Overnight Open Thread (12-2-2014)

Quote of the Day

"Our cause is never more in danger than when a human, no longer desiring, but still intending, to do our Enemy's will, looks round upon a universe from which every trace of Him seems to have vanished, and asks why he has been forsaken, and still obeys."

-- Screwtape to Wormwood in The Screwtape Letters

Hey Did  You Know That the Co-Founder of the Gay Activist Human Rights Campaign Was Arrested Last Month For Raping a 15 Year Old Boy?

Of course not - the media is too busy obtaining the library records of Elizabeth Lauten. Because like the firemen in Fahrenheit 451 the media's real job these days is the suppression of undesired information.

Terrence Bean [the] 66-year old co-founder of the radical homosexual outfit known as the Human Rights Campaign (HRC)-a misnomer if ever there was one-was arrested in late November on charges that he and his ex-boyfriend raped a fifteen year old boy in a hotel room in Eugene, Oregon.

And the HRC has a lot of fascistic thuggery to answer for:

The organization Mr. Bean founded is the largest "gay" "rights" pressure group in the United States. Its logo-a yellow equals sign on a blue background-is rapidly becoming the internationally recognized symbol of a political movement. In Massachusetts, where I hail from, the symbol is ubiquitous on car bumpers.

The HRC is the homofascist mothership and Bean is its queen. The organization published the illegally obtained donor list of the National Organization for Marriage in order to harass and intimidate its opponents. Its efforts also brought about the downfall of Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich who made the mistake of making a small donation to supporters of California's Proposition 8. The HRC supports forcing private citizens to participate in homosexual weddings. As long as anyone anywhere still maintains the rights of free speech and free exercise of religion, the HRC will not rest.

And in case you were wondering this is what happens when someone in the media does attempt to commit journalism.

Student Fakes a Rape Threat to Advance Diversity Initiatives

A federal investigation revealed that a racist rape threat against a University of Chicago student activist was actually fake, written by the student's friend to gain support for their cultural-sensitivity initiatives.
Freshman Derek Caquelin posted a threat against junior Vincente Perez on his own Facebook wall on November 18 - and then claimed a racist hacker must have done it.

This is why I now simply assume all campus racial incidents are hoaxes until proven otherwise. But now the activist-hoaxers are upping the ante.

Yeah, I have serious doubts about the "allegory" business. Sounds rather Lucasy of Cameron. He had obviously borrowed some bits and pieces from the era, but a whole cloth allegory? Cameron is a big borrower/ripper. I figure at that point he was simply trying to make a kickass Alien war movie, no more no less and the whole "allegory" thing is a justification to his peers for making a kickass Alien war movie. The allegory falls apart as a vietnam war leftist trope with Aliens on a number of levels.

Pitt was born in Oklahoma and raised in Missouri. I always get the feeling with him that there is a core of red state common sense there which has been smothered by Hollywood PC, but it occasionally breaks through and asserts itself.

No idea what you're talking about, but what little I saw of D-Lamp's take on homosexuality was spot on. Homosexuals (male) ARE a reservoir of STDs, and are into pederasty, a taste sufficiently ubiquitous to warrant a word of its own. A case in point: Terrence Bean. That was my point.

Word.

In the epilogue of one of his books, WEB Griffin talks about a guy he knew who escaped from the Jap occupation of the Philippines. He and a bunch of other American servicemen crossed the S China Sea in a tiny little sailboat, William Bligh-style, landing in French Indochina. He and his men lined themselves up and marched to the local French authorities, and reported with full military bearing. The Vichy-allied Frogs running things in the area took their salutes, complimented them on their heroic journey......and immediately turned them over to the Japs who were occupying Indochina. He survived the war as a POW, enduring a thoroughly horrifying captivity of torture and abuse.

To the end of his days, Griffin's friend hated all things French, even worse than the Japs.

Wiki summary good enough for me:

The history of Monopoly can be traced back to 1903,[2] when an American woman named Elizabeth (Lizzie) J. Magie Phillips created a game through which she hoped to be able to explain the single tax theory of Henry George (it was intended as an educational tool to illustrate the negative aspects of concentrating land in private monopolies).

"Each player gets six cards, except for the player on the dealer's right, who gets seven.
The second card is turned up, except on Tuesdays.
Two jacks are a "half-fizzbin".
If you have a half-fizzbin:
a third jack is a "shralk" and results in disqualification;
one wants a king and a deuce, except at night, when one wants a queen and a four;
if a king had been dealt, the player would get another card, except when it is dark, in which case he'd have to give it back.
The top hand is a "royal fizzbin", but the odds against getting one are said to be "astronomical"."

443 I see no signs of hope in our society.

At this point, it's not a matter of if we hit bottom, it's when.

Who's gonna save us? Jeb? The GOP? Ha ha.

Our citizenry is too lazy and too greedy and too distracted to give a crap.

People will kill each other on Black Friday but can't be bothered to do anything else.

In NJ, a few LIV football fans (but I repeat myself) took out a billboard to say that the Jets coach should be fired.

I find it funny that people will pay for a sign over a football coach, but where are the signs that say fire this politician or that politician?

Politicians, whether we want to admit it or not, can affect our lives. Football is just a game, played a significant part these days by criminals, no matter how much the LIVs try to act like it's important.

All you have to do is give someone some government cheese whether directly or indirectly and they will become reliable big gov't voters or willfully blind voters.

These are the days Franklin and Jefferson warned us about, yet we have people literally crying over the new craptastic Star Wars trailer.

I am crying over the Republic, freedom, and what Reagan knew to be the last best hope of humanity on this planet.

Priorities, we don't have them.

I don't think they market themselves as 'Christian Rock', but most of their songs have a pretty clear religious tone to the lyrics. I actually never knew then heard them on Howard Stern a few years back. All the band members made it pretty clear that Christianity is a big part of who they are as individuals and as a band.

Honestly, though, I'm not sure I like the idea of separating off into our own genre. I think it's better to have bands like Collective Soul who don't market themselves as Safe Rock For Christians. They are Christians and they play rock. Their religion, like most aspects of an artist's life and worldview will come through, but it doesn't need to relegate it to its own box.

I see the problem. See, "rock" is a musical style with a blues-based chord progression and a backbeat.

What you have it confused with is "Being A Young Dolt", which is usually when you first enjoy listening to a lot of new music.

And dolts prefer anger and rebellion because they are stupid nincompoops who don't know jack.

Rock is just a music style. Anger is just lack of control.

Leftists are always angry because the world requires truth and hard choices. So they write youthful, rebellious, stupid tantrum-throwing songs about being dolts with no self control - and since dillweeds are also selling this crap to kids, they never grow up either. SO they're lame, rebellious, infantile posers themselves.

And so on, and so on... as the song goes.

I suspect that it's not because he was wrong, he was usually on the correctish side of issues. He was......intense I think is the best way to put it. Everything was life threateningly important, right now, and he was determined to make sure you knew that. Again. Again. And again.

Look, I think that the media is one of the biggest threats to this country. I agree that they are as responsible as any of the, if not more responsible than most, critical theory outlets for where we find ourself. That doesn't mean I need a 500 word diatribe on how the media is responsible for the dearth of homemade mashed potatoes i just posted about in a Thanksgiving thread.

OCD, aspbergers or just passionate about politics and culture? I dunno. I can't even say that there aren't times when I don't feel exactly the same as D-Lamp. I just can't keep it up 24/7 or I'd go insane. Or climb a bell tower with a rifle.

545 All genres can have rebellious songs. Some genres definitely tilt more that way by design. Punk was pretty much rebellion at it's core. There IS the total hipster douchebag rebellion songs, but that type of rebellion is from a whole different place as other genre's "rebellion". Its a more frigging whiny, entitled, self important style of douchebaggery.

549 Again. Again. And again.

Mostly this. He was usually in broadcast mode rather than commenting mode.

550 I don't agree with any of that Cochran. But.

From a strictly means and ends perspective, and if one honestly believes Armageddon is imminent and unavoidable without drastic and immediate change, can you think of a better way to "save the country"?

It's not unique to D-Lamp, it's a universal human failing. How many times in history has that "final solution" been proposed?

D-Lamp just rants about it. Leftists try to implement it.

551 Today, I discovered something to love about the week after a major holiday.

It's easy for even a romantically inept clod like me to find out subtly if an intriguing acquaintance of the opposite sex is single at times like this. "So, did you have a nice Thanksgiving? Cool; who'd you spend it with? Friends, family, ... ?"

If she has a husband/boyfriend, at this point she'll mention him, or at least use the pronoun "we" instead of "I".

I found out one woman to whom I'm attracted spent Thanksgiving alone, and another one spent it with just her sister, her only local relative.

Well! One of these days, I'll have to force myself to ask one or the other of them out. I'll totally get on that... later.

Couple of years ago, there was a "solidarity" thing, a plea that went out to conservative bloggers...to all post something about a person who had been targeting some other conservative bloggers.

Ace lent his rapier wit to it and posted a few threads.
He was sued, along with some of the others, for posting about this guy.

We refer to him as HeWhoShallNotBeNamed.

Posted by: wheatie at December 03, 2014 12:24 AM (YKQrT)

610 As for D-Lamp, the only thing I'll say is that the guy really went over the top on the Robin Williams thread, saying that because Williams voted for Obama he was responsible for ISIS atrocities and therefore his death was to be celebrated.

I figured that the guy genuinely has a screw loose and was not somebody who was a joy to be around either here or in person. I never responded to his comments after that because when someone is that manic the debate only flows one way

I have a hunch there are other issues in his life that anger him, I hope he gets them fixed in a way that we don't hear about on the news

Posted by: kbdabear at December 03, 2014 12:26 AM (GrXXa)

611 And let me ask you a question. Just what do you think the whole SMOD meme is about anyway? Sure, it's kidding. Um, no. No. That's not what SMOD is. SMOD is a semi satirical response to all the bad and nastiness that's in the world. It's a total wipeout. The end of everything.

I'll even go one further. When the Tsarnaev brothers were on the run, and it was shown that the car they carjacked had a "coexist" bumper sticker on it, I DID say "How do you like your whole philosophy now, huh? Why didn't you just coexist with those terrorists?", and I know I wasn't alone.

Posted by: Weirddave at December 03, 2014 12:20 AM (KAmzK)

Ok. How does that have anything to do with what we're talking about?

You're talking about people being responsible, all the way out, for the actions they take. That's more straight humor than anything. Their proclivities came back and grabbed them in a literal way. Sort of like the lead protestor getting her car jacked out in Ferguson.

623 I've been watching with some interest, the ongoing saga about Michael Brown's stepfather...who said:
"Burn this bitch down!"

After he said that, the fires of Ferguson began to blaze.

Some are calling for him to be held accountable for "inciting the mob".
Others are saying that it's 'perfectly okay' for him to have said that.

I used to cringe whenever I saw the..."Burn it down/Scatter the stones/Salt the earth where it stood" thing posted in nearly every thread.
It gave me an uneasy feeling, seeing that over and over.

Things that D-Lamp posted made me cringe as well.

But the "Burn it down" stuff went on for a long time, and I don't think anyone was banhammered for it.

Posted by: Carol at December 03, 2014 12:40 AM (sj3Ax)

632 Maet, and others, dig into your memories for the very different America that existed just a few years ago (in political terms). The Fergidishu riots and nonsense, the looted convenience store owner who was victimized by the late unlamented Brown, the churlish Christmas tree ceremony thing, blocking the 14th Street bridge - and on and on - would by themselves have had serious repercussions on the national political picture.

Recall how that bizarre (and fitting) memorial-service-turned-ugly-stormtrooper-rallyfor Paul Wellstone actually seemed to affect both MN and national political currents at the time? Just that one event.

This is one (recurring) reason I find it very difficult to see any light at the end of the tunnel. It's now been years on end of things that, for most of my life, would have had concrete political consequences. Now? Crickets. And re-election or other rewards for the perps.

634 The problem with the whole Destroy the Media idea is ... most people are freely choosing to consume ProgMedia content in a pretty fair and free market.

That's especially so on the internet where everything is a click away from everything else. People are choosing HuffPo and BuzzFeed and NYT and the rest of ProgMedia.

All the annoying sites that keep putting prog politics in non-political -- the deadspins and crackeds -- there's no media monopoly forcing people to click.

Andrew Klavan has talked about that. Conservatives need to get better at telling stories and producing content people want. A lot of "conservative" movies and TV often is kind of hokey and boring, so people tune out.

It's a hard problem to solve.

If the threat of violence or the appearance of the threat of violence puts you off, then you're already a prisoner of anyone willing to do so.

I fully understand how you feel but this country wasn't founded and freed by non-violent protest marches (although they had their place) and it hasn't been kept free by appeasing those who threatened it with violence.

You still have hope that the situation can be turned around and resolved without violence.

God bless you.

Some of us don't have that hope any longer and feel that the sooner it starts the sooner it will be over.

I don't think any of us who truly mean it when we say "let it burn" don't understand it will not be pleasant nor easy and that innocents will die or be injured and property and dreams damaged or destroyed.

But this fight is being forced on us it is not something we sought out to have happen.

But we must not shirk from the necessities or we may as well either cut our throats now or prostrate ourselves to our masters.

Sorry but you're forgetting a very important point: This is Ace's blog and he's ultimately on the hook for whatever get said here. So no you don't have complete freedom of speech here.

If you want that and to not have to comment subject to the scant rules of the Ewok, then you need to get you own place.

And frankly Ace or any of the cobs don't need proof or even reasonable suspicion that a commenter will do something. Violating one of the big rules, or just being a persistent pest, or merely acting in a way judged to be 'contrary to the best interests of the blog' are all sufficient reasons to get banned.

675 Reading the comments from the last hour (While I was doing an expense report).

The 60's were worse than now in many ways. Much more rioting, racial strife, the more efficient malevolence of LBJ (Obama is an amateur).

As hard as so much of this is to swallow, this will pass. We'll shake a lot of this off. Some things are gone forever, which is too bad.

But that's America. We're always tearing down, re-building, re-inventing ourselves.

I miss the way the world was in many ways, when I was growing up, but then again, a lot of things are better now.

People CAN be more informed if they make the effort. The Internet is a powerful tool for knowledge, that didn't exist 45-50 years ago.

If we give in to hate, hating our countrymen, hating our country, then the Left wins. They really want to watch the world burn.

There will be another side to all this. The country will renew itself. I don't know how or who will lead, but it will happen. Many of us now alive may not live to see it, but the idea of America is too strong to die.

It is an idea more than a place, and it lives in the hearts of people. If we give up what's inside of us, then the dream, the idea dies.

And anybody who disagrees with me can go screw -off. (Ha!)

683 Actually, Jonathan Edwards wasn't angry and posed off at the world although he was annoyed at some of his congregation members who treated him badly. "Sinners In the Hand of An Angry God" is just one thing he wrote. He was a very intense theologian and intellectual thinker and his writings also include reflections on nature and remarks about his love for his wife. It's too bad that such a thoughtful man has been reduced to that one piece of writing.

I don't believe that saying "let it burn" is threatening anything or anyone.

It's a declaration that attempting to stave off the threat of assault or destruction by progressives of the country is of less importance or concern to the fact that acquiescence to the progressives will result in the fundamental dissolution of the country anyway.

So we have a choice we can watch them destroy the country piecemeal or we can continue trying to slow it down yet fail in the long run.

There's no threat by anyone it's an acknowledgement that continued effort will be a waste of time and money as it seems that enough forces have been set in motion to do so by illegal means or through subtlety using the system itself.

We currently have NO representatives of conservative values in numbers that would make a difference to stop the continued slide into tyranny/slavery and there doesn't appear to be any on the horizon.

Sure there's some who talk but they are limited in number and power. Those who have the numbers or the power have signaled their surrender.

Too many times people read into what someone says what they THINK they're saying while not listening to the exact words and what they mean.

---------

It's not. I agree, Bitter Clinger.
But I was lamenting the "Burn it down" stuff...which is quite different from the "let it burn" sentiments.
If you'll go back and read what I said, you will see that.

"Burn it down" calls for active destruction.
"Let it burn" is passive...it is saying "let's let them have what they want and watch it come crashing down around them".
At least that's what I took Ace to mean when he has said "let it burn" on occasion.

Hey, I agree with your sentiments for the most part.
But I stop short of calling for armed insurrection on the internet, because I think it's kind of a foolish thing to do.

I intend to resist, mock, misbehave and be an irritant to our Prog Overlords.
And I think that is all we should be suggesting or calling for, here in Ace's house.

691 I don't think anyone needs to call for "armed insurrection"

I believe that it is not one large one that will happen but many small ones over a period of time. Think a Bundy Ranch situation happening many times over a short period of time.

So glad you mentioned Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" and the firemen whose job it was to burn information, knowledge, thus, freedom.
Remember the dog and the camera filming the man trying to escape it? They wanted all eye on the tv and "entertainment" while they did their thing.
Obama and Jarrett and Holder in Ferguson? In NYC with Big (oh, Little) Al Sharpie?

Takes the media's attention off the recent emails being quashed by IRS.
That scandal goes all the way through Holder and DOJ to Jarrett to POTUS--a high crime deserving of impeachment.

However, notice the timing. Ferguson. Riots. NYC. Eric Garner grand jury. Riots. IRS now saying that while they found the Lerner emails, they can't give the emails to anyone because that would violate IRS law about not revealing individual tax returns. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. How's that for gall?
All too reminiscent of Bradbury's tale.

BTW, Ray couldn't stand Obama.
