Here's a puzzler:
How many professional athletes are there in America? Male and female separate. I don't know the answer, was just wondering. I'd define a "pro athlete" as making a living at it, so at least $50K a year. And that's cash, not other compensation (like college scholarship) that is harder to evaluate. And which sport has the most "pro athlete" jobs? For men I'm pretty sure it's baseball once you add up all the minor leaguers, for women ... I don't know. We are leaving Wednesday for Thanksgiving out of town. When I leave, I plan to erect a large sign in my front yard: Dear Looters....this house is owned by the Man. Do not burn it down. Thank you. The Man. And when I return I can get all my home repair projects done by cashing the insurance check and paying someone to do them. OT - did some reading into House Intelligence Report on Benghazi
- Focuses on the CIA's (Intelligence Community) involvement in the 9/11 attacks in Benghazi - It says that the CIA actions on the ground (without authority up the command chain) were appropriate and "saved lives" - The report is exculpatory for the Intelligence Community, but makes no such statements as to the State Department, DOD or the Administration. - "there was no INTELLIGENCE failure prior to the attacks" --- left unsaid is that STATE should have understood that given the increased threat environment, that on 9/11/12 State Department resources should have been on high alert - Finding #2: "CIA provided sufficient security personnel, resourses, and equipment to defend against the known terrorist threat and to enable CIA operations in Benghazi. There is no evidence that the CIA turned down requests for additional security resources at the Annex". --- ie failures the State Department annex were State problems, not CIA problems - Finding #3: "State Department security personnel, resources, and equipment were unable to counter the terrorist threat that day, and they required CIA assistance" -- "The DS agents (State Department) also told CIA about their requests for additional resources that were pending with the US Embassy in Tripoli. The CIA security contractors noted the security flaws of the TMF." - Finding #4: "The CIA was not collecting and shipping arms from Libya to Syria"... - "no evidence that the CIA conducted unauthorized activities in Benghazi and no evidence that the IC (Intelligence Community shipped arms to Syria. - Finding #6: "Appropriate personnel on the ground in Benghazi made the decision to send CIA officers to rescue the State Department officers at the TMF." --- this finding reflects nothing about what State or DOD may or may not have done / prevented in terms of rescue/extraction. - this is one the key reasons for the report as written, to exculpate CIA ground personnel Finding #7: "...no officer at CIA was ever told to stand down" --- this does not consider what non-CIA assets in theatre were ordered to do/not do - "the Administratrion's initial public narrative on the causes and motivations for the attacks were not fully accurate" - early on there were a wide range of intelligence on what may have been behind the attack - "the process used to generate the talking points HPSCI asked for - and which were used for Ambassador Rice's public appearances - was flawed" - Finding #12: "Deputy CIA Director Michael Morell made significant changes to the talking points." - Finding #13: CIA did not intimidate or prevent any officer from speaking to Congress or otherwise telling his story. --- this is not exculpatory for State or the Administration... Any reporting that says that this clears the Administration is probably taking its language from the "Minority Views" (Appendix 2) which was not in the PDF that I reviewed. We never had to do that before. This was combined with a note I saw in my bosses off from his boss saying. The Bishop will meet at ________ at 8:00 with pastors "deeply involved" with the community. The bishop will meet at 9:00 with "average" pastors. I thought "average" was a poor and tactless choice of words and I wanted to ask "Is the Bishop expecting us to turn in our weekly sales figures too?". Sorry. More information than you needed, I know. I was thinking it was either that (feeling threatened) or the logistics of having the jurors, judges, lawyers in one place at one time. Were I in charge of the security detail I'd have all the above take cabs to the courthouse in the morning and then stagger them out in the afternoon. The jurors may not even be going home for a while after this. Oddly, if there is a decision to charge they'll still riot. And then we get to do this all over again with a trial. I don't blame the jurors for considering their own lives and the lives of their children when making the decision. We aren't all born to be martyrs to the cause.

314 -- wheatie -- I theory, no. The vote for a 'bill' (or 'no bill') is a majority-based decision, with the number of grand jurors typically being an 'odd' number of people; the odds of a 'dead-locked' panel being near zero.
The GJ'ers (basically) see the same sorta evidence that a prosecutor would present to a (regular) empaneled jury... let's call a mini-pretrial. The part that doesn't add up (to me) is that by this point in time, all of the available evidence should have been presented... the actual interplay (argument) between the GJ'ers normally only takes a day (at most) to vote a bill up or down. Something is happening outside the normal dynamic... the only question now is this: is the delay being instigated at the local, state, or national level? Posted by: CPT. The Ferguson mess was co-opted by people from the outside who have been pursuing Leftist agendas for years: The NBPP, Occupy, CPUSA, Sharpton and the like, black racists, Anonymous, Pali symps, and so on, including the media itself.
The appearance of a hood-rat uprising is just a facade formed from a lot of gullible idiots who can't plan long-term as evidenced by their utter lack of ambition or achievement, and some people who think they're going on peace marches in 1963 Selma, who the Commies et al will gladly get killed for a few more martyrs. Sepultura - Orgasmatron. The only song I know that has the word 'obsequious'.
I am the one, Orgasmatron, the outstretched grasping hand My image is of agony, my servants rape the land Obsequious and arrogant, clandestine and vain Two thousand years of misery, of torture in my name Hypocrisy made paramount, paranoia the law My name is called religion, sadistic, sacred whore. I twist the truth, I rule the world, my crown is called deceit I am the emperor of lies, you grovel at my feet I rob you and I slaughter you, your downfall is my gain And still you play the sycophant and revel in my pain And all my promises are lies, all my love is hate I am the politician, and I decide your fate Posted by: model_1066 at November 22, 2014 07:54 PM (P+ZSo) 455

Ya, well, I stumbled into an internet argument about 'science!' vs 'intelligent design' and I thought if one were to stumble across a very young planet with a high concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere and one wanted to terraform said planet, well why not air drop some Cyanobacteria into the soup. You would then introduce carbon based DNA, and reduce atmospheric CO2 levels, and increase O2 levels. When you return in a few hundred million years, air drop a few more strands of DNA into the soup. Of course it could all be accidental since 'shirt guy' and his team with the comet lander claim to have found amino acid molecules on the comet. Said amino acid molecules might well be nothing more than a collection of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, and a few other atoms. Sixteen is all that is required I think and twelve of them are contained in the stream of atoms and ions blown off the surface of the sun. So random chance seems to suggest that amino acid molecules should not be unexpected. Which led to the smallest genome question. Candidatus Hodgkinia cicadicola Dsem at 169 genes as listed in the wiki. The genome of M. genitalium consists of 525 genes in one circular DNA of 580,070 base pairs seems a bit much for random chance, but given enough time and opportunity probability theory suggests that anything is possible. I have a Kubuntu disc that I downloaded and burned, and successfully used to install Kubuntu onto a laptop, but I cannot get it to boot from the CD drive on this machine. Any suggestions? Somewhere I have a bootable disc for the 3.25" floppy that Cd-rom support, and that is probably the answer.
Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon Never tried Ku; i've booted Xubuntu on a couple of old Pentium chip machines. Video drivers and settings were the hardest for me. We got a call two weeks ago from a vet. They had a cat that belonged to my boyfriend's late wife. This vet had done the original microchip. Someone brought the cat in as an abandoned cat. It's been missing since around 2006, when they had a house fire. It's been living in a nearby neighborhood all that time. It's been interesting trying to get it settled in. It's a large long haired Scottish Fold.

"In which case a CD-only drive wouldn't read it, right? I should have an IDE DVD drive I could use.
Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon" BIOS on some of those old systems may or may boot from cd, that may also be issue. It is possible in such cases to install boot loader on floppy that points to the cdrom for the system. I'm sure the files are out there but you would have to do some searching and it would be a trick to find all the right pieces, write the floppy and get it all to work. I remember doing this years ago. Tell you a story. I have been using Linux for years, I love it. Started playing with it back like 1997 or 8 I think. The first Linux system I installed was downloaded over the course of a few months mostly at my place of work because back then internet access was limited and by analog dial up, written to floppy's for installation. This was a stack of floppy discs at least two feet high. Must have been 100 of them. When I finally collected them all and had then organized I got to run through the installation process, loading one, hitting enter, watching it spin, ejecting, loading another... etc. Wow, amazing that it worked. And to see how ubiquitous it is today, is pretty cool. Good times, good times. Posted by: Mrs. Ida Lowry at November 22, 2014 10:05 PM (8N+Kq) 639
