Alleged ISIS Weapons Maker: We've Now Smuggled That Dirty Bomb Into Europe
"A Radioactive Device has entered somewhere in Europe," according Twitter user Muslim-Al-Britani, who claims to be a freelance jihadist weapons maker now working alongside IS (also known as ISIL or ISIS), according to tweets captured and disseminated by SITE.
The claim by Al-Britani comes just days after reports emerged that IS could have in its possession a dirty bomb, the elements of which were obtained via earlier IS raids on a university research facility in Mosul that contained uranium. Al-Britani is also responsible for the flurry of reports on the dirty bomb. Al-Britani, who has disseminated on his Twitter feed "weapon instructions and manuals," claimed on Nov. 23 that the "Islamic State does have a dirty bomb. We found some radioactive material from Mosul university," according to the tweets reproduced by SITE. ... Iraq reportedly informed the United Nations in July that terrorists had seized nuclear materials being housed at Mosul University. Some 90 pounds of uranium were said to have been stolen, according to reports.

Correct, but you also have to realize that for the largest portion of the population, uranium = radiation = BAD! Even just detonating that device in a major metropolitan area would create a huge amount of panic. Chances are that more people would be killed in the explosion than would die of "radiation" poisoning, but the reaction would be devastating.

It's tough...obviously you want to be safe, but I also cringe at the though of letting bullies dictate how I live my life. I visited Egypt pre green revolution, so glad I did; not the hotbed it is today and still were worried for our safety, but was so worth it. When Beck and Hannity both did big trips to Israel I thought they were nuts; didn't they know the risks? But they both came back the US just fine.
Of course they can also buy the best protection money can buy, that helps quite a bit...

If they used a radiation weapon inside Russia, I agree that Putin might go nuclear but bombing IS into oblivion with aging supplies of Cold War era conventional weapons and obsolete bombers would make Putin popular in Europe, raising his status while lowering the status of the US which did nothing. Also, by blowing up all the oil facilities in the area Putin would reduce the world oil supply by some amount and the increased price of oil would probably pay for the cost of the bombing mission.

Natural uranium is very mildly radioactive. You could stand next to truly vast quantities of it and not be exposed to dangerous levels of radiation.
Marie Curie processed, basically by hand, tons of uranium ore to get her pure radium and polonium. And yes, she most certainly died of cancer because of her work - but she did this work in her thirties and lived into her early sixties.
(The cancer wouldn't have been caused by radiation from uranium, but from those much more radioactive trace decay products she was getting up close and personal with, all those years.)
A dirty bomb made by scattering a *highly* radioactive source with conventional explosives would probably kill very few people through radiological effects: Most people would be killed through conventional blast effects, shrapnel, etc.
A dirty bomb made with one of the least radioactive common emitters is especially useless - except, as others point out, psychologically!

I'd love to see some 45 degree days. We're *supposed* to have moderating temps 'cause the Gulf Stream is so close. Yeah, not happening. Wife -- who is under big time med watch -- can't get Vit D levels anywhere near norm -- no shit sherlock. Week after week, month after month, little or no sunshine.

Something I always found amusing -- and I'm easily amused - is how the lefties never attacked Sarah Palin for having and using a 'tanning bed/Vitamin D insertion device'.
Somebody called the wolves off on that 'story' and I'd love to know who it was. Someone who knew with such little sunshine hitting AK -- almost all year -- she needed supplementing.
I know when my Vitamin D levels are low without a couple hundred dollar blood test. Simple -- I feel like shit. Right now I feel like shit. Almost two months of well below temps with little sunshine.
