Quote of the Day I

"If you want to stretch the powers of the presidency beyond all recognition, to insist "prosecutorial discretion" now means not enforcing the law for millions of people who violated the law by entering the country illegally, and to claim unilateral power to change the makeup of American society in the face of stiff public and Congressional opposition...at least wear a suit jacket, right? This is a special occasion."

-- Jim Geraghty

Quote of the Day II

"Harvard's policy was written by people who think sexual assault is so heinous a crime that even innocence is not a defense."

-- Alan Dershowitz

The Politics of First Names

If you're named Duane, Brent, Darrell or Randy, you're probably a Republican. And if you're a Jasmine, Caitlin, Abigail, or Erica, you probably think Obama is dreamy and guys like Duane, Brent, and Vernon are racist haters.

The Microaggression Farce

There's an slow motion racial Cultural Revolution going on at UCLA. And the administration is backing the student Red Guards. Read the whole thing and weep over the madness.

Finally, on November 14, 2013, the class's five "students of color," accompanied by "students of color" from elsewhere at UCLA, as well as by reporters and photographers from the campus newspaper, made their surprise entrance into Rust's class as a "collective statement of Resistance by Graduate Students of Color." The protesters formed a circle around Rust and the remaining five students (one American, two Europeans, and two Asian nationals) and read aloud their "Day of Action Statement." That statement suggests that Rust's modest efforts to help students with their writing faced obstacles too great to overcome.

The New State Religion: Maryland County Churches Get a Tax Break If They Preach Environmentalism

Roofs, driveways, sidewalks, and parking lots qualify for the "rainwater remediation fee" to "protect the Chesapeake Bay."

Though the O'Malley administration calls it a "fee," it is commonly called the "rain tax" throughout the state. It is wildly unpopular and the promise to fight to repeal the tax was a large factor in Maryland electing Republican Larry Hogan governor this month.

Now Prince George's Country is offering a way for churches to avoid paying the tax, which is estimated to be an average of $744 per year for them - preach "green" to their parishioners.

So far 30 pastors have agreed to begin "'green' ministries to maintain the improvements at their churches, and to preach environmentally focused sermons to educate their congregations" to avoid being hit with the tax, The Washington Post reports.

Contradicting Dianne Feinstein's Sham Report on CIA Interrogation

Shamelessness, thy name is Dianne Feinstein.

I view the report as not only a political document - the latest salvo in the war between Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee and the CIA.

In my view, the war stems from the fact that leading congressional Democrats who were briefed on what the CIA was doing to fight terrorism signed off more or less unquestioningly. But later, when the political climate changed, these politicians tried to claim ignorance.

The CIA, understandably, was unwilling to let them off the hook. Now the Dems will have their revenge. (Republicans on the Committee honorably refused to participate in the farce.)

Our Worst Ex-President

You can blame Jimmy Carter in large part for North Korea's acquiring nuclear weapons, but of course James Earl blames you for making them do it.

Then, last year, North Korea tested a nuclear bomb. Pyongyang had always insisted, including in its talks with Carter, that it sought nuclear energy only for the purpose of generating electricity. Now it changed its tune, asserting that it was entitled to new deference as a member of the "nuclear club." And Carter, too, changed his tune. No longer blaming both sides impartially, he now put the blame squarely on the U.S. and specifically on President Bush. "Beginning in 2002," he wrote in an essay for the New York Times,

"the United States branded North Korea as part of an axis of evil, threatened military action, ended the shipments of fuel oil and the construction of nuclear power plants, and refused to consider further bilateral talks. In their discussions with me at this time, North Korean spokesmen seemed convinced that the American positions posed a serious danger to their country and to its political regime."

He did not mention North Korea's secret nuclear program, to which each of the American actions he decried was in whole or part a response.

36 I put this in the last thread, but it's really interesting. Date rape drugs appear to be largely a myth. A widely believed one.

--
Date-rape drink spiking 'an urban legend'
http://tinyurl.com/yjlh6hj

Nick Ross, chair of the Jill Dando Institute of Crime Science, commented: "There is no evidence of widespread use of hypnotics in sexual assault, let alone Rohypnol, despite many attempts to prove the contrary.

"During thousands of blood and alcohol tests lots of judgement-impairing compounds were discovered, but they were mostly street drugs or prescription pharmaceuticals taken by the victims themselves, and above all alcohol was the common theme.

"As Dr Burgess observes, it is not scientific evidence which keeps the drug rape myth alive but the fact that it serves so many useful functions."

Dr Burgess and his team questioned more than 200 students at universities in London and south east England.

Earlier this year, Australian researchers found that not one of 97 young men and women admitted to hospital over 19 months to two Perth hospital claiming to have had their drinks spiked, had in fact been drugged.

Take a part of the student loan debt service and invest it sensibly, even buy precious metal physical assets, classic cars, or ammo. Watch it apprecuate for 50 years until retirement.
Or, use that portion to save for the downstroke on a starter home, and start your fsmily. You have a much better chance of reaching double digits of kids if you start young.

There are many opportunities available that do not require a
liberal-arts degree, but do require schooling and intelligence.
Precision machining, for instance, requires some ability with math. CNC
programming requires both the ability to visualize a process in 3D and
break it down in efficient ways. Hell, I understand that you can
currently make a mint doing industrial glassblowing.

Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at November 19, 2014 10:29 PM (F2IAQ)

The correct answer is:

"Yes, of course, the climate is changing. It always has and it always will.

"Going forward, there are only two possibilities. Either the climate will get warmer or it will get cooler. The one thing we can be certain about is that it will not stay the same.

"Looking at history, warmer climates are beneficial for people. They enable longer growing seasons, and people can spread out and colonize new lands.

"Cooler climates have historically been linked to crop failures, starvation, and mass death."

So I wonder if 'groupies' that had sex with him did so more with the expectation that he would grease skids for them than just to know/say OMG I slept with Bill Cosby. And especially if he led them on a bit and then they never got any introductions or whatever they all feel cheated and then rationalizing their behavior over decades they have convinced themselves that "no I didn't drink too much and jump in bed based on some lying hints, he must have drugged me"

If the theory is true, then in today's femi-nazi culture Cosby would gain nothing in court of public opinion by saying so, he is better off letting folks either think "oh no Dr Huxtable would never have drugged anyone and taken advantage of them" or "I knew it, Cosby is just another Hollyweird scumbucket"

227 How do they think farriers shape horseshoes, when they shoe a horse?

Posted by: nerdygirl at November 19, 2014 10:28 PM (uumvJ)

They don't think. They are possessed with the idea that Dick Cheney and George Bush blew up the twin towers, that no jewish people died on 9/11 because the Bush administration warned them ahead of time, the Pentagon was blown up and there was no airline involved and Flight 93 stopped at an airport, dropped all the people off at a hanger where they were given new identities and lots of cash to be quiet(or they were killed by gas is the other version) and a bomb went off in Shanksville.

So you have someone on DU, likely with a $240,000 degree from some leftist college in political science, human ecology or some such drivel, who thinks they have stumbled onto what really happened and it is proven because chicken wire, a staple fire pit retainer of the ages, doesn't immediately melt when a container of kerosene(diesel fuel) is lit and doesn't crash into a pancake when a five pound concrete paver is placed on top.

I thought another funny comment was that if one takes an aluminum can, puts kerosene in it and it doesn't fly, that doesn't mean flight is impossible.....

So essentially I am paying 30 grand this year for the boy to be treated like he is a Freshman in High School to take review classes that he could have passed as a Sophomore in HS..... with a side of Institutional Food Explosive Diarrhea.

Perhaps the best option is to punt -- have the kid do a "Wanderjahr" ( http://tinyurl.com/ny3b4pn ). I don't know. But investing in a non-STEM degree seems like a bad choice, and doing it with borrowed money seems worse.

Over the next few years I came to realize how badly I'd been manipulated, and to resent it very, very much.

Posted by: Captain Whitebread at November 19, 2014 11:29 PM (Pd9h2)

Actually......I'd recommend against "learning a trade", but wholeheartedly for going to the local technical college. Traditional trades -- with apprenticeships, journeymen, and master-level tradesmen -- are a large part of the reason that practical knowledge has a bad rap....because they're fundamentally political entities. The way to get around such regimentation is to take the skills from the trades, and apply them to areas outside of their original usage. For instance, some folks around here took forced-air HVAC knowledge and applied it to making industrial cleanrooms for semiconductor manufacturing and made BIG BUCKS for a couple of decades. If they haven't retired, they're probably bidding on biohazard containment facilities for Ebola today.

Similarly, 3D printing works a lot like CNC milling....but wasn't very available 10 years ago. The more you can join skills A and B from activity Alpha with skill C from activity Beta and skill D from activity Gamma, the more you can demand a premium for your services.

359 So there's been a lot of talk about SJWs in the news as of late. These are the Social Justice Warriors. They are the folks that make up all the PC crap and then call you a racist/homo-phobe/misogynist when you break their arbitrary rules. So the folks that jumped all over the comet scientist about a shirt were SJWs. The folks that took sides over the young lady being catcalled in New York were SJWs. The folks on the other side of ?#?Gamergate? are SJWs. Believe it or not a lot of the folks that like to bash professional sports are ... yep SJWs.
In some cases they are right about things like not beating your wife is a good thing but then it always has to go to the extreme. An extreme to me is condemning an entire culture like pro sports, the gamer community, or men as homo-racistgynists or whatever.
SJWs have a hierarchy of correct thought. Group X's grievances are more grievous then Group Ys. That hierarchy shifts from week to week depending on the cause of the day. Not all SJWs can keep up with which outrage is more outrageous than the other outrage as things change. Since SJWs don't recognized venial sins or believe in forgiveness this can lead to some pretty fun shenanigans.
For instance the young lady being catcalled in NY city. Many people questioned if much of what happened in that video was actually harassment. A lot of guys just said hi to her. I think if a reasonably attractive man walked around a bunch of drunk women at a bachelorette party he would experience something similar. Some of the guys did seem genuinely creepy and aggressive which led people to ask why she would walk through a bunch of street scum wearing tight jeans and by herself.
This debate was a very hot SJW issue for exactly 24 hours.
It took about a day for a brave SJW to notice there weren't enough white men in the video. Now normally too many white men is a bad thing but in this case correct thought specifies exactly how many white men should dance on the point of a needle and the count was off. So the whole thing degenerated into accusation and renunciation while the rest of us enjoyed the LULZ.
Another fun debate happened early this year out east. I'm too lazy to look this one up but I think it was Connecticut or somewhere nearby. A group of RadFem SJWs organized a conference. When the TransGen SJWs heard about the conference and demanded entrance the RadFems insisted that they were not allowed because their vjjs weren't anointed by Gaii or something. So the TransFems being mature adults organized their own club house to hang out in. JK they got paint and gratified the hall where the RadFems where meeting.
See how much fun this is? Search Youtube there's dozens of face to face confrontation between different SJW subgroups about who's grievances are the BFD. Then get popcorn and sit back. It's more fun to watch then the Smokey and the Bandit with a bottle of Jameson to boot.
So this wackiness all really outgrowths of revolutionary thought and/or mind control. To gain power over a person you first destroy their sense of self. You are no longer you but rather you are part of a larger group identity. The arbitrary and capricious rule changes are there to continue to destabilize your own sense of self and force you to expend all of your thoughts on remaining on the righteous path.
Just for good measure we can throw severing all ties with familiar support outside of the group identity you are expected to assume. Churches, families and friends who do not belong to the group identity are sinners and must be shunned. I would be surprised if there isn't rampant denunciation of backsliders as well for real or imagined sins.
This is what cults do, this is what revolutionary movements do (I can provide some sources), this is what abusive spouses do and this is what SJWs do. The second to last is I could write a book on myself.

My guess is they are still in the protection racket Torque. They don't want the people to see the farce, he wouldn't even give a speech except he wants to do it for Univision. Its not for white people or black people consumption.

Or perhaps it's because the alphabets are (noisy
professions of being selfless servants of the public good
notwithstanding) just a bunch of cynical, profit-seeking, bottom-line
focussed businesses.

Who make their money providing the public with stuff the public want to watch.

Obama was new and thrilling once. The ratings for the pilot were the highest ever recorded. Now he's a rerun.

Old and busted. Stale. Shopworn. Past his best-by date.

If people don't know about it, one cannot draw conclusions from their lack of response, right?

Oh, and we live in a republic, right? So there's some sort of formal, legal opposition, right? Anybody care to hazard a guess as to their response? I mean, beyond a lawsuit. Coming back due to speed, dark, drunk or all three he crashed into the rocks on the shore of his island and killed himself. Police say it looked like he tried to pull himself up the rocks to get to his house but died of his injuries. SiL went out (as in away from the house) looking for him, never dreaming he was essentially right in their yard. She's really upset about this but it wouldn't have made any difference as the crash killed him, not exposure.

As I predicted, obamite garbage pickers, pushing stolen shopping carts, came thru and took all the metal cans from the designated containers, before pick up days.

So now I'm paying more for a separate entity to not recycle the non existent metal, and the obamites get the value of the cans.

452 Friend guest lectures at a large state univ. in a large city in a large state (CA). Highlights:

* is treated as freak/leper by faculty since he is not a moonbat, and actually has real-world experience in field he teaches (foreign policy), has top ratings on student evaluations, received special grass-roots award from students

* the predominance of extreme, vapid, radical faculty is sick-making to a taxpayer - the pay and benefits these worthless freaks pull down are insane (and multiples of those that went to their far superior predecessors just a generation back)

* regularly has students (seniors) come to him to thank him for being first teacher to 1) teach them to think and reason through an argument 2) write 3) not preach to them

This is why an aware and perceptive person has trouble being optimistic today. The degradation of everything that matters is all-encompassing. Ninety percent of my acquaintances my age are unfit to vote - uninformed, misinformed, corks on a bobbing seaof socially-determined proper bigotries and orwellian info distortion. Their kids? I was essentially a "red-diaper" baby, though my parents weren't aggressively political -- just extremememememememely left-wing by default, as a matter of course.

But they were also totally amoral, and pretty close to the worst parents ever.

My moral system developed by using my parents as "negative examples" -- I learned what was right and wrong by observing what they did, and noting that down as "wrong" in every instance. So I would do the opposite.

So I grew into a fiercely moral person -- way out in extremism-land morality-wise. I had (and have) absolutely no patience, sympathy or tolerance for immoral behavior.

Even so, it's hard to shake off the political orientation one's surroundings impart into one in childhood, so I was a sort default leftist myself, until, say, right around the mid-'90s. I think the first crack in my leftist armor was the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, when my fellow feminists defended him and attacked her, exposing their hypocrisy for the world to see.

The next fissure was the WTO riots in Seattle in 1999. I knew many people who participated, and when I later discussed things with them, they revealed total, utter devastating ignorance about even fundamental facts concerning economics and globalization and so forth. I got into some heated arguments with them and lost key friendships -- and also started to change my outlook.

But the final straw came on 9/11 -- that totally flipped me from left to "right" (well, not really "right," because 9/11 erased the era of the left/right dichotomy, but that's a different story).

Actually, it wasn't 9/11 that flipped me, but 9/12 -- the day that the leftist narrative/response to 9/11 emerged, in which America was painted as the villain and/or as the deserving victim. I realized on that day that leftists were all completely insane. Just, flat-out psychotic.

And every day since then, I've come to realize little by little that their ideology was actually evil.

Not that I was ever a "communist" myself, but rather just another ignorant fellow traveler who would have shrugged and thought it was "cool" if the US had gone socialist.

I now think that it takes at least 35 or 40 years of life to even get to Square One of the knowledge needed to have a rationally formed political opinion.

=========
Obviously age brings wisdom, but wisdom can also be taught.

We are a knowledge-based culture. We rarely even think about or understand wisdom-based cultures. Father Michael Oleksa (try google, you'll find him) understands the differences and can explain them well. He is a Russian Orthodox priest and a little left, but has an excellent mind. I recommend spending a little time listening to what he has to say about cultures.

One of the examples he uses in his descriptions is that our knowledge-based culture came to the conclusion that there should be a biology building and a chemistry building on college campuses. He points out that this subdivision of knowledge is misleading because these subjects are so interlinked. A wisdom-based culture wouldn't get quite so confused by the subdivision.

Anyway, wisdom-based cultures teach wisdom. It can be taught. Age helps, of course, because it also turns out that the elders are the most important people in wisdom-based cultures. However, that doesn't mean that our knowledge-based culture would not benefit from paying some more attention to wisdom and how to teach it.

Also, note that the people in the conversation above that are the most screwy are the PhDs who have studied more-and-more-about-less-and-less. In other words, they have pursued knowledge to the exclusion of all wisdom. They are now truly fucked up and pathetic.

I would say that there is a combination of two things: (a) adding value, and (b) monetizing contributions -- that forms the basis of conservative thinking. Farmers do both -- they start out with dirt and, through their efforts and investments, bring in a crop; then they take their crop to market and have to monetize it against a wide variety of other crops.

I keep wondering lately, whatever happened to that awe inspiring place. When I see or hear barry soetoro, I keep imagining what would have happened to such a grifter had he and those behind him ever tried to steal control of that amazing powerhouse nation.

I say "might" because the most important use of his lectures is to try to help typical Americans to understand native cultures. If you have never encountered any people from those cultures or are uninterested in their culture it will probably be a waste of your time.
However, if you have an interest in the differences between a knowledge-based (which your response demonstrates that it applies to you) and a wisdom-based approach you might want to check him out.

It's taken a long time to come to this conclusion, but, I think it's an apt analogy. It's really a mixture of dozens of different (and sometimes competing) tenets, but, with a solid foundation in marxism/internationalism. The best comparison is with the branch that is environmentalism... that so obviously mimics religion. But, it's not alone. The toxic mix is inherently faith based, it no longer operates on actual principles and established theory ( a la communism, socialism alone). It is now pure faith in the great "it"... and that the world is corrupted by the "evil ones" who should be smited by a great reckoning that will sweep the earth in a great purge of the unjust... etc etc. By. Any. Means. Necessary. They're not gonna wait on Gaia or Barry or whomever to do it. It's not a coincidence that this has happened ... again... at the turn of another millenium. Politics and relgion has been replaced by... another form of religion and politics. One of destructive reckoning.

498 I would say that there is a combination of two things: (a) adding value, and (b) monetizing contributions -- that forms the basis of conservative thinking. Farmers do both -- they start out with dirt and, through their efforts and investments, bring in a crop; then they take their crop to market and have to monetize it against a wide variety of other crops.
Posted by: cthulhu at November 20, 2014 02:21 AM

Funny you say that. One of the motivating factors in me starting farming was the idea that I was doing something that was contributing/adding to society. Not from a leftist perspective but from a Baptist/Christian perspective.

Another factor (fit me w/ a tinfoil hat) was that there might be a nuclear war and that the farm would safe place for family and friends to retreat to.

Hmmm, that was the feeling then, but it left after Reagan's terms and GHWB was president when it all fell down.

Why do I feel today that has all gone to shit? We are again at threat of nuclear war. Thanks for your latest contribution to this clusterfuck
Barcky.

The Left all have their version of "god"

The Jacobins worshiped the Volonté générale, the NAZI's had "Die Volk," Communists have "The Proletariat," &c., &c.

In all cases they tend to worship a collective entity with an individual will that is separate and distinct from the individuals will of the people that make it up... like the Borg or Voltron (the vehicle one, not the cool GoLion one).

Also, in all cases, only the chosen few can divine this "General Will"

And all the "Social Justice" writings and journals?

They are but catechisms of a secular faith.

Unless you are getting a STEM+ degree, there are only two reasons to get a college degree:

1st. It is expected to have a degree, and a lack of a degree will hurt you. It has become a prerequisite much like a high school used to be.

2nd. The real benefit of college is networking. It is not what you know, but who you know.

On the later point, the time when smart and capable people ruled the roost and reproduced is over. Now the bigwigs are the scammers and worms who trick other people out of their money (e.g. Gruber).

*sigh*

That may be true, but, I've sorta come to the conclusion that this is different. It may have been established to be so.Those prior dudes had a particular focus... a goal, principles and so forth. This thing is a different animal. It's just the "divine" retribution. The various ideologies involved aren't particularly important... They've all coalesced into a mutant religion ofarson.

Human beings are religious animals. There are scant few who are true atheists.

Since Christianity is damned by the Left, becoming a follower of a Leftist belief system fills the void left by so-called "atheist" parenting.

In Europe, having gone through the falseness of fascism and communism, more readily accepts Islam:

510 That name thing is interesting. First off, there doesn't seem to be one as far right as there are far left, in fact there is nothing but a blank page all the way to the right but all the way to the left is pretty well populated, mostly by female names. Second the left ones tend to be female and the right ones tend to be male. In fact you have to scroll about halfway back on the right list to find a female name, and that name is...Tammy. Also, the spelling of the name matters, Darrell is way farther to the right than Darryl, but Erica is only a little more leftist than Erika. Willie is on the list twice, but both are left wing pinkos so they might as well be the same.

The President has determined to invoke Executive Action in response and in aid of disadvantaged students, students of gender objectification and the Middle Class, instructing prosecutors nationwide that she is a walking and talking micro-aggression and no resulting violence should be criminally prosecuted. Instead, after they leave the hospital, victims of violence should have the opportunity to apologize to those whom they triggered.

566 Yeah, there's plenty to fisk in that Morgan article. It's a lot of legal posturing, nothing more.

567 I liked it better when the President was merely "disappointed" in American government. That was much better than the "overthrow" he's taken to now.

568 556 I just read about half of that article on microagression and now I feel stupid and my head hurts.

They mention that Fendus Watson or whatever the name was of the ringleader "of color," went on to "teach" his microagression nonsense at St.Louis University. Wasn't that the school that was handing out tips to students who want to protest the Ferguson decision? My daughter was offered an almost full ride there. Thank God she chose otherwise.
