No Surprise: Men, Women Disagree on the Ideal Female Figure

As far as the ideal male figure, there wasn't really that much divergence: Men said Hugh Jackman had the ideal male body, whereas women said Ryan Gosling did.

Well, you know, they're both muscular. Not as much of a difference as the Daily Mail is making.

But as to the ideal female body: Women thought that a thin, tall, athletic frame like Cameron Diaz' was the ideal.

And men?

Well, men know better. They chose Kate Upton.

I think this is sort of revealing, psychologically, about the respective sexes' attitudes towards sex. I think a body like Kate Upton's is taken, by women, to demonstrate a lack of intelligence and sophistication. It's taken as tacky and, well, whorish.

Cameron Diaz' body, on the other hand, is attractive without pandering to gutter-level male tastes, and is therefore sexy without being stupid and oafish.

I don't know what this means except I'm tired of being blamed for the "impossible standards of beauty" shown in fashion magazines given that the rail-thin models are all selected by women, not men, as the female sexual ideal.

For their own sex they prefer the body which can be achieved through work by almost anybody. Diet, work out, you can have a body like Diaz or Jackman. Yeah it's very hard and most never do, but it's doable.

Whereas for the opposite sex they chose the body you have to be born with, mostly. Women can work out till they are blue in the face, even get implants, but they will never get that certain distrubutin of body fat to just the right, and only those, areas. Gosling on the other hand just looks like a naturally thin guy. Not skinny, thin. Sure he can work out to make it look better but he isn't going to pack on pounds the minute he stops. Jackman is probably the same but he always works out so his body seems more manufactured.

Look back no further than the bustle, designed to make women look curvy. Or the corset, the stomacher, the hoop skirt, the girdle, the padded bra, you name it. The woman's ideal in WWII was the same as a man's - Rita Hayworth, Ginger Rogers, Gene Tierney - alldressed to accentuate the tiny waist and the curves.The "hourglass" has / was both the men's and women's idealfrom Elizabethan England through the early 1960's (Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell, even Grace Kelly had the tiny waist)

The difference today is women show a lot more skinon a regular basis thanat any time since the caveman era.
