Vermont Halts Payment to Jon Gruber

Vermont had been paying Gruber major bank to advise them on how to implement deceive their citizens into implementing a single payer health care system.

The videos of Gruber's boastful mendacity have made these payments a hot potato of a political issue -- and now Vermont is stopping further payments.

On Wednesday, Lawrence Miller, chief of health care reform for the Gov. Peter Shumlin administration, announced that Vermont would stop payment of Gruber’s $400,000 contract with the state.

As of this week, Vermont has paid Gruber $160,000 on a contract that began July 21 and was expected to continue until Feb. 15.

29 I think his colleagues continue to get paid.

Gruber has been paid $160,000 so far, which Miller said is split roughly 50-50 between Gruber and his team of research associates.

Those associates will continue to be compensated for their work, and the state anticipates paying them $120,000 more through the life of the contract, while Gruber agreed to let the state keep his half, Miller said.

39 From the link:

At the center of Gruber's work is a series of number-crunching scenarios generated using the proprietary Gruber Microsimulation Model (GMSIM), which reportedly shares similarities with the model used by the federal Congressional Budget Office, but which has been criticized for leaving out critical information.

Also according to contract data from the Agency of Administration, in 2011 the state of Vermont paid Gruber and health policy analyst Steven Kappel $355,600 for work relating to the "Hsiao Report", an influential document from which Vermont's single-payer health care law was drafted. Although the report was named for headlining expert William Hsiao, the Harvard University economist refused to be paid his work, leaving the contract money to be split among Gruber, Kappel and various assistants.Gruber's baseline analysis using the GMSIM alone cost the state $20,000.

68 Linked to this interview of Gruber done by MIT News--"How Jonathan Gruber became Mr. Mandate" a few days ago and I was going to quote this one section but decided against it.

Well now it seems to fit.

I don't think he ever changed from this original position even if he pretends to be The White Knight.

Gruber, a professor of economics at MIT, cares intensely about health care as a social issue. But once upon a time-- the 1980s, to be precise-- Mr. Mandate had no interest in the subject. As an undergraduate at MIT, "I didn't know I was going to do economics, Gruber says. Instead, he says, he was a "money-uber-alles" --money over everything--person, detached from civic issues.

Besides that, most Americans are so economically illiterate they don't even know how and why O-care is a disaster, or what the existing system's problems were.

He admits his intention was to obfuscate--a law that bypassed the House and the representatives closest to the electorate and then he has the audacity to call people trying to scrape together a living so that they can keep their families healthy--that might be too busy to read the 1,000 plus pages of the ACA --

People have learned to get around the networks and find out what is really happening in the country.

A couple of years ago the black out worked and no one heard the real story, but I think the reality of the corruption has broken through, and now people search for real news rather than take what the networks offer.

As for Roberts needing "cover", whatever. Guy is such an idiot, impossible to predict the lame reasoning or rationale he will pick on any given day to avoid work or responsibility.

Roberts is actually a more ridiculous figure than the affirmative action cretin Sotomayor, or the creepy fascist alien Ginsburg, or the delusional arrogant clueless psycho Bryer. Recall his you're-kidding-me-he-really-said-that? moment when (in writing!) he said that SCOTUS' job was not to save the American people from the consequences of elections. Add that to his bizarre, inappropriate and mysterious obsession with the court's "stature" as an institution, and he if the perfect leader of a discredited and unserious court.

My last cruise on the dear old Forrestal we had an inport in Valencia Spain and Greenpeace came out to demonstrate the "nuclear powered" carrier Forrestal, crammed to the gills with nuclear weapons don'tcha know (even though Pappy Bush had taken them off carriers after the evil empire fell). They tried storming the gangplank, much to the anticipation of the Marines, but were repulsed by bos'ns bearing firehoses. They did get a rock or two on the flight deck...which we returned, with interest, having the assistance of gravity on our side.

yeah, we were in trouble for that for a while. *shrugs* kinder gentler Navy...bah!

If you ever get asked the vague but morally-charged question “Do you believe in climate change?” someone is trying to put something over on you.

Here is a graph comparing CO2 emissions, the alleged climate danger, to the number of climate-related deaths, which reflects actual climate danger to humans. It’s striking—as CO2 emissions rise, climate-related deaths plunge.

272 I watched a couple of hours of Cosby stand-up stuff the other night on YouTube. Funny shit; it holds up after all these years.

Do I think there's something to the recent allegations? Maybe. If so, there's a quart of honey & a pack(? what does one call a Horde of fire-ants?) in Cosby's near future. I'll drive.

I'm "wish-casting" that it's not true. I've been a Bill Cosby fan since the late '60's.

273 This is a big deal in the Hollywood community. Sort of like an open secret. Remember how powerful Cosby was...you didn't cross him or the powerful networks he worked for if you knew what was good for your career. It's all about the cash cow people.

275 249 Following the link to the 2012 Forbes article: The Gruber Microsimulation model (GMSIM) that was the foundation of both the legislation and the CBO scoring did not (could not) include consideration of the costs of the pre-existing condition coverage. This was what was being debated as being the most important cost-driver both in near term (uninsured) and long term (encouraging adverse selection). The sophisticated model effectively scored this provision as cost neutral.

He was releasing a new book recently and the interviewer apologized and then said he had to ask him about the allegations. He did and Cosby refused to answer. The silence was damning.

282 Just as an aside for any car guys who did not already know it:

In 1967, Bill Cosby bought a Shelby Cobra Super Snake CSX 3303 from his friend, company founder Carroll Shelby. The CSX 3303 was one of two Super Snakes built, which is a modified 1965 Cobra Competition roadster retained by Shelby American as a PR car and then modified with the addition of two superchargers and a Ford C-6 automatic gearbox. Of the two cars built, one was retained by Shelby and the other was sold to Cosby.

311 Wanted to comment on the post about Ace's health: I highly, highly recommend Austin Air HEPA filters. They are not cheap (although I got most of mine on Craig's list). The filters are expensive ($200) but last five years. They really do clean the air. There's a lot of air pollution in the city and they will help with that. The clean air will help your lungs heal. I have one that follows me from room to room. It's in my home office in the day, and moves to the bedroom at night. They are a bit noisy on the high speed, but really can push air through them. I vacuum the pre-filter out monthly and replace it once a year.

I have the equivalent of smoker's lung due to an allergy to bird dander. The Austin Airs help me breathe.

No, I haven't seen it, and it didn't start with Hollywood.

My boss has been saying for years that for most of history, actors, artists, and musicians have mostly been considered gutter trash. They may have been talented, but their morals were often suspect.

Someone around here says the same thing. I'm thinking D-Lamp or Costanza Defense.

Only in the 20th century did the new technology of recordings and movies make them into famous, wealthy, and influential figures.

It's appalling how many LIVs parrot the ignorant political blatherings of their favorite celebrities.

So, assuming consensuality (for the benefit of the doubt): what gets me about all of this is just the fact of him being a skeezeball for so long, while he's been preaching at everyone else. And this IS a fact that he's been a cad, at the very least. If he hadn't touched these women, it would be easy enough to say "I ain't even seen these b!tches in my life". The winter was just amazing for me. I've never been in cold like that. We went ice fishing which was fun.

Heh. We get ready to drive out onto the lake where the cabin is. Buddy stops his truck and starts rolling down his window.

"What the fuck are you doing dude? It's like 10 degrees."

"Shut up and roll down your window."

"Why???"

"So if we go through the ice, we have a way out. You won't be able to open the door."

367 Our views of what is appropriate regarding sex has changed. Men have jumped women's bones since the beginning of time. It is especially prevelent in Hwd to this day. Do I think he drugged them to have sex? No. Do I think they willingly took drugs and had sex? Yes. They all claim to have taken pills without question which is bullshit. Someone said three of them had the Some one said flu and that is why they took the pills. I say more bullshit. When you have the flu, you don't have people you barely know around. And even with the flu, you stll don't swallow any pill. What nonsense. The way I look at it they wanted something from him, they were partying, they got high and drunk, sex happened, and then he dumped them. Feelngs were hurt.

Justinian married Theodora, an actress from the stage. This was a HUGE scandal in the Orthodox Christian Romania. Procopius the historian wrote a whole book about what a slut she was. It was almost all of it made up of course (Theodora never cheated on hubby, so, she was likely NOT promiscuous). But just by the fact that Theodora had been an actress once, Procopius knew that his audience would assume the worst.

374 From the Forbes 2012 article:

The money paragraph in Gruber's report to Colorado comes on page 14.

[...]

(Gruber) It is important to recognize some limitations in our modeling of prices. In particular, given publicly available data we cannot incorporate the effects of the ban on pre-existing conditions exclusions. This ban will cause a rise in premiums as insurers are forced to cover conditions that they had previously excluded. In addition, there are new premium taxes on insurers that will raise premium rates....Overall,we cannot predict the net impacts of these factors on premiums without more analysis.

Posted by: Mike Hammer,

1967. I'm a senior in high school. I have a buddy whose big brother works at the local GM plant in Arlington, TX. Big bro gets a new 427 Vette. It was the wimpy 390 horse base model.

Little bro gets to take it out and picks me up. He stops on a residential street to "peel out" if you are old enough to remember that term. This is an asphalt street, 28 feet wide, with big 50's and 60's cars parked on both sides of the street.

Little bro stomps on it, drops the clutch and and a tremendous roar joined by smoke and screeching begins. I get a merry-go-round sensation smoke is everywhere. Little bro backs off and the Vette shakes to a halt. The smoke clears and we are facing in the opposite direction from whence we started. The vette did a 180 in about 18 feet of space without hitting anything. We gathered some respect for the vehicle's power at that point.

410 Date-rape drink spiking 'an urban legend'
http://tinyurl.com/yjlh6hj

Nick Ross, chair of the Jill Dando Institute of Crime Science, commented: "There is no evidence of widespread use of hypnotics in sexual assault, let alone Rohypnol, despite many attempts to prove the contrary.

"During thousands of blood and alcohol tests lots of judgement-impairing compounds were discovered, but they were mostly street drugs or prescription pharmaceuticals taken by the victims themselves, and above all alcohol was the common theme.

"As Dr Burgess observes, it is not scientific evidence which keeps the drug rape myth alive but the fact that it serves so many useful functions."

Dr Burgess and his team questioned more than 200 students at universities in London and south east England.

Earlier this year, Australian researchers found that not one of 97 young men and women admitted to hospital over 19 months to two Perth hospital claiming to have had their drinks spiked, had in fact been drugged.

417 Date-rape drink spiking 'an urban legend'
http://tinyurl.com/yjlh6hj

A study of more than 200 students revealed many wrongly blamed the effects of a "bad night out" on date-rape drugs, when they had just drunk excessively.

Many are in "active denial" that drinking large amounts of alcohol can leave them "incoherent and incapacitated", the Kent University researchers concluded.

Young women's fears about date-rape drugs are so ingrained that students mistakenly think it is a more important factor in sexual assault than being drunk, taking drugs or walking alone at night.

The study, published in the British Journal of Criminology, found three-quarters of students identified drink spiking as an important risk -- more than alcohol or drugs.

Little bro backs off and the Vette shakes to a halt. The smoke clears and we are facing in the opposite direction from whence we started. The vette did a 180 in about 18 feet of space without hitting anything. We gathered some respect for the vehicle's power at that point.

The last "build" I did was stuffing a tricked-out 1970 Mopar 440 into a 1971 Road Runner, bolted to the Mopar "pistol grip" four-speed. We called the car "Vehicular Manslaughter", 'cause someone was gonna die (no one did).

You'd wrap that fcuker up & dump the clutch: you had no idea which direction you'd be facing when it's over.

We got real good at making power, but not real good at managing it. Rev it up, dump the clutch, break the shock mounts off the rear axle. This was before the cell-phone / Internet days, so finding the dude what can weld shit took weeks

Of course, because they are told repeatedly from the time they are children and their schools read them the Kama Sutra, that men are animals and will spike their drink so they can have sex with them fifteen minutes later after they carry them out of the bar and down to steet to their car.
That meme is repeated endlessly today. Go to any gathering of women, particularly at colleges, continuing education classes, even self defense classes and they make it sound like every bar has dozens of men walking around with drugs in their pockets just waiting for you to turn your head so they can drop it in your drink.

I have friends in their fifties who are terrified of having their drink somehow spiked with some funky cold medina so that they will become sexual zombies , zonked out and sexually battered all night. Doesn't matter that they have about zero chance of being targeted by this imaginary handsome man with a pocketful of date rape drugs. I know one who actually pours her drink that she watches being made into a covered container like you use for exercise, car, etc. "Can't be too careful these days.", she'll say.

Women think they can diet all day, eat a piece of cheese and an olive at happy hour, then drink a fishbowl or two of margaritas and stay completely in control. I'm not saying date "rape" or what we used to call being drunk and stupid doesn't occur, it does, and there are those instances where a woman's impaired judgement puts her at risk of getting in a car with someone she just met, etc. But for the most part, I believe that a lot of "date rape" is next day second thoughts and why did I do that. And since no one can take responsibility for the idiot things they do these days, it must have been drugs.

Is anyone else beginning to think that Gruber is just a distraction from the fact that our country is ceasing to be a Republic right before our very eyes as the president crowns himself Emperor and with the sweep of his pen gives several million people who do not have the habits of freedom the right to vote, which will thereby keep the party of the totalitarian left in power? Generally, in the 20th Century totalitarian dictatorships devolved into communist states on a wave of killings and then often kicked back into oligarchies of various flavors and genocides....and wound up winnowing out the competition to become dicatorships again.

Really, the only states that avoided that were Spain, that turned into a banana republic masquerading as a monarchy enroute to being a thralldom to the Eurozone, and Paraguay.

They have had a lot of practice in the land of cartels & killer cops, and they will no doubt be bringing all of this with them.
