I broke my rule about not buying new releases and picked up Far Cry 4, mainly because the reviewers all seemed to agree that it's just like Far Cry 3.

Haven't done shit for gaming this past week other than checking out the last chapter in the Lone Wolf series. Kinda sad to see it being wrapped up

GOG is having a decent Fall sale right now. RPG bundles like the DD classics, Spiderweb or Ultima games for a single low price.

An earlier Bungie game by the name of "Oni" was kind of "Ghost In The Shell" like.
You play an augmented female soldier in a Japanese anime universe trying to stop a terrorist organization. The controls were pretty difficult though. Firing off martial art combat moves using a series of precise keyboard/mouse movements. Took a long time to master. But pretty innovative back when it was released. I thought it was a blast to play. Then Bungie got microsofted and sold off the franchise. Posted by: BananaDream at November 23, 2014 03:37 PM (vLk7c) 26
@25
I have fond memories of Oni. First game released in the Halo engine, iirc. The story was fairly generic, but the combat was fun once you got over the learning curve. Posted by: Komissar Vladimir at November 23, 2014 03:40 PM (voUxQ) 27

Been enjoying Warlords on WoW. Had a bit of a scare yesterday as my farthest advanced toon somehow got hung-up in hearthstoning. I shut the game down, restarted it, and when I tried to log in with that character I got a message that "a character with that name already exists". Fortunately, logging in on another server and then going back to that server and toon worked. Never had that happen before.

I will have videos up throughout this week on the arcade stuff. So far Jurassic Park is getting the most attention.
Ah Bladestorm, I still need to finish that on the 360. It is one of my favorite musou variations though and the background of the 100 Years War I find more fascinating than some of the Chinese Dynasty stuff Posted by: Arcadehero at November 23, 2014 05:46 PM (UDNmb) 48
I'd like to be able to say I gave Sunset Overdrive a good try-out while it was free for 24 hours but so far my Xbox One has been very unreliable. I've had to do four hard resets, pulling the power cord, in less than two days. Three times have been from standby comas and once when it crashed in the first stage of Sunset Overdrive.
Since the game has nothing like a tutorial and you start off with no weapons or even a vague description of what is happening, all I could do is wander around and die a lot until it crashed, taking the console with it. I'm shocked to say this is one of my worst out of box experiences with a new machine in almost 35 years of using nearly every console marketed in the US. Thanks for the Horde guild invite, Polliwog. WoW has changed a lot in the 5 years I've been away, I like it a lot.

The new WoW expansion really is a great correction to the game as it was getting way too button-y. They trimmed a bunch of duplicate and irrelevant abilities down to a solid number that makes sense. I'm a heck of a lot more effective now than before - I'd get hesitant and worried about the best way to respond - now I have an interrupt, a few cooldowns defensive and offensive, and some other CC and positional abilities on my hunter. It feels clean now, like it did in Vanilla.
The Garrisons are fun as hell. The expansion storylines are tight and well written. It's just fun, and in MoP I didn't have any fun. You also get to skip all the Mists of Pandaria content and just pump a single character up to level 90 too. It's win-win. Posted by: Inspector Cussword at November 23, 2014 06:05 PM (vmltA) 51
I've been playing FC4 this weekend too. Honey Badgers will attack you and can kill you if you're not careful. Pretty cool. The animals are well done. Found one dialogue bit where a guy says he's like Rush Limbaugh, but with a conscience and heart.. and also throws away the line of " it's so hot it's like Guantanamo in here".
Why do they have to throw stuff like that in? Anyway, at least the Rush radio guy is trying to fight back against non-stop propaganda from the Government which I found amusing , as that's what Rush does. Really enjoying the flow of the game though and the storylines. Lots to do. I got it free with a new video card, and I wouldn't be pissed if I paid full price, waiting a few months for it to go on sale would be a good idea too. I'm also waiting patiently for 7 days to die to go to Alpha 10 update, which should happen in the next week or two. A fun Zed-killer on Steam that has a lot of promise so far. Still in Alpha though.. but they are making great progress ... so far.. who knows if it will stay fun as they update it. Posted by: Yip at November 23, 2014 06:24 PM (84SRe) 52
Draenor is OKAY. I like the garrisons idea, but I hate that they gutted professions to do it. Especially since some work without outside help of any kind (blacksmithing, with the mine always providing enough for your daily) where others like tailoring and enchanting are a real pain to work on.
Inspector -- I heard that bumping to 90 puts you in a sort of tutorial for your toon, almost like the Death Knight intro from 58-60, is that true, and does it work well if so? Have gotten a Nelf Druid and Draenei Pally to 100, still working on garrison buildings and working out the kinks. It's good, but I do hate how professions were reduced to a daily cooldown and nothing more. Posted by: acethepug at November 23, 2014 07:56 PM (37xk6) 53
Yeah, you get bumped to 90 and you get portions of your abilties unlocked as you go through a series of 10 or so chained quests. The quests also explain the lore as you go and how various abilities can deal with types of mobs. It is done really well - I only had 9 levels but it assumed I was bumping from a low (20ish) level and needed refreshing. It was nicely written.
Posted by: Inspector Cussword at November 23, 2014 08:01 PM (vmltA) Posted by: acethepug at November 23, 2014 08:27 PM (37xk6) 55
WoW does have a problem with their 10th anniversary gift. The Molten Corgi is a unique battlepet but they send one to *every* toon you log in with. Of course, you can only activate it once so I've got a bunch of toons with Corgis in their bags and I'm afraid to delete the extra corgis in case it affects the one already activated.

Hi guys. I'm still here, I've just been busy. I cooked pasta+sauce for the work week, more or less, because of being broke.
Regarding WoW... I must be the only person who actually liked MoP. What I dislike about WoW lately is what they did to the talent system. I haven't gotten Warlords yet, so I can't really see what they did to Professions yet. I'm not sure I like the whole "let's get rid of stats and stuff" simplification, since there appear to be entirely new stats to replace them. (versatility? really?) Posted by: Thing From Snowy Mountain at November 23, 2014 09:43 PM (mHiqJ) 57
I like the corgi. Post-rulechange, I can understand how to play my enh shaman but not my ele shaman. It's like he was super-nerfed. Maybe I'll boost him from 90 to 90 when I get paid again, so I can take the tutorial and learn how to play my class.
