More Americans Than Ever Don't Believe Health Care is a Government Responsibility

Obama is the shit-fingered Midas.

Before he took up the cause of health care reform, most Americans thought it was a government responsibility to guarantee it for all Americans; since he incompetently involved his lying mouth, they no longer do.

Jonah Goldberg writes about the Gruberization of the Left and the media:

I've been thinking about this:

Most of us are down. But why?

We should naturally be down if Obama were perverting the American constitutional system and profiting from it. We should be down if Obama enacted a welter of socialist policies and the economy boomed anyway, thus suggesting to voters that socialism "works."

We should be down if Obama imposed a socialist health care system on the country and our countrymen enjoyed the tyranny.

But they don't.

At every single pass -- the economy, Iran, IS, Obamacare, immigration -- Obama and the left are being discredited, and not just slightly discredited, but discredited to a Carter-like degree.

Possibly discredited for 20 or 30 years.

We should not be so down.

We do not like what this monster is doing to America, of course.

But he is not succeeding. He is failing, and failing hard.

And he will bring the Democrat Party and the media with him as he falls.

2 Agreed. This has been a golden age for conservative media.

Taking down the ProgMedia and building up the conservative alt-media is a noble task.

And it's fun. We get to pick fights with the progs.

And those of us smart enough to ply our trade in conservative alt-media actually get to make some money, too.

13 anyone mind if I post this again..? from Legal Insurrection:
Last night, the President did more than bring illegal immigrants "out of the shadows" with his executive order. With the stroke of a pen, he made it harder for law enforcement officials to protect Americans from illegals who stick their heads out of the shadows to commit violent crimes.
As part of his executive order, President Obama suspended the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Secure Communities program. Secure Communities required the FBI to automatically send the fingerprints of anyone arrested by state or local police to DHS for a cross check; DHS could then screen the arrestee to see if the person was either a criminal alien, or someone who fell under civil immigration enforcement priorities.

But not yet.

We are down because of 2012. Spare me the it was stolen voter fraud it is the fault of the Republicans who stayed home.

It shouldn't have been close. It shouldn't have been anywhere near close. And yet and yet and yet.

We are down because Lerner isn't in jail. Neither is Holder. Neither are any of those who pulled off the Solyndra scam.

I could go on and on and on but it is not unreasonable to be down.

I remember the crowing about the Permanent Republican Majority around here in 2004. Hell, I remember partaking in it.

Now that my sweetness and light credentials have been buffed, I will say that the massive, massive rejection of Democrat rule on the state level is very encouraging indeed.

19 I'm down because while they've been discredited, they are being discredited to only the people paying attention...and that's a shrinking minority.

Who cares if Obama is "on record" (to use McConnell's favorite phrase) if no one out there cares because to do so would mean giving up comfort and benefits? It's easier for people to plug their ears rather than confront an awful truth.

Yeah. He's discredited. The Dems are discredited. And yet they still seem to get a good deal of what they want in the end. In that poll, it's not like the GOPe is going to look at it and suddenly say "hey, that's all we need to know to fight for a wholesale repeal." It's not going to happen, mainly because I think the GOPe doesn't mind socialized healthcare all that much either.

And that's why I'm down. People are speaking, but not enough, and the powers that be aren't listening anyway.

46 I get what you're saying here, and thanks for the attempt at lifting spirits.

If my primary concern were convincing a majority of the population that socialism makes men equally poor and miserable, I guess I'd see the silver lining here.

Unfortunately, we're teaching them this lesson by actually subjecting all of us to it. So that sort of takes the bloom off of that rose.

And consider this fact: Legalizing millions of new Democrat voters will make the opinion of the majority of the current population irrelevant. So the fact that we're winning a few more hearts and minds matters not one bit -- those few tens of thousands of votes will be but a rounding error compared to the clown car of south-of-the-border socialists that just screeched up to the curb.

But thanks for trying, all the same.

A dangerous question, Ace.

In my case, the "down" comes from watching Choom Boy "fundamentally transforming" the country, and getting away with it.

Y'see, there are laws on the books -- and, of course, the Constitution -- prohibiting much of what he has done. That would stop most Americans, but not him.

Which brings us to Part Two of the reason: we are told that actually holding President Historic FirstŠ accountable for a host of petty violations, misdemeanors, and felonies, would be an act of racism and might cause Bad Optics. The average Joe and Josephine Sixpack would hate us for besmirching this tender Person of Color who has Brought the Nation Together. Worst part? Too much of the clamor to let this Lightworker go about his way comes from people in the media who claim to be Conservative, who have from the start given him a free pass.

And those eunuchs of verbiage are simply echoing the so-called Republicans in Congress, who act as if the way to be the Loyal Opposition is to cave in to an America-hating, budget-destroying, lawbreaking agenda.

In short, people who believe as I do -- and there are more than you might think -- are watching the country -- our country -- circle the drain while its supposed guardians (elected and self-appointed alike) sit idly by.

Other than that, everything's hunky-dory!

Don't take that at face value. The Reds go out of their way to look like they have "mass support," as they put it. 96 Ace - I've always tried to remain optimistic on this board. The GOP and Conservatives (by no means are they always together) are doing well. Not as well as any of us want, but it isn't doom and gloom either.

I'm not even sure we are losing the culture war. If anything, we are storming back. Conservatives have been on the defensive in the culture wars for a long time, but progress is being made. We completely won the message on gun control. I mean we destroyed the left on that. In 20 years, this country has move decisvely pro-gun. Alternatively, and even better, the country was always pro-gun and the law has finally caught up.

On abortion, we are making strides, thanks to technology and science.

On taxes, the conservatives won. We won too big. Taxes are so low, that for half the country, they are basically non-existent. The fight isn't over, but the fight over whether this country likes taxes is - surprise - the country does not.

Work remains to be done. But there is reason to be optimistic.

The GOP is as strong now as ever before.

Be optimisitic. The battle never ends.

So I see more a more racially and ethnically divided America in the future, which is gonna suck. And I see a more socialist America, which is also gonna suck.

What is to be amped up about?

We hear how broken our party is, but it's false, we are the big tent party, or at least we should be. The democrats are so fractionalized with their special interests, and they are only holding any semblance of power because they own all the urban areas. Out side of cities they are a rotting corpse.

yet we lose politically over and over again. we'll get the ACA struck down this time around in the SCOTUS and we'll still lose, we'll fail into single payer or something as an alternative.

What can we do, when our leadership has no credibility and refuses to make the hard choice.

Why do we have to use weasel language to call the president a liar? The post this morning that is getting linked around about not inviting Obama to do the state of the union? It will never happen, they don't have the balls to do it, because their afraid that Chris Matthews is going to accuse them of not respecting the office....well goddammit the president does not respect his own office or oath, what courtesy do we as a party owe him?

I'm not sure I completely agree, but so what? The GOP had the Presidency for a long time, yet the country still moved left. As Madison said, the political power of this country resides in Congress. And Congress has moved to the right. We aren't there yet, but we need Congress to reassert itself. To use the power of the purse, to rid itself of the delegation doctrine. With each election, we get more Congressmen on the right willing to make that happen.

----

I'm not sure I completely agree, but so what? The GOP had the Presidency for a long time, yet the country still moved left. As Madison said, the political power of this country resides in Congress. And Congress has moved to the right. We aren't there yet, but we need Congress to reassert itself. To use the power of the purse, to rid itself of the delegation doctrine. With each election, we get more Congressmen on the right willing to make that happen.
Posted by: SH at November 21, 2014 04:20 PM (gmeXX)"

I also agree I saw an analysis that DailyKos has posted from some GOP analyist. They are forgetting some key things. We will never see this Obama Coalition again in any nearterm election, they will not come out for Webb, biden, Kerry, Clinton the same way. Clintons may have some mojo, but I don't think at the end of the day she is going to run.

Second thing is our week sauce candidates the last two cycles, we had two people with zero will to fight obama, and the Romney had zero credibility on the single biggest thing we were running on, the ACA.

These two items skew any prognostication of the GOP never being viable nationally.

No problem. Hey, I live in CA, which I've seen degenerate from a prosperous, happy, world-beating conservative state to the leftist-infested train wreck that it is today. But after years of observation in Berkeley I understand quite well how the Reds operate. Seriously, next time you see some Commie flyer, investigate who exactly is behind the "Working Mothers for Peace, Justice and Equality," the "Coalition Against Racism and War," "Albino Zoroastrians for Social Justice," and all the other signatories who endorse the flyer. You'll find it's the same people, playing different roles. It's how Reds garner so many awards and honors; Whitaker Chambers told us: they spread Reds out between organizations, and then orchestrate awards for each other to enhance their prestige and credibility to the gullible.

Homework assignment: look up the "New Press" (anything with "new" in its name is even money to be a Red front). Note how many of their authors are listed as "award-winning." Then track down who gave them the awards. Prepare for the scales to drop from your eyes.

184 But, Ace, he ***IS*** succeeding. I am originally from California. I have followed the immigration debate closely since 1986, when I honestly thought the bill would really help illegal immigration. I now live in Virginia. California went from a great state to a third world hell hole. One out of every two kids in the state now has a parent born in a foreign country. And NO, they are NOT "natural conservatives." They believe in big government, and no one has bothered to assimilate them into American culture. The parents are usually hard working, at least, if liberal, but the kids are ghetto trash. Look at how dark blue California is. That's what immigration will eventually do to the entire US.

Why do you think North Carolina is so difficult for us now? 8.7% jump in Hispanics in the last 12 years. Virginia? 8.4% Colorado? 21%

You are going to have millions and millions of them voting. They are directly competing with folks without a high school education, and decimating wages.

Which makes our native folks dependent on government, because they can't support themselves without help. Those folks know they are being hosed, and are right of center, but they'll take the "disabled" social security or unemployment or whatever benefits they can since they have to eat.

I could literally write hundreds of pages about how bad the effects are, starting with how illegals distort congressional districts in reapportionment even if the DON'T vote. And don't get me started about how much this will increase government spending.

I don't see the public waking up fast enough to stop the slide. By the time the LIV wakes up, it's going to be way too late.

Americans have never been that interested in politics. They'd rather think about sports, sex, trivial entertainment figures, church, going out to dinner, or whatever is going on in their personal lives. And that's OK, if you have a small government. To apply the principle I cited earlier today, let's assume that at some future date we are ascendant and have rolled back the Commie crap. Now work backwards: how did that happen? What led to it?

I'll start: after years of banging that chicken, LIVs realize the Left has failed to deliver the goods to the idiots who actually thought they meant well. Blacks realize they've been had, sold out for the Hispanics. Women realize that they've been sold a bill of goods, and that government health care isn't everything they've been told. Legal immigrants (especially Hispanic) realize that they've been hosed by the admission of the illegals. And all groups start to figure out that the media are totally corrupt and complicit.

Hard to imagine right now, isn't it? But 40 years ago, it would have been hard to imagine we'd be in this fix today, too.

And for the first time in my long life, I seriously worry about the future of my kids and the country they are inheriting. I worry that not just the economy, but our freedom, is being crushed for the foreseeable future.

So yeah, I'm down. I can only hope to God that it's just pessimism...

I don't agree on gun control, we lost big time in the north east, those laws will never be repealed. And in NJ with Christie thinking of a run for the WH it's the only reason our laws weren't made worse.

Stopping new laws on the national level is holding the line, Obama still issued executive orders. We're one congressional majority and a mass shooting away from major problems.

At the state level we got crushed.

Not true. If SCOTUS reverses, which they could easily do with a one vote swing -- then the blue states and cities reverse the next day.

The recent blue state gun victories have been court-ordered.

And, statistically, we know there will be several high profile shootings every year. And every time the gun-grabbers will push new laws. Just as they did in NY.

Americans are clearly dismayed at the direction the country seems to be heading, but they are also docile in the face of decline and confused about possible solutions. Hanauer fears mobs heading for the castles of Greenwich and Palo Alto, but America’s disaffected these days are more likely to vent their rage behind closed doors as they shake their fists at Fox News or MSNBC and leave cranky comments on websites such as this one. If there’s a populist threat to the plutocrats, it’s years or even decades away."

251 SH, a huge chunk of Texas Hispanics are native Americans, they have been in the country forever. They aren't illegals/unAmericanized folks. The other big factor is Texas keeps welfare benefits very low, California keeps benefits really high.

This is a rant for another day, but we used to aggressively Americanize immigrants. Business sponsored English classes for workers, taught civics. If they tried that today I am sure they'd be sued. We pushed that this was a melting pot, and if you came here you "joined the club" and adopted our values. Now its a big insult to insist on that.

252 I'd like to be optimistic as that's my default mode, but

this isn't a scheme to legalize 5 million only.

This is the camel's nose that will, well I don't know but I'm guessing once the 5 mil are allowed to prance around home-free,

that the Dims will file a lawsuit claiming some kind of unConstitutional discrimination to get the estimated 30 million illegals legalized.

And yes, at that point, its game over.

That's approximately 10% of the country changed overnight.

All the Republicans can do is ease the velocity of our demise at this point. They can't stop it and they don't want to. Why not? It's what your FSA neighbors stupidly want and what our new feudal lords slyly demand.

The only thing that changes this trajectory is lots and lots of spilled blood - and what comes out the other side of that is likely to not be a positive thing. We already used up all that good fortune and then some back in 1781 and 1865. We won't get a third chance for salvation.

290 Temporary lines on a public opinion poll mean nothing.
The simple fact is that no nation has rescinded universal national healthcare once enacted. Every single other industrialized country has such as system (Taiwan and Switzerland have succcessful systems almost identical to ObamaCare). There is no political momentum in any of those countries to return to the "free market" clusterfuck of private insurance (ask any Canadian if they would trade their system for the pre-ObamaCare US mess and they will laugh in your face).
So the Dems took a short-term political beating to make a historic improvement in the US social safety net, well worth it in strategic terms. Obama achieved what the Dems have been attempting ever since the 1930's New Deal.
The fundamental building blocks of ACA are secure, not even Republicans talk seriously about allowing insurance denial for pre-existing conditions or recission of coverage after premium payments. The ratchet works one way, Republican efforts to prevent same sex marriage have failed completely and embarrassingly (now down the memory hole, of course).
2016 will bring President Hilary, and a Dem Senate. Republican gerrymandering will keep the House R for a while, until demographics overwhelm the R's (old white men are dying off fast, and no other demographic is majority R).
In the bigger picture, the struggle between liberal and conservative will continue forever, because both tendencies are present in all populations and all individuals.
Here in Boulder Colorado, life is good, legal herb and same sex marriage have increased our freedom, not reduced it.

291 my suspicion: Repubs like Boehner and McConnell think that the only choices are slow down the descent into ruin or make a vigorous effort and have the MSM make sure the Dems are back in power after the next election.
If food stamp money were merely frozen at current spending, sooneror later you'd start seeing news coverage ten times a week about poor children all across the country going to bed hungry every night. Think about the reaction in early 1995to the proposal to have the school lunch program only grow 4.75 percent a year instead of 5.25 percent.

At least 40,000 Canadian patients seek health care in the United States every year, and the number is probably underestimated according to many sources, especially in border areas between major metropolitan cities. Consider that even a Canadian premier sought to have heart surgery in Miami, Florida in 2010.

Countless more travel to the U.S. for cosmetic procedures, vein procedures, new and up-to-date technologies and procedures that are performed for hyperhidrosis treatment, cancer care, orthopedics, ophthalmology care (eye care), robotic surgery, infertility care, MRI scans, PET scans and cosmetic dental procedures and dental implants.

305 Yep, no Canadian would dream of the US health care system.

___________--

Canadian patients also face wait times for medical procedures. Nearly 700,000 Canadians are on a waiting list for surgery or other treatments.
A Canadian patient has to wait roughly four months for the average surgical or other therapeutic treatment. Wait times were similar a decade ago - even though the government has substantially increased health care spending since then.
Canadians also lack access to advanced medical technology. Compared to other developed countries, Canada ranks 14th out of 25 nations surveyed by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development in access to MRIs; 19th of 26 for CT scanners; and eighth out of 21 for mammograms.
Canadian women are nearly a quarter less likely to have had a mammogram than are American women.

Danny Williams, the premier of the Canadian province of Newfoundland, traveled to the United States earlier this month to undergo heart valve surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami. With his trip, Williams joined a long list of Canadians who have decided that they prefer American medicine to their own country's government-run health system when their lives are on the line.
But just as American hospitals are becoming popular vacation destinations for about 40,000 Canadians a year, California's Senate is pressing ahead with its effort to make the state's health care system more like the one in the Great White North. The Senate recently approved a bill sponsored by Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, that would install a government-run, single-payer health system in the Golden State. The Assembly will soon consider the measure.

In order to buy votes, POTUS has offered amnesty to 5 million for illegal actions at the expense of the rest of the population who will have to bear the brunt and expense of his generosity. Every other demographic group is looking at this hand-out and asking where is our relief? Where is our pardon from the law? Where is our preferred access to jobs? The GOP response should be that we are dismayed that the POTUS would take such a limited action towards a select few at the expense of so many other Americans that are struggling to find work and make an honest living. We represent ALL Americans that want fair and honest treatment within the laws we have consented to. No exceptions.

I think a way forward is to portray Marxist policies as old, shopworn policies. And yes, you are correct, in Switzerland the national health care works better than in any other western country, which is very telling!

But how can you know it? from your mother's basement all you can do is smoke dope and being fucked in the ass by your faggot lover.

Keep your ghey marriage and drugs, people like you usually do not survive past 40.

346 UNfortunately, he has also brought science down with him. After what NASA/NOAA has done destroying the temperature record--just one glaring example--nothing can be trusted, especially from the i LOVE SCIENCE SEXUALLY crowd.

349 There will be 22 people at the in-laws' for Thanksgiving, all of them leftists. God help/smite me.

No way would I even show up. Family or no family. Yeah, I'm at that stage. Been that way for years ever since one of my wife's relatives hung a sign in her kitchen that read Friends Don't Let Friends Vote Republican. Haven't been back since. I. just. don't. care. They can all FOAD. Liberals now receive my stock answer.....blow it out your ass. Said in a polite manner, of course.

350 We're down because even though he's failing, and the left is failing, it also impacts the United States. Their failures don't occur in a vacuum; America appears weaker to our enemies...and our friend.

The failure has created a Shit Sandwich and we all know we're going to have to take a big ol' bite of that sandwich in order to fix this mess and make it go away.

352 We'll only have three for TG, but in the past we used to spend it at the houses of some liberal friends. Political topics just didn't come up or we skirted past them quickly. Is there anyway you can just say to the 22 other people "Politics are pretty contentious right now. How about if we agree not to discuss them?"

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at November 21, 2014 06:44 PM (RZlSA)

353 Thanks for the optimism, Ace! ...I totally agree with you.

354 His new Mexican-democrat-Americans think he is doing just swell.

Not one of my commie friends is saying anything even slightly negative about their first-among-equals comrade.

We aren't out of the woods yet.

Totally with you on that, but for reasons too long to get into here, it's a "have-to" event. Been living overseas a few years. Anyway, in my view, 2015 will depend entirely on the next few weeks, as your note illustrates.

I've been in a similar situation. The short answer is no. They will take this as a sign of weakness, and since they love browbeating the unbelievers, the more the merrier.......unless you have lots of liquid fortifaction, prepare to be overwhelmed.

360 And he will bring the Democrat Party and the media with him as he falls.

The reason I'm down is due to the distinct possibility that Barry will manage to bring the Republic down with him. Look around and tell me why you're optimistic. Oh sure, the Dems could become radioactive for a few years, but the damage may well become irreversible.

361 My dear Morons and Moronettes, enough of the self-pity. Suck it up, and stop whining.

When I was Commander in Chief of the Continental Forces, during our American Revolution, my beloved troops suffered horribly from frostbite, hunger, thirst, and disease. I cried to see them in such misery. But we fought on -- at least, those of us who didn't desert.

Our Congressmen were also a bunch of unreliable bumblers. They never sent us enough of anything, but we learned to make do with what we had or could scavenge.

I understand your problems with an out-of-control king, but now, you must meet this situation, head on, and prevail.

Encourage one another, and fight for your beloved country.

And, as Sir Winston Churchhill, another shining light in the darkness of war once exclaimed, "Never, never, never give up."
