The credit-rating industry has come under greater scrutiny since it was
blamed for fueling the 2008 financial crisis by giving top ratings to bonds that later soured. If the SEC suspends part of SP's business, it would be the first such action against a major credit-rating firm. Liberals have always blamed everyybody for the 2008 collapse except the true culprits; themselves and their damn fixation on bad loans to poor people who could not afford them. And the SEC is just as culpable as SnP's. If I was the head of SnP's I would sue and drag it all out in court. Radiation hormesis (also called radiation homeostasis) is the hypothesis that low doses of ionizing radiation (within the region of and just above natural background levels) are beneficial, stimulating the activation of repair mechanisms that protect against disease, that are not activated in absence of ionizing radiation. The reserve repair mechanisms are hypothesized to be sufficiently effective when stimulated as to not only cancel the detrimental effects of ionizing radiation but also inhibit disease not related to radiation exposure (see hormesis).[1][2][3][4] This counter-intuitive hypothesis has captured the attention of scientists and public alike in recent years.[5]

Again, what ISIS grabbed in Mosul was a bunch of natural uranium. Unless they have a reactor somewhere to irradiate it, it is perfectly useless as a dirty bomb. -------- Correct, but you also have to realize that for the largest portion of the population, uranium = radiation = BAD! Even just detonating that device in a major metropolitan area would create a huge amount of panic. Chances are that more people would be killed in the explosion than would die of "radiation" poisoning, but the reaction would be devastating. Now we have Choom Boy, whose sympathies lie more with the terrorists than with American citizens (or Europeans, for that matter). As long as ISIS doesn't pop a nuke in Scotland -- thereby wiping out a ton of good golf courses President Historic First© hasn't played yet -- they've got a damn good chance of walking away from a "nuclear incident" with nothing more than a faux fierce scolding from D.C. This made them all look like idiots right before the election. Though several months afterwards, I saw some stuff that suggested it was, in fact, the opposition party that immediately went charging off the wrong way. Luckily, the leak was obvious due to the chemical's pungent odor, and attendees were evacuated from the Chicago-area Hyatt about 30 minutes after the leak was detected shortly after midnight. "'None'? ...They stole the wrong kind? "Sorry, I am kind of stupid about this." Don't be sorry! Someone must have answered you but since I'm not seeing it: Natural uranium is very mildly radioactive. You could stand next to truly vast quantities of it and not be exposed to dangerous levels of radiation. Marie Curie processed, basically by hand, tons of uranium ore to get her pure radium and polonium. And yes, she most certainly died of cancer because of her work - but she did this work in her thirties and lived into her early sixties. (The cancer wouldn't have been caused by radiation from uranium, but from those much more radioactive trace decay products she was getting up close and personal with, all those years.) A dirty bomb made by scattering a *highly* radioactive source with conventional explosives would probably kill very few people through radiological effects: Most people would be killed through conventional blast effects, shrapnel, etc. A dirty bomb made with one of the least radioactive common emitters is especially useless - except, as others point out, psychologically! Idiot that I am I thought Feinstein was actually a decent enough Democrat when it came to national security. She doesn't give a fuck about our morals and values when it comes to the US government asking its citizens the content of their prayers or lying to us while taking over our health care system or when Obama authorizes missions into sovereign countries or blows up people with drones.

Baldy, #427:
"Considering how dense radioactive elements are, wouldn't 90 lbs fit in a Tic Tac box?" 90 pounds of uranium metal is a little over two liters. Converting back to imperial, a ball a little over six inches in diameter. (Uranium dioxide and related compounds, which are more likely forms than a metal ball, are dense but not nearly that dense.) Something I always found amusing -- and I'm easily amused - is how the lefties never attacked Sarah Palin for having and using a 'tanning bed/Vitamin D insertion device'. Somebody called the wolves off on that 'story' and I'd love to know who it was. Someone who knew with such little sunshine hitting AK -- almost all year -- she needed supplementing. I know when my Vitamin D levels are low without a couple hundred dollar blood test. Simple -- I feel like shit. Right now I feel like shit. Almost two months of well below temps with little sunshine.
