Ultimately it's not about me, it's about him, and he deserves to know.

I just pray the cost of knowing does not exceed its value.

My thoughts on Ferguson and their difficulties with having White PoPo tending to their crime needs:

1. How about more than 12% of you show up to vote to decide who runs things.
2. Encourage your young Black men and women to pursue a career in law enforcement or if none of yours are up to the challenge--ADVERTISE and hire for DIVERSITY--pay a premium if necessary, or pay off school loans or whatever.
3. Teach your younguns that during an encounter with an armed person with a badge who has the legal authority to kill your dumb @ss if you attack them--be polite, say Yes/No sir/ma'am and comply instantly with their instructions. During the interactions with the police for three speeding tickets I have received over many years of driving: I was uber polite, kept my hands where they could be seen, and complied with instructions and dayum, I got a ticket, but, I lived.

129 So everybody see the editorial at Time Mag On-Line Ferguson: In Defense of Rioting by noted privliged liberal of pallor Darlena Cuhna? She is a true nutty prog who runs a blog dedicatted to informing the world every detail of her two darling little girls (oops, two small humans born with female organs). She may be trolling for attention, like some other things she posts but you never know with progs. Apparently rioting is a perfectly fine way to express yourself if you feel oppressed. To her, privileged white liberal she is, normal working people caught up in the chaos don't matter especially if they are black. Big question is, of course, would she still think rioting is just fine if it came to her neighborhood and her two daughers were trapped and killed in a fire? Do liberals even think this deep?

I'm going to tell it anyway, punks.

So, Squanto was a Wampanoag Indian indianing his way through life on the coast of Massachusetts. That coast was not a virgin uncharted wilderness, because in the century between the Age of Discovery and the era of Settlement, the English were crawling all over the coastline trying to get rich.

And out of an abundance of white privilege they would periodically steal an Indian or four to show off back home. Squanto was one of those. He lived in England for a few years, learned English, and fucked off the minute he could escape. [I'm shaky on the details, he may have had to escape twice].

He gets himself to Nova Scotia and pretty much walks all the way back to Massachusetts. Where he finds his entire village deserted because dead because smallpox.

So he's wandering around and he sees some befuddled Englishmen who have moved to Massachusetts in November (first bad idea) without knowing how to fish, farm, or hunt (bad ideas two - four).

They, in their amazement, see an Indian walk out of the woods and shout "Hello, English!". And he teaches them how to have at least half survive the first winter.

Amen! Got the education, worked the long hours, did without and saved like crazy during our 20s and 30s, so that the magic of compounding would ensure us a safe and secure life, and guess what it worked. If Asians and Indians can wash up on these shores with nothing in their pockets and a language barrier and within two generations be living the American dream, then anyone can do it, particularly Black American youngsters who have scholarships and set asides to smooth their way. IIRC, they hired a boat driver who couldn't navigate--they wanted to go to Virginia--and they stopped and got off when they ran out of beer.

I think -- and looking things up violates the Bandersnatch Rules of How to Internet -- that they hired a lazy boat driver. All of the east coast was Virginia at the time, it hadn't been divided into colonies.

They wanted to go to the Jamestown Virginia and the boat driver said "this is Virginia enough for my contract". And also beer. That part is true.

Didn't make it back to the boat without being attacked, though. Nobody killed, but a nice gun vs. arrow fight ensued. The Mayflower moved on to Plymouth a few days later.

316 Old joke.

Husband takes the wife to her high school reunion.

After
meeting several of her friends and former school mates, they are
sitting at a table where he is yawning and overly bored. The band cranks
up and people are beginning to dance.

There's
a guy on the dance floor living it large, break dancing, moon walking,
back flips, buying drinks for people, the works.

Wife turns to her husband and says, "See that guy? 25 years ago he proposed to me and I turned him down.

Husband says: "Looks like he's still celebrating!!!"

$5 says you will forward this.

The town I used to live in shares the bay with Plymouth and many of the early settlers like Myles Standish moved over when the colony started to breakdown. There are a quite a few Mayflower descendants who still live in the town and they would be happy to let you know. Pilgrim elitists.

They always have reserved seats for town meetings, right down front, and no meeting would be complete without a lecture on what their ancestors would have done on any issue.

352 I read Jon Krakauer's book about the kid who died in the Denali.

The story isn't quite the way it was portrayed in the right-wing media. The kid was actually a highly skilled outdoorsman. He was probably killed by being poisoned by some wild food he ate up there.

The whole "Alexander Supertramp" thing wasn't the way it was portrayed either. That was only one of many aliases he used.

Know why he used aliases? He didn't believe in being taxed on his earnings.

So, not exactly a full-on moonbat.

In the 50's, people would just feed the bears so they knew they had an easy meal coming, didn't need to chase it.

There is an (in my family) iconic photo of my father in his Air Force uniform feeding a trout to a bear in Yellowstone.

Bear didn't want the trout. Dad had to hide a candy bar behind the fish to get the bear to pose.

A sign I saw in MT went roughly:

Many hikers wear bells on their shoes to alert bears to their presence and carry pepper spray for defense.

You can tell whether there are brown bears or black bears in your area by studying their scat. Black bear scat is lumpy and often contains twigs and seeds.

Brown bear scat smells like pepper and has bells in it.

Often I am shocked at their faces when they are called Sir, or thanked. Um... Has Snuffalupagous never seen how fast someone can cover 10 yards? Maybe he should watch some football one day, he might get an idea of why someone might be concerned that someone built like a linebacker was charging him from "30 feet away."

487 Interstellar is set on a doomed Earth with a blight which eats all plants. It's caused by nitrogen which in itself is a wickedly witty reversal of the role played by the trace gas, CO2, in the AGW fantasy. Nitrogen is 80% of the Earth's atmosphere and along with oxygen the bulk of the atmosphere. The point being made is that the idea that humans through their tiny emissions of an already tiny trace gas could destroy the planet is simply nonsense compared with what nature can do.

Our hero Cooper, who is an astronaut, has a hilarious run in with 2 education officials who berate him for his son's disputation of the validity of the Moon landing.

This is a multi-layered joke. Firstly many astronauts including those who were actually on the Moon think AGW is garbage.

Secondly, a prominent alarmist, Lewandowsky, who is an educator, has prepared a notorious paper which asserts those who doubt AGW are also likely to doubt the Moon landings. That in the future it is the educators who are now the ones denying the Moon landing is a rather neat reversal of Lewandowsky's stupid idea and a pointed indictment of the capitulation of education to the lie of alarmism today.
