It's called, Fuck You, America: This Is What You Get.

Yeah I know we all love Chris Pratt but seriously.

It reminds me of "Indiana Jones and the Nonsense of the Crystal Skulls" where we were treated to a sword-fight on the backs of jeeps that were zooming through the jungle like they were travelling on a sheet of glass!

What is it with Spielberg?

Long ago (in "Raiders...") when they needed to drag a guy behind a truck, they friggin' DRAGGED A GUY BEHIND A TRUCK! Now, it's all CGI laziness and no one gives a tinker's cuss if it looks realistic or not.

46 #16: Yes. Yes, it does.

From the trailer:

Chris Pratt is Grant/Malcom/Muldoon.

Bryce Howard is Sadler/Hammond.

Kid is the two kids.

First act is the first act of Jurassic Park.

Huge action spectacle is "dino rampages among people" from The Lost World, except inside the park rather than in San Francisco.

There will be a dinosaur brawl between a T. Rex and the "hybrid," a la T. Rex vs spinosaurus in JPIII.

So, here's me: "Umm...what's the point?" The only way I'll be interested in this is if the "hybrid" is actually a genetic combination of a dinosaur and Samuel L. Jackson.

Creepy Guy in the Red Letter Media critique of the second Star Wars trilogy (i.e. the prequels) noted that when actors ran through actual sets there was action and momentum to a scene, whereas when everything is green-screened it's very static because the actors just stroll around the small filming area. There's an awful lot of "walk and talk" segments in the prequels.

What happens when they start sweetening the looks of actors with CGI, and then you see their hideous carcasses in real life? I mean, it'll be worse that "Stars Without Makeup!"

And speaking of CGI actors, I was wondering how they'll finish up Mockingjay Pt II without Philip Seymour Hoffman. But apparently they have enough footage that they can CGI his image into the missing segments.

How long before they do without pesky actors altogether?

Kubrick is one on my favorites fer sure. I just love the way he can frame a shot, pair it up with a story, music and get that Kubrick feel in them, while placed back to back they are so different from each other, but all have the same really cool threads in them.

The Coen brothers are similar, very talented. And I love how their movies are all in some way fundamentally about American subjects (yes I do have a love of this country, and don't mind owning up to that).

217 A lot of directors really grow as the make movies. They'll have different styles.

That doesn't seem true with Spielberg, though. Maybe with a few movies, like Catch Me When You Can, that seems different but not in any spectacular new way.

Though Warner Bros stepped on their crank recently by trying to be miserly with that bank. Said they could not afford to fly the seven Kiwi dwarves from the Hobbit movies to the European premier. And the National Guard shows up at the end after everything's over and the head Guard says--"Looks like you had a hell of a night there pal. I think most of the directors definitely have a pretty complete picture of what the movie will look like. Then they sit around and explain to the crew so they can make it so.

Although there are also directors brought in to fix a disaster and I don't know what they do. The best they can I imagine.

333 "ET, Jaws, Raiders, Close Encounters, Ryan, Schindler's List, Catch Me

He's made a lot of great movies. And $9B in box office returns globally. That's billion with a B.

Posted by: Costanza Defense"

First of all this is a matter of taste, and there is no wrong answer. My opinion of those movies is decidedly blah, Raiders was enjoyable, Private Ryan probably the best of them, but all in all I find them to be exactly what people are generally saying, movies made to make money; very acceptable to the public and accessible. These movies (Private Ryan and Schindlers list being the exceptions) are very scripted (that term, applies to moviemaking is especially apt), by that I mean built to a recipe designed to be accessible and popular I mention and in the end make money.
And there's nothing wrong with this, and I do agree that technially these movies are well made. But I find this kind of boring and not enjoyable for the most part. --I would say this about 12 Monkeys as well, I could watch Brazil over and over and after watching Raiders a few times there's just nothing left there of interest. That's what I think, that's all.
And no, lots of these people do not make movies just to make money, it is a reason but it is not the reason. Especially when you have a little pile of it laying around monry becomes far less imporant. Kubrick is a great example of this, look how few movies he made, he took his time and obsessed over every little detail, costing a fortune by the way. If he was making movies only to make money, he would have made many more of them, you cannot not see this. Speilberg;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Spielberg_filmography
Lots of movies. And I am not saying he is only making them to make money either, I didn't bring this up. It sure seems to me like he was in it for the money lots more than Kubrick though.
Now production companies, there is no argument, nor should there be; they are in the business of making money by making movies.
And I repeat, there is nothing wrong with this, I never said there is.

In my opinion, Spielberg makes movies that are more money than art, Kubrick makes art that he is very happy when it makes money. Big difference to me. That is what makes Spielberg a hack.
And his movies are nowhere near the caliber of a Kubrick or a Gilliam, which of course, they aren't. Miles away.
