Happy Friday.

Podcast note: We moved the podcast to a new URL this week, and everything worked right for me except for the iPhone podcast app. If that's where you listen and you don't see this week's episode with ExJon in the episode list, unsubscribing and then re-subscribing should do the trick.

1 Morning!

2 Good Morning Morons. Today is Friday, November 21, 2014. On this day in 164 BC Judas Maccabeus, son of Mattathias of the Hasmonean family, restored the Temple in Jerusalem. This event is commemorated each year by the festival of Hanukkah.

3 Well Pharaoh Bamatutenkaman gave his mass amnesty speech last night. And like all his speeches it is full of lies and red hearings. In addition, this article also grossly underestimates the number of illegals in this country at 11 million. The number is most likely upwards of 30M. And yesterday while sitting in the doctor's waiting room for 2 hours I had to endure all CNN interviewing liberals who spouted one lie after another with no rebuttal. CNN seems to have no problem with a President ruling the country as a self-nominated King; as long as it is a liberal Democrat.

5 The snow level in upstate NY has reached 7 feet in some places. Here we have a pic of two people shoveling snow off of a roof. Obviously this house was not built like the older houses in the area. Old houses were built with steep roofs so that snow would not accumulate like this on the roof. I can say this because these two guys are standing on the roof.

6 King Turd's AG pick will face a grilling over her extensive use of civil forfeiture on people who have not been convicted of a crime.

A boast by President Obama's pick to be the nation's top law enforcement official could come back to haunt her in confirmation hearings before the Senate, where some members object to prosecutors' rampant use of civil forfeiture, a controversial but legal process that can allow citizens' assets to be seized without due process.
When are these stupid reporters going to do a little research, or could this be a case of trying to defend this Holder clone? This process is most certainly NOT legal. When challenged in court judges have ruled that the cops can NOT seize property of people who have not been convicted of a crime. Furthermore, the Supreme Court ruled on forfeiture for CONVICTED criminals. They have never heard a case on use of this unconstitutional practice for people who have not been convicted, indeed, in a lot of cases they are using it against people who have not even been charged.

11 This article about a radiation event at a federal lab in NV stinks to the high heaven. A drum of waste that was being solidified for disposal cracked open because they used the wrong kind of kitty litter? And that was caused by a typo in a policy manual? And it sickened 20 workers from low level exposure to radiation? Low level radiation will not sicken you. It takes a massive dose to make you sick. If they did indeed got sick it was probably from exposure to toxic fumes generated by the heat that cracked the drum.

Noonan:

The Nihilist in the White House
This administration doesn't build, it divides and tears down. Vindication is assumed.
...

Great presidencies have a different one. They expand, move on, reach out.

The future acknowledgment of greatness only follows actual greatness. History takes the long view but in the end relies on facts.

"But history will be written by liberals." Fair enough, and they will judge the president the more harshly because he failed to do anything that lasts. ObamaCare will be corrected and torn down piece by piece. The immigration order will be changed, slowed or undone by the courts, Congress or through executive actions down the road. Keystone will pass and a veto overridden.

And the president has failed liberals through unpopularity, which is another word for incompetence.

Read the whole piece. It's actually really good.

56

I, Barack
The immigration order is an abuse of power that fails as a policy reform.

President Obama's decision to legalize millions of undocumented immigrants by his own decree is a sorry day for America's republic. We say that even though we agree with the cause of immigration reform. But process matters to self-government--sometimes it is the only barrier to tyranny--and Mr. Obama's policy by executive order is tearing at the fabric of national consent.

...

The President's rationale is "prosecutorial discretion," but he is stretching that legal concept beyond normal understanding. The executive branch does have discretion about whom to prosecute. But this typically extends to individual cases, or to setting priorities due to limited resources such as prosecuting cocaine but not marijuana use.

...

How should Republicans respond? They can use their own constitutional powers without falling into Mr. Obama's political trap. Impeachment is a fool's errand that would change the political subject and fail. The power of the purse is an obvious tool now that the GOP will soon control the Senate, but that will require patience and unity to prevail over Mr. Obama's vetoes.

...

The best GOP revenge would be to trump him on immigration. Before Mr. Obama's decree, smart Republicans were discussing a legislative strategy focusing on piecemeal immigration reforms. Separate bills addressing individual problems (border security, agriculture and tech visas) could pass with rotating majorities that show the GOP has immigration solutions of its own. Some bills might get to Mr. Obama's desk, forcing him to reveal his cynical political hand if he uses his veto to block durable reform.

...

The polls show the American people are uneasy about Mr. Obama's unilateral law-making, and liberals should be too. Mr. Obama is setting a precedent that Republican Presidents could also use to overcome a Democratic majority. How about an order to the IRS not to collect capital-gains taxes on inflated gains from property held for more than a decade? That policy would be broadly popular and also address a basic lack of fairness.

Kim Strassel's piece needs to be read in its entirety. It's tongue in cheek snark.

The Next Prez and the Obama Way

Prosecutorial discretion? OK, how about not enforcing the 73,954 pages of tax code?

Date: Jan. 21, 2017

To: POTUS

From: Your loyal and determined GOP advisers

Re: Your First 100 Days.

Hey Boss!

Congrats again (and fab party last night). Eight long years, and a Republican is finally back behind the Resolute desk. Pity about the Senate; Harry Reid is already vowing to shut the place down again. We put your chances of getting your agenda through that chamber in the range of slim to snowball.

...

And here's where it gets sweet. We've been analyzing the Obama team's justifications. Some are p-r-e-t-t-y creative, but they boil down to this: Whenever a law is "unworkable," or inadequately "funded"---and Congress won't do anything---the president gets to act! How is that for new precedent? Think about it. This city has yet to produce a single statute or reg that is "workable" or that has, according to Democrats, enough money. Not a one. Remember that old Imagine Dragons tune, "I'm On Top of the World"? That's you, boss. That's you.

So here's our plan for getting your entire agenda done--all of it!--by May:

Prosecutorial discretion: Love this. Your top item? Cutting taxes. We have two words and one number for you: Tax Code, 73,954 pages. Is there a more unworkable law? ROFL! We've got an executive order ready instructing IRS agents not to enforce the code on any person or company who refuses to pay more than our new rates. Goodbye Alternative Minimum Tax, death tax, capital gains, restrictions on nonprofits. Hello, flat tax on a postcard.

Speaking of taxes, do remember to thank Chief Justice John Roberts for declaring the ObamaCare individual mandate a tax. Not enforcing that one, either! That's O-Care repealed. Check.

And in a few months, when Karl Rove tells us who we need to vote for "or we'll never be able to make a positive impact on Washington," we'll put our heads down again in the next election and vote the same way we always do because "a third party is just not the answer."

147 Thought I'd repost this here from dead thread;

We all know that the borders will be fully secured and sealed missing not an inch, when they decide we need to be kept in.
I
keep saying, all we need do is look at history. People who understand
history understand these things; I don't need to explain them, if you
understand history then you understand what I am talking about. If you
do not know your history, I cannot explain it to you, your only choice
is to learn it or suffer the fruits of your ignorance.

And this
is how it is with society. The problem is that most of our fellow
citizens, remain ignorant and have decided to choose the path set out
for them by the state. They are told endlessly by their peers, by their
teachers, by the media, and by so many others, that the state will fix
these things if only they are allowed the power. And with an ignorance
of history, they vote yes for unchecked state power.
No doubt most Russians in 1917 resigned themselves to things, telling themselves, 'how bad can this be?'.
This
statist takeover of our government and our society is exactly the thing
that the constitution was written to protect against! And it has worked
for many many years, to the great benefit of our people and indeed the
world.
But like anything built by man it is imperfect, and power is a
slippery and subtle thing that some men take upon themselves and must
have over others. And men at the individual level are often weak, and
others very smart and ruthless. This is what happens.

As I said earlier, a terrible day indeed.

172 Brilliant. Instead of having a response ready to go, we get pablum, caution, concern, and unspecified measures to be taken

I posted a thought last night but bear with me while I repeat it.

My opinion...the GOPe is fully on board with this. They WANT amnesty. They just didn't want to do it and take the political heat. So they are happy to have Obama do this and have him become the target, while they sit back and pretend to kvetch about "lawlessness."

So when you see Boehnor, McConnell, and other GOP "leaders" up there, they are Grubering you. They are actually just fine with Obama's actions. They may feel like they have to talk tough for the sake of the troglodytes in the base, but it's all for show.

We knew what Obama was going to do. The WH advertised it. This was no surprise. And yet the GOP can't seem to get its act together on this one stupid low hanging fruit no brainer issue.

Pathetic. The GOP lost my vote after Ryan betrayed us. They've since proven they have no interest in regaining it.

If they squirt it your way
'Cept in the winter, when it's froze
An' it's hard if it hits
On yer nose
On yer nose

Just keep yer nose
To the grindstone, they say
Will that redeem us,
Uncle Remus . . .
I can't wait till my Fro is full-grown
I'll just throw 'way my Doo-Rag at home
I'll take a drive to BEVERLY HILLS
Just before dawn
An' knock the little jockeys
Off the rich people's lawn
An' before they get up
I'll be gone, I'll be gone
Before they get up
I'll be knocking the jockeys off the lawn
Down in the dew

188 With Obama being basically a lame duck notwithstanding his imperial over-reach, I think it behovves us to reflect on him not as an individual but as a construct of his Party and handlers now.

Look at the things he has not achieved thus far and expect them to be accomplished - not just pursued - in the next 10 years. I'm thinking esp of his "domestic armed forces" here. Thats a pipe dream of the Left and they won't stop going for it.

Ya'll can beat your chests about what you'll do if it comes to pass but its all hollow. It has been revealed to be hollow. I grew up amongst radicals and it was a commonplace that you can't push it too fast because the voters and the populace would rip your face off if they weren't ready. Well Hell, looks like they're ready since none of that happened.

They took a fifth of the economy for Obamacare, control your health now, take your kids at will, and now by fiat make whole the illegals amongst us. The chaos from the illegals is a feature - the populace will beg for that domestic armed force to keep them safe.

The MSM paints demands placed on the GOP by conservatives as beneath contempt and lifts up any GOP congresscritter that stays with the MSM/PROG talking points/strawmen arguments. So just do shit GOP... do it because it's the right thing to do.
