Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | How About a Non-Boomer Candidate for 2016?Look, the Boomers have run the country now since 1993, and, well, look at the place. It's a mess. Their fiscal wreckage is being left to Generation X and my own to clean up- generations they continue to leave the bill for while gorging themselves like so many Creosotes. Why give them another four years? Why not take a wafer-thin mint to the whole lot, at least this one time? I made this argument, not very seriously, on Twitter the other day, but it really got me thinking since. Who would both parties be left with as possible contenders in 2016 if we eliminated every candidate born after January 1 1965 and before the debut of MTV?Note: the exact starting point for Gen X isn't exactly agreed upon. I'm using The Harvard Center's defined period from 1965 to 1984. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Generation X will save the world. I truly believe that. Gen X does not have the votes to be selfish. Gen X will make the hard sacrifices that the Boomers did not. We have no choice. We can't save ourselves, we simply do not have the votes. Gen X will produce the leaders that will lead millenials. If it isn't this election, it will be within the next 8 years.

Posted by: T. Jeff. at December 16, 2014 05:21 PM (/Ho8c) ----- No, I don't think so. The reason is this. Gen X never truly experienced any of the negative experiences, such as Vietnam/Watergate. We did experience the positive and optimistic experience of Reagan and winning the Cold War. Therefore our experience of America from our youth, is in general a positive one. We know how great America can be. Our generation is the first to not really expect Social Security. Our generation for the most part paid for college and did not expect a collegiate handout. Finally, our generation cannot be selfish because we do not have the votes to screw over the generation ahead or behind us. We know we will have to make sacrafices. The next generation will force us to make them. But we can better force them to take the same punishment. If they don't have to support us, we can truly change the system. I really believe it will be Gen X that saves America. Patton and Marshall and his generation led the next one in battle. We will do the same. The millenials will get the credit just as the Greatest Generation gets their due credit. But the GG was led by exceptional leaders produced from the prior generation who saw America win a war. Gen X will produce the same. There may not be an actual war (then again maybe there will and maybe we are in it). But we will save the day. It does no good to try to divide people up into age blocks. "Boomers" is an artificial construct created by the lying jackasses in the MFM.
Keep in mind that it was largely these same "boomers" went off to Vietnam. The so-called hippy boomers really did not exist to any large extent. I even went down to the "famous" Haight-Ashbury cross-roads to see them. Nobody there but winos and bums pissing in the street. ---- That's a great point. That's why its likely that the batton will not be handed over in 2008. I think Obama soured many boomers on younger candidates. They will seize the batton back and let the grown-ups govern (their perspective). In 8 years, they will realize they are too old and need to pass the baton for real. They are not going to hand it to the oldest millenials. They will support Gen X knowing that Gen X will not screw them. Posted by: SH at December 16, 2014 05:35 PM (gmeXX) 130

Every political candidate a chance to appeal to boomers. etc etc. etc. If you really want to see the Tinkerbell phenomenon, you need to visit the Bay Area. Aging hippies with gray ponytails yearn to "recreate '68," as they put it, and bitch about today's music and the political commitment of today's youth. If they had lawns, they'd be yelling at people to stay off them. It's really creepy, a creepiness exacerbated by the fact that many/most of them don't have children. Some generations are marked out by history as living in interesting times, but that's not their doing - that's luck of the draw. "Shared youthful experiences" sounds like code for wishful thinking about how one generation differs fundamentally from others. They don't. People are people, with a bell curve representing every attribute imaginable, with history pushing some segments of the bell curve wrt some attribute to the fore. It's like for the last 50 years, no one else has voted on anything or anyone or been part of any government or made bad legislation or done any protests or made any slogans. Geezo people get over it and admit that you too are responsible for the mess we're in and even if it were true, blaming boomers for everything will not change what's going to happen no matter who's elected. Boomers were born between 1946 and 1964. The boom starts about a year after WWII ends. 46-64 is Census Bureau dates, but some cut it off 1960. Anyway, the point is that you could be born in 1949 and be a Baby Boomer.
