They submit someone, flush them like a turd. Then ask what they thought of the list. Keep doing it. The MFM will try to blame the rethuglickkkkkkkkans, and then have everyone point to the list. It was what, two days ago there was a headline/comment somewhere that Obama had 're up' us for another year in Afghanistan?
The story was Obama wanted troops out and 'the military' made the point that Afghanistan would be lost exactly as Iraq was lost and 'the military' won a concession from the white house for another year in country. Obama wanted troops out, and 'the military' pushed back, and forced a concession from Obama. Therefore someone had to go, and it wasn't going to be Obama Posted by: Idly Obscurtia at November 24, 2014 09:21 AM (d/ghU) 55

Posted by: Thin veneer of civility at November 24, 2014 09:13 AM (XzRw1) Some people object to Bush bashing. Having seen the consequences of decisions which I opposed at the time made by both of the Bushes, it is important to remember that without understanding where and why you went wrong, you cannot correct bad ideas and bad policies. Negative feedback is our friend. The Bushes did horrible damage to the conservative cause by compromising and working to reach accommodations with the Liberal Democrats. Reagan did some of this as well, and I will point out that when he did, it was generally a failed policy. So Hagel's out butI don't follow the logic of the move. Wouldn't Kerry be the likely scapegoat for our foreign policy disasters? Another thing, too: Obama's avowed goal of reducing our military to pre-WWII levels no doubtremains the same. Our nuclear deterrent is a shambles. Service member morale is dismal across the board. The Chinese are on the move in the South China Sea. Russia is running amok in the Ukraine. Iran is on the threshold of nuclear capability. ISIS. These are the direct results or indirect consequences of policy decisions made by the White House. How, exactly, is a new SecDef the solution to any of these problems? "We now know the answer to the age old question, "Is there anyone too incompetent for work for Barack Obama?""

The weakass Republicans, who are afraid to make anyone mad, have packed up their bags and gone for vacation. I have even tried to call Ted Cruz office (I live in Texas) and just got in a do-loop. I guess none of them want to answer the phone and take angry calls. We all contributed, worked and worried over this last election only to have them decide to do nothing about the amnesty move. Sen. Jack Reed Reed has consistently been speculated as a possible Secretary of Defense. In late 2010, he turned down an offer from President Obama to succeed Robert Gates as Secretary of Defense. The position was ultimately filled by Leon Panetta. After President Obama was re-elected in 2012, Reed was again mentioned as a possible nominee for Secretary of Defense, as well as for Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Once again, he denied interest in either position. wiki Doesn't seem to want the job, and decided not to run for certain re-election this year. Might just want to retire and bother the grandkids. My money is on Flournoy.
In fact, I had her tabbed for the successor to Gates as SECDEF before the surprise Hagel pick. Let's keep something in mind here, though. The reason they picked Hagel was, according to top Obama political operative Bill Burton, because Obama's goal for the Defense Department during his last years in office is to impose "huge cuts" in U.S. military spending. In those exact words. Huge cuts. Burton went on to say that Hagel, as a Republican and as a combat vet, was needed to provide a fig leaf for those "huge cuts". That was the rationale for Upchuck. Not because of competence or any other factor. Just for optics. Do not expect the underlying aim to change regardless of whom the new SECDEF turns out to be. A Small Man in a Big Office http://natl.re/1vxhnKZ via @NRO
My friend Jay Nordlinger describes the president as operating according to what we might call the Warhol Doctrine: "Democracy is what you can get away with." ... What stops a politician from adopting a what-you-can-get-away-with strategy is, under normal circumstances, patriotism. ... It would be bad for the country. In an elected official, patriotism means, among other things, elevating the interests of the country above the interests of party and career. President Obama has failed to do that, seems personally incapable of doing that, and in fact has done the opposite. He might be reminded, at the very least, that his presidential duty is to the citizens of the United States, not to citizens of other countries, regardless of where they happen to be located at any given moment. But the very idea of taking that seriously seems foreign to him. Posted by: Costanza Defense at November 24, 2014 10:19 AM (ZPrif) 364

So on the Michele Flournoy front:
There was a flap just recently about one of those "objective, independent, neutral, nonpartisan" Beltway think tanks, the Truman National Security Project. Of course, as the vast majority of these things are, it's just a sinecure for various Democratic hacks in between cushy government and media gigs. So the "objective, independent, neutral, nonpartisan" team at Truman got caught circulating an incriminating e-mail. In which they were trying to gin up a JournoList style coordinated backchannel campaign to help plump for Obama's ridiculous Iran deal. Via having the usual suspects submit glowing op-ed pieces to friendly media outlets in which the Obama plan for Iran would be glowingly praised. This is just the usual Democrat-Media Complex shitweasellery at work, but what will make things interesting is that it *just* happened a few days ago, and the shortlisted Flournoy happens to be on the board of advisors of the Truman Project. Mr. Hagel came in to manage the Afghanistan combat withdrawal It didn't happen the way Obama wanted it to happen In the UK Telegraph http://tinyurl.com/pnegs3p Obama secretly extends US Combat role in Afghanistan The news paper said civilian advisors argued against the extension (That would be the White House) But "the military pretty much got what it wanted." The newspaper said the change was in part related to the rapid advance of jihadist Islamic State militants in Iraq, which has sparked criticism that Obama pulled troops out without a fully-prepared Iraqi military in place. Obama is saying that Hagel has to go because he failed to deal with ISIS, yet it is the Military that wants to deal with ISIS aggressively and it is Obama that does not. What's more, just to show how awful obama is and how badly he used Hagel, obama fires him! It's pretty rare that a president does this. He usually allows for the cabinet member to submit his resignation and makes sure that the headlines read as such. There's a big difference bewtween "obama accepts Hagel's resignation" and "obama asks for Hagel's resignation." For instance, Sebelius wasn't, according to the news/history, driven out of town under a cloud of shame. They let her pretend to resign...and obama pretended to accept it reluctantly. Hagel is getting a far different treatment. He's being thrown out quite publicly. Posted by: Please Don't Squeeze The Soothsayer at November 24, 2014 10:29 AM (etNxX) 413

Hagel had no purpose in the last two years, so he's gone.
Hagel's purpose was to be the fig leaf and trick Repubs into going along with huge cuts to defense spending and various social engineering schemes for the military (ie, fewer icky straight white dudes with their stuff about honor and duty and manly ways). Last two years Obama knows he can't fool Congress anymore, no point trying. But he can accelerate the social engineering -- so time to put a true believer in charge. Hey let's put Wendy Davis in the Sec Defense chair. Those pink tennis shoes will look pretty spiffy--and she can certainly handle the abortion that Obozo wants to make of our military.

Obama will get who he wants
Posted by: Costanza Defense at November 24, 2014 10:55 AM (ZPrif) I think that that's important in any case, because it is to some extent a President's prerogative to choose his SecDef, and because when the SHTF it'll mean Obongo can lay off the fuckups so easily. Just to be clear, you guys don't REALLY believe that Obama would oust this guy because he was doing a shitty job, do you? He was PICKED because Obama didn't care if someone did a shitty job running the military and defending the country, and to be the witless token Republican, so he could claim to be bipartisan.
I immediately assumed that either he wants to get some Commie hack in there before the New Senate shows up, or he wants to slam the New Senate Republicans for giving him a hard time about the Commie he wants to pick, saying that they are being irresponsible regarding national security. I'm guessing it's the former, or maybe this wold have come a bit later. Posted by: Optimizer at November 24, 2014 11:09 AM (/q6+P) 492

@457 "... I don't know what the hell ANY Republican is thinking by working under a Democrat Administration. You're basically just behind glass, ready to break whenever they need an emergency scapegoat. ..."
There IS such a thing as trying to get along with the other side, and taking advantage of experience people might have. But any such thing is certainly non-existant in THIS Administration. What gets me is when they give up a contestable Senate seat to do it. It's basically scoring a goal for the other team. Now in all honesty he didn't get to pick Biden. But it's going to be damned interesting if he answers questions re the guys blabbing about classified info. He should be impeached for that.
Then his boss can be impeached for failing to faithfully execute the laws. Then we get Boehner. Oh well, better than Pelosi. Could you imagine Pelosi as Prezident? Posted by: torabora at November 24, 2014 11:25 AM (07yCQ) 514
