tricking her friends with the Mystery Man, it wouldn't be much of a step to do the same when the reporter asked for contact info to follow up with her friends.

If she switched her major to sociology, it would be pretty easy. You don't have to be bright to get a degree in sociology. (It's what Michelle Obama majored in at Princeton, BTW). Lots of easy gut classes. Nothing like being a pre-med, which is what Jackie was supposed to be in her first year (when she was failing most of her classes).

Plus, do you really think the SJW's at UVA were going to expel a student who'd been a "victim" of a violent gang rape on campus? Not in a million years.

Jackie's imaginary rape solved a whole lot of problems for her. It gave her a new set of sympathetic friends, it gave her a free pass for failing her first-year classes, it gave her an excuse to change from a hard major to a gut major, it even got her on the cover of Rolling Stone . . . (okay, maybe that last one wasn't so great, but the others sure were).
