I share the same fear, qualitatively, but it's not even close to 10 years away. Much further away. The next 10 years will just be the awesome parts of AI: Doing things for humans in a very narrow way.

The squishy middle of the bureaucracy is actually pretty competent. It's the bottom rungs - which couldn't get a job without some kind of thumb on the scale - and the top - which couldn't get a job unless Daddy donated to the party - that is routinely and roundly incompetent.

If the Smart Set could get past their egos for two seconds they'd realize our biggest objection is to the GOP unilaterally disarming ( not to mention announcing that plan in advance). But it's easier to ignore a reasonable objection and call us deluded.

I don't have much of a bucket list, but I'm thinking about putting this mome on it.
Posted by: Misanthropic Humanitarian at November 19, 2014 09:19 AM (vPh3W)

Lol. Ok, so GGE was in the kilt. After the MoMe "ended", about a dozen of us headed to a bar down the street. Awesome place. Huge, live music, ask AtC about the bachelorette party.

Anywho, we closed the place down. As we're leaving at about 230am, we walk past this group of pop collared, pink shirted brosephs at the front door.

One of them starts laughing, points at GGE and yells "LOOK AT THAT SHIT!! THAT DUDE IS WEARING A SKIRT!!"

I, being of sound mind and body at that point, did what anyone would do.

I bellowed. "IT'S NOT A SKIRT, IT'S A FUCKING KILT, ASSHOLE."

Which led to him and I screaming at each other "SKIRT" "KILT" "SKIRT" "KILT" and we were getting closer to being within grabbing distance.

It was at this point that Weirddave grabbed me and shoved me out the front door.

You know... once the majority of Americans come to embrace this idea that we can just ignore the Constitution (and the logical next step: that we can just ignore the law) whenever it would be detrimental in the short-run to do the right thing instead, I don't think our "betters" are going to like what happens.

It doesn't f*cking matter that "people won't like it." If the correct Constitutional remedy for the rogue executive is a shutdown, the shut it the f*ck down.

Suing the President is *NOT* the correct Constitutional remedy.

259 Why would the MFM give time to Gruber?
He is only copying what they do all day long, all year long.

MFM is saying ... "Gruber? What a stupid amateur. You don't hear our anchors going out and admitting they are con artists, do you?"

260 The NoVaMoMe is a tough crowd. I was wearing a Kwame Kilpatrick "F*** the Rules" t shirt and it brought nary a mention.

261 Like Dr. Hanson, I am in mourning this day, albeit for much less reason and with much less heartache. My dearly beloved '01 Accent (3-door) had a breakdown on Monday, and the diagnosis involves more $$$ than I wanted to spend to keep the old car running. Going out with Dad today to cruise second-hand lots for wheels, thanks to Obummer's economy a new car is not forthcoming for a while...

If I lived in Buffalo all I would need is a sled and a few dogs.

262 These people exist for us to project fantasies onto. So in mine I change Penelope Cruz's politics by doing her from behind while she reads Friedrich Hayek and we end up in a threesome with Salma Hayek.

I am in awe of this.

This statement reminds me of this statement.

"The bomb will never go off. I speak as an expert in explosives." --Admiral William Leahy, U.S. Atomic Bomb Project

Yes, except the difference is, people have been talking about how AI
is going to get smart like people any day now, since about 1955.
Problem is, there is something in people that is not computers. And no
amount of complexity of code or density of transistors can make up for
that.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You mean all those too-smart-to-be-machine monkey boys and girls shuffling along looking at their smart phones, thinking about buying smart cars, spending most of their time linked into the electric world like us? You mean those people, Dave?

Men who wear kilts in public should also wear swords.

Cuts down on the nuisance comments.

266 Because that's just what we need for the next
President-another Harvard Law professor who lied about her background in
order to get into school and who's a millionaire who yammers on about
the middle class whom she understands so well

And this is from the politest moron - just imagine what fun comments will be if Lieawatha actually gets nominated.

268 We don't know how the human brain works and we do know it is something that grows, physically grows.

Physical growth is the key to AI, not programming, not circuit diagrams.
