Where the Terrorism Comes From

A recent terrorism survey (Global Terrorism Index) found that five nations (Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria and Syria, in that order) accounted for 80 percent of all terrorism related deaths in 2013 and even more in 2014. Four Islamic terrorist organizations (ISIL, al Qaeda, Boko Haram and the Taliban) account for nearly 70 percent of all terrorist deaths. Many of the lesser terror groups are also Islamic. In fact, of the top ten nations by terrorist activity (Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria, Syria, India, Somalia, Yemen, Philippines and Thailand) only India and the Philippines had a significant minority of terrorist deaths that were not carried out by Moslems. In those two countries the minority terrorists were leftist rebels who had not noticed the collapse of radical socialism in 1989.

Harvard Law Review Editor on Exam Delay Request: Our Weakness is Our Strength

In which third year HLS student and Very Special Snowflake, William Desmond, explains how the exquisite moral sensitivity and general superiority of current HLS students means that it's simply impossible for them to take the exams on time. Warning: Take any prescribed blood pressure medication before reading Desmond's arrogant jackassery.

Speaking as one of those law students, I can say that this response is misguided: Our request for exam extensions is not being made from a position of weakness, but rather from one of strength and critical awareness.

Although over the last few weeks many law students have experienced moments of total despair, minutes of inconsolable tears and hours of utter confusion, many of these same students have also spent days in action-days of protesting, of organizing meetings, of drafting emails and letters, and of starting conversations long overdue. We have been synthesizing decades of police interactions, dissecting problems centuries old, and exposing the hypocrisy of silence.

...Our focus and critical thinking are at an all-time peak while the importance of our textbooks is at a low. It is not that law students are incapable of handling their exams. It is that we are unwilling to remove ourselves, even for a few days, from this national conversation..

Somehow I don't think this guy would put up with any of this I'm-too-special-for-exams BS.

UCLA Law Professor Learns Ferguson-Related Exam Question is Taboo

This seems like a perfectly legitimate question based on current events to me. And it doesn't even ask the students to pick a side but merely to discuss the issues involved. But apparently that's now 'racist'.

Professor Robert Goldstein said the exam question was designed to test students' ability to analyze the line between free speech and inciting violence. It cited a report about how Michael Brown's stepfather, Louis Head, shouted, "Burn this bitch down!" after a grand jury decided not to indict Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson in the death of Michael Brown.

The question then asked students to imagine that they are lawyers in the St. Louis County Attorney's office and had been asked to advise the prosecutor "whether to seek an indictment against Head" for inciting violence. The exam reads:

"[As] a recent hire in the office, you are asked to write a memo discussing the relevant First Amendment issues in such a prosecution. Write the memo."

But students complained, and writer Elie Mystal at the popular legal blog "Above the Law" opined that the test question was "racially insensitive and divisive." Mystal also incorrectly alleged that the question asked students to "advocate in favor of extremist racists in Ferguson."

But the precious little snowflakes were offended and so the professor had to apologize and abase himself.

Yay: Park Rangers to Now Lecture You on Global Warming

Ettling has spent his summers working as a park ranger at Crater Lake National Park in Oregon for nearly a decade. He is on a mission to teach visitors that man-made global warming is real. But climate change can be a touchy subject. So Ettling devised a strategy. When a park visitor casts doubt on global warming, he makes an appeal to their pocketbook.

"I try to shift the conversation away from polar bears and ice caps," Ettling says. "I tell people there are a lot of things they can do to save money on their electric bill that will also help the environment. Usually, I can get through to them that way."

Rolling Stone Reporter Apologizes to UVA Students, Promises to 'Re-Report' Rape Story

Note: Telling the truth is not an iterative process.

One of the friends, a 20-year-old, third-year student referred to as "Randall" in the Rolling Stone article but whose real name is Ryan Duffin, told the AP that not only did he encourage the alleged victim to go to police, but he started to dial 9-1-1 on his cellphone until she begged off saying she just wanted to go back to her dorm and go to sleep.

"I couldn't help but notice that everything that the article said about me was incorrect," Duffin said.

The AP also spoke with the other two friends portrayed in the article: third-year, 20-year-old U.Va. students Kathryn Hendley and Alex Stock, known as "Cindy" and "Andy" in the article. None of the three friends was contacted by Rolling Stone's reporter, Sabrina Rubin Erdely, before the article was published; each of them rejected multiple assertions made in the article, which has since been retracted.

All three say Erdely has since reached out to them, and that she has told them she is re-reporting the story. Hendley told the AP Erdely apologized to her for portraying her the way she did.

Undercover Cop Pulls Gun On Protesters After Attack in Oakland

But then angry mobs are very dangerous things.

That members of the protest were capable of violence is self-evident; after some in the crowd started screaming that the two men were undercover officers, the officers identified themselves as police and the taller officer deployed an ASP baton (but did not use it) as the crowd advanced upon them.

One protester them bum-rushed the shorter officer in the green and yellow hat, allegedly punching him in the face and tackling him. That officer then body-slammed his attacker to the ground, and as the crowd surged forward, the officer in the brown jacket pulled his gun to defend himself and his partner against a hostile crowd of up to 50 that was gathering around them, threatening to swarm.

Wahlberg Beating Victim: 'I Was Not Blinded by Mark Wahlberg'

It turns out that the man Mark Wahlberg beat, Johnny Trinh, had already lost his eye while fighting in the South Vietnamese Army. He also thinks Walberg should be pardoned. On the other hand how do we know this 'Johnny Trinh' isn't just some random Asian guy that Wahlberg hired to forgive him.

Eh - this does lower the severity of Wahlberg's crime but I'd like to see how many non-celebrity types get pardoned (and regain their gun rights) after youthful felonies before extending this to Marky-Mark.

90 Our focus and critical thinking are at an all-time peak while the importance of our textbooks is at a low. It is not that law students are incapable of handling their exams. It is that we are unwilling to remove ourselves, even for a few days, from this national conversation..

Why not devote yourselves to the national conversation full time, and drop out of law school?

Or is that exquisite moral sensitivity and general superiority of lawyers too great to permit that?

Shithead.

The friends say among their concerns is the fact that the woman, named only as "Jackie"in the article, gave them a cellphone number so they could text a man she said she was seeing around the time she alleged she was gang-raped at a fraternity house.

Eventually, the friends ended up with three numbers for the man. All are registered to Internet services that enable people to text without cellphone numbers but also can be used to redirect calls to different numbers or engage in spoofing, according to multiple research databases checked by The Washington Times.

Frankly, I regard it as a PIA, as I have to fuss with cleaning/filling the single serving strainers with regular ground coffee.

If I did not do that, I would be offended by the cost of packaged single-serve containers. The upside is that the coffee (just ordinary Folgers) is both better and cheaper than instant. I normally pack one of the strainers full, then brew it into a 20oz. styrofoam cup. Makes for about 2 1/2 mugs of good stuff.

And it's a good rant. If you believe western movies, it didn't used to be that way. I see no reason why someone should lose their 2nd Amendment rights over a felony conviction, once they have fully paid their debt to society.

This is also why I have no objection to felons being able to vote after their debt is paid; some states do allow it while yet others allow voting even while under sentence.

You can run for public office after a felony conviction, but you can't vote? Puhleeze.

The single cup maker is the shit. I have a B&D one that I used for years. I get a few years out of it and usually keep a backup. It came with a travel mug, but I never use it. The tall cups I have fit great under it and it makes a 16oz cup. No filter needed. In reality I probably have 6 different ways to make coffee, and I use them all.

230 The best coffee you will ever have-cowboy coffee.

Grind the beans in an old hand grinder that has never been cleaned. Boil the water in a saucepan. Dump in the grounds and stir like hell until it quits rising up. Take off the burner and let it set for about two minutes. Then, pour off the top without disturbing the grounds which have settled to the bottom.

Cut with a knife and eat in chunks.

By far, the best, no filter taste, no nonsense and nearly solid. Yum.

235 Grind the beans in an old hand grinder that has never been cleaned. Boil the water in a saucepan. Dump in the grounds and stir like hell until it quits rising up. Take off the burner and let it set for about two minutes. Then, pour off the top without disturbing the grounds which have settled to the bottom.

eman, there is a bit of science behind coffee maker design. Maximum caffeine extraction (95%) from the grounds occurs at 205 F while minimizing bitter flavinoids.

btw, this is why you don't save money by running water thru the grounds twice; at least if your main goal is obtaining caffeine.

That reminds me of something that really irks me.

I paid a bill over the phone today, then called in to the water company to give them my confirmation# (yeah, I don't trust the). After about 30 minutes, it went like this:

"Yes ma'am, I just paid my bill using your automated phone system. I'd like to give you my confirmation#."

"Ok. Go ahead."

"123456 Bravo."

"Did you say Bravo? What do was that mean?"

"It means B. As in Bravo."

"Why didn't you say B, then?"

"Did you say D or B. Or was it V? I said Bravo so you knew I was giving you the letter B."

It went on for another few minutes (yes, i CAN be a troublemaker). Is it too much trouble to ask that someone charged with dealing with the public, taking numbers & letters over the phone, be even remotely familiar with the phonetic alphabet?
And we're talking about the water company that serves the city that hosts the LARGEST MILITARY INSTALLATION IN THE WORLD.

I went by the VA last week, to get into the system. (I was in '82-'86).

The form (VA 10-10EZ, July 2013) asks if I'm applying to meet the standards for ObamaCare, and wants my current healthcare insurer and my income.

It looks like this is a big change from previous requirements.

I don't need the benefits, or the exposure to The System, but I don't want to miss out. OTOH, maybe passing, and waiting to see if ObamaCare gets overturned is a better plan.

Community Coffee dark roast is pretty much THE standard coffee served on oil rigs in the Gulf.

310 I buy and grind my own beans, but out of all the canned coffees I have ever brewed, Chock Full o'Nuts was the best. Haven't seen it available locally for years, however.

yeah I have 2 grinders, mostly because the wife likes to grind that hazelnut (gag) coffee sometimes, and it gives my grinder the cooties. I made her get one just for that. I didn't like the regular chock-full-o-nuts stuff, but that 100% Columbian stuff they make is great.

338 Funniest coffee story I can think of-

I went to the Sturgis rally 10 years in a row, and I noticed that as you get out west the coffee gets weaker and weaker. By the time you get to S Dakota where the rally is the coffee is so weak you can see the bottom of the cup, almost tea like.

We were in a local bar one night by our hotel, and this big rancher dude with the big white cowboy hat was taking to us. My brother says to the guy, "wtf is with your coffee here, its weak, better yet, HOW much coffee do you use to a 10 cup pot?"

The dude says in this big baritone rancher voice "well, *I* use, for a 10 cup pot (sounding proud) scoop and a half, unless its a hangover morning then maybe a scoop and 3/4".

Our mouths hung open, it all became clear. My brother says well we use probably depending on the size of the scoop at least 5. The dude says "woah, you guys like strong coffee".

I said well this is why you people are so mellow out here, if you drank our coffee they would find in Mongolia with that john deer of yours.

Wouldn't you know, the next morning this dude shows up at our hotel with a pot of east coast style strong coffee. You gotta love the people out there.

I offer elevating levels of "heat" whenever I make stuff for a party. The best heat is that stuff that hits you when you stop eating it!

It seems that you like coffee. As do I (2 pots a day got me through grad school back in the early 80's, and I've never looked back).

As St. Alton of Brown has taught us, however, the less grounds you use, the more likely it is that your coffee will be over-extracted and therefore both weak and bitter. Ugh.

And the sad part is that a lot of people, not knowing this, cut back on the grounds thinking it will make a smoother cup of coffee, when in fact exactly the opposite is the case.

Over the last ten years (again thanks to AB) I have gotten into the habit of throwing a pinch of salt on top of the grounds before brewing. Seems to help. This is the same effect that used to be created by adding eggshells, but I can't figure out a way to do that without risking Salmonella, unless you own a diner and use 72 eggs a day.

It really was a great experience. Minus the 95+ degrees and 100 percent humidity (I was there in July & August - my jeans were soaked through with sweat by 10 AM).

Great food, lovely people, a whole lot of pride down there - misplaced, sure, but all-in-all, a grand time. Oh, and my first & only Pro Football game. Saw the first game played in the Dome after it reopened.

I'll be taking-up welding.

If I may play too, I have a Welding Final (written) on Wednesday night. FWIW, I recommend Welding; learn as much as you can. Same for Machining, both manual and CNC (MasterCAM, NX, etc.). Once you're good AND you've put in enough time (while being good) there is apparently a lot of money to be made. I heard (in '10 or '11) that 5-axis machinists were making $65.00/hr in the Dakotas. Note that 5-axis machinists usually have at least 10 years of CNC experience before being allowed to program 5-axis mills. Apparently, companies are crying for welders too.

Once you've put in the time, opening a business is a realistic option. Be aware though, that depending on location (mostly region) machine shops go out of business frequently. I cannot recall seeing a "welding" business in a very long time; it's almost always "Welding and ____" or "____ and Welding". Getting the "____" seems really necessary.

385 Guy Who Made A Living Excusing Black Criminality Just Got Murdered By Two Black Oakland Males

Maetenloch failed to mention that a very similar incident happened DURING the Oakland protests last week:

A white guy, super into "social justice" and who blamed "white privilege" as the cause of black misbehavior, saw that some of the (black) Oakland protesters had started a fire in a dumpster. So he started plucking the burning stuff from the dumpster and stomping it out, saying "This isn't helpful for our cause! We need to be peaceful!"

Result? Surrounded by angry black protesters calling him "cracker" and "honkey" and taunting him and telling him not to boss them around. And then, based on no evidence whatsoever, one of the black protesters accused the white peacenik of being "the po-lice," and in a flash they all descended on him and beat the living shit out of him.

Later, after the first of many upcoming dental surgeries to reconstruct his mouth after his two front teeth were knocked out and the surrounding bone fractured, he was interviewed by a reporter, and... (can you guess?)...DIDN'T BLAME HIS ATTACKERS and continued his anti-police and anti-white tirade.

Insanity, thy name is liberalism.

I could find a link if you're interested. There is also apparently a video of the racial taunting prior to the beating.

391 'Night, Slap. I this now I'm out, too.

Zombie, is that the same guy that got whacked with the hammer? Or just another "lucky" dude?

Or more likely - I saw a video a couple days ago of a guy getting screamed at to "go the F home!" because he was pleading with looters / rioters that they weren't helping the cause. His teeth had been knocked out - maybe it was him?

ColdBeer1 (Slap) (T) :

When they ask me to join the Union ..

My experience with unions is very limited, and mostly from long ago in Warren, MI.

In listening to several guys who are in or trying to get in to a union, you have to ask, and maybe ...

If they ask, like at a steel mill, or dockyard, or other "union-type" place, then act very uninformed, make no commitments, sound favorable to their offer, and once they've gone, find out the situation. You will then know whether to say "Yes" or "Sure, I'll vote for you".

I mention the business aspect, because most guys eventually want their own business, and welding, by itself, seems to not be a good plan. Welding AND "____" seems to work very much better.

393 Ooooh, here's an article (incomplete, but with plenty of specifics):

http://tinyurl.com/ksj75nw

A snippet:

"...A masked demonstrator approached Wear and yelled, “You wanna be po-lice?”

And with that turn of the phrase, Wear had become an enemy, a target.
He was surrounded and three masked men beat him from all sides.
Wear’s eyeglasses flung off into the large trash bin.

When the beating stopped, blood was gushing from Wear’s mouth.
“My two top teeth are pretty much gone, my ear was cut and my scalp is bruised,” Wear said the next day. “I was just pleading with them to allow me to find my glasses.”

Wear spent much of the day Thursday undergoing painful dental procedures. He said he was in pain. But his top concern was this: He believes peaceful and powerful demonstrations can still be achieved — and must be achieved.
The message is too important to allow bullies to dilute it with violence and stupidity.

“In the Bay Area, we have a corps of bullies who are running the show at these demonstrations,” Wear said. “They’re not necessarily provocateurs, but people with their own vision of change — and it includes violent confrontation.

“It was not an impassioned bunch,” he added. “These men wanted to maliciously show me who was boss, at least that’s the way it was articulated to me.”

Bruised, but unbowed, Wear said he will march again, but not alone.
I’m astounded by Wear’s ability to turn the other cheek, but even he recognizes the difference between peaceful protest and what’s playing out in our cities. He’s the second protester in Berkeley this week assaulted by violent groups for trying to promote peace. The first guy got hit with a hammer.

Wear has a message for the people who come out night after night to create problems within a peaceful crowd: “If you have so little fire in your heart for this movement that you have to light one, you’re the one who needs to get off the street.”"

430 Hello Web Admin, I noticed that your On-Page SEO is is missing a few factors, for one you do not use all three H tags in your post, also I notice that you are not using bold or italics properly in your SEO optimization. On-Page SEO means more now than ever since the new Google update: Panda. No longer are backlinks and simply pinging or sending out a RSS feed the key to getting Google PageRank or Alexa Rankings, You now NEED On-Page SEO. So what is good On-Page SEO?First your keyword must appear in the title. Then it must appear in the URL.You have to optimize your keyword and make sure that it has a nice keyword density of 3-5% in your article with relevant LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing). Then you should spread all H1,H2,H3 tags in your article.Your Keyword should appear in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page. You should have relevant usage of Bold and italics of your keyword. There should be one internal link to a page on your blog and you should have one image with an alt tag that has your keyword....wait there's even more Now what if i told you there was a simple Wordpress plugin that does all the On-Page SEO, and automatically for you? That's right AUTOMATICALLY, just watch this 4minute video for more information at. Seo Plugin
