Jon Gruber Made $6 Million From the American Taxpayer, Advising Government Officials On His Own Plan

Obamacare might have cost you a lot of money, but it's been very good to Jon Gruber.

Byron York writes more about the "Obamacare Profiteers."

The $400,000 paid to him by the Obama Administration was only the beginning of the gravy train.

But after the bill became law, Gruber made a good deal more from it. The Affordable Care Act provided for states to set up exchanges to sell taxpayer-subsidized insurance coverage. For those states that chose to do so, exchanges would have to be built from the ground up. Studies would have to be done. Contracts would be let.

In 2010, the state of Wisconsin, under Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle, paid Gruber $400,000 to do a study of the impact of healthcare refom...

In the two years between March 2011 and March 2013, the state of Minnesota paid Gruber $329,000 to study how to make its exchange conform with Affordable Care Act requirements.

In 2012, the state of West Virginia signed a contract with Gruber to study its healthcare system. "The state will pay MIT professor Jonathan Gruber $121,500 to understand the states health insurance landscape and revisit key assumptions about state health care policy," the Charleston Daily Mail reported in September of that year. "Gruber is a policy rock star of sorts. He's advised more than a half dozen states on health care reform."

In November 2011, the state of Vermont hired a consulting firm that used Gruber to study the state exchange. Gruber was paid at least $91,875 for his work.

In 2012, the state of Michigan included Gruber in a multi-firm, $481,050 contract to study its exchange system. It's not clear how much of that went to Gruber himself.

Ace of Spades: Flu Journal. Day Eight of a miserable flu.

I have light-to-moderate ebola.

BTW: Barack Obama's YouTube channel contains a video of Jon Gruber stating that he is the architect of Obamacare.

So that should end the attempt by the left to claim that only "the right" calls Gruber Obamacare's "architect."

Gallup: Obamacare Falls to 37 Percent Approval. Good.

at about the 33 minute mark--after he has discussed how they might not be able to "control" the cost of ObamaCare (IIRC)--

he talks about controlling PROVIDERS--he has an idea called--

"Prospective Reimbursements"

Basically they pay your provider upfront a certain amount per patient--and what your provider does not spend on you--he gets to keep.

If he decides to run any expensive test on you--he assumes the risk.

Soon there will be very few providers--after that is implemented , imo.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmolioUklXI

(Also he is ripping these kids off--I have no idea how you can consider ObamaCare--"microeconomics.)

125 Weekly Standard with a good Gruber piece.

The CBO Effectively Used Gruber's Model to Score Obamacare | The Weekly Standard:
http://tinyurl.com/ouk59t5

Two well-placed sources on Capitol Hill say that the Congressional Budget Office effectively used Jonathan Gruber's model to score Obamacare. That model favors government mandates over market competition and claims that essentially the only way to achieve a large reduction in the number of uninsured Americans is to impose an Obamacare-like individual mandate. Moreover, because the model that the CBO used in scoring Obamacare is the same one it uses today, any alternative to Obamacare that doesn't include an individual mandate -- which is to say, any conservative alternative -- would be scored by the CBO as falling well short, in terms of coverage numbers, of Gruber's preferred legislation.

170 You all do understand, I assume, that when being paid all this money to be a "consultant," he himself does very little actual "work."

I've worked for big-time consultants. They take that $400,000, and then use half of it to pay underlings (such as I was) to do the actual work. Then we produce the report, and he puts his name on it -- and pockets the remaining $250,000 or whatever.

An absolute scam from top to bottom.

And yes, by the way, the reports are always pre-crafted to reach a certain conclusion. You find out ahead of time what bias or slant the consultant has, and he is GUARANTEED to produce a report with a conclusion pleasing to you. Guaranteed -- that's the reason you hired him, to give the 'stamp of authority" to a decision you already made.

Never once has a consultant ever produced a "surprising" report that didn't match his pre-existing political biases. Never.

They had another "expert" from Harvard McDonough (IIRC) in that ad saying that essentially ObamaCare is RomneyCare--but there is a video of that ass hat at Hostra University--saying that what Romney signed was not anything like how Romneycare eventually ended up because the state legislature added lots of changes--(which this guy probably wanted to take credit for)--and that only a very small part of ObamaCare is like RomneyCare.

Did he say any of that in the ad--however?

Hell no.

--btw I was totally team Perry here till the bitter end--but I abhor bullshit.

It is pretty obvious that just by definition since RomneyCare was only at the state level it would not be 100% like the massive federal plan ObamaCare.

Also--unfortunately RomneyCare was my PRIMARY reason for not wanting to run with Romney.

I was kind of hoping Romney would say--'I made a mistake"--but in politics that is really not feasible.

Hard to admit you were wrong to voters--and the media won't let you do--complicated.

The comfort I take, and maybe it is simply wishful thinking, is that Obama's election and subsequent re-election were more aberrations than a genuine shift in the electorate. 2010 and 2014 support my argument - though it is by no means conclusive.

Obama exploded onto the scene at the opportune time for him with strong tailwinds in his favor and against the GOP (no matter who they ran). Then he fortunately ran into a very weak 2012 field and got the one candidate who could not criticize him effectively on the main issue that mattered.

Honestly, "progressives" are either the stupidest or the most deceitful people in the world. Probably both.

272 If you guys are interested here is that rat bastard McDonough of Harvard giving a lecture at Hofstra University.

I can't remember the section where he goes into the details of RomneyCare v. ObamaCare but--

at about the 1 hour and thirty minute mark it gets pretty interesting because the audience kind of rips him a new one.

One of them is an Obama Care navigator--because she unwittingly informs him of the "realities" on the ground.

Or the realities he damn well knows about--but the publics should not.

Basically you can insure everyone--you just can't get them access.

Also one guy says that urgent care is wiping private practices out of business and McDonough just calls question time--over.

no other country on the planet."

A few things I noted back when the left were whipping up their big public relations push about how U.S. healthcare supposedly is for shit.

-- They quote infant mortality statistics without noting that the U.S. uses for itself a different, and stricter, standard for this than just about anyone else in the world.

-- They quote adult mortality statistics that have nothing to do with the medical system, like gunshot victims and car wreck victims who are dead on arrival. Hey, guess what? Americans spend a ton more time behind the wheel than do Europeans. Hence, more motor vehicle accident mortality. Likewise with gun deaths. Not the fault of the U.S. medical system, thanks.

-- They ignore comparative demographics. Yes, America has much more diabetes than some of these other countries. But America also has a far larger proportion of ethnics who are inherently more likely to DEVELOP diabetes: blacks, Hispanics, Amerindians.

I have light-to-moderate ebola.

Awww. The apple cider instant packets have like 200% vitamin C, I always sip cups and cups of those when I'm sick.

If
you are up to actually making food Ace, can toddle down to grocery
store for a sec and have a crock pot handy, here is a super good, super
easy chicken soup recipe. It's based on a Wolfgang Puck recipe, but I modify it for whatever I have on hand.

Get
one of those bagged rotisserie chickens from the grocers. Fill up a
giant crock pot with water, and chicken or veg bouillon cubes to flavor
water. Add rotisserie chicken, either meat only cut up or large pieces
of the whole thing. Add some onion (I either do the dried flakes or
frozen prechopped from grocery freezer aisle, I HATE chopping onions),
and onion and/or garlic salt if you want. Then add whatever veg you like
or happen to have handy: frozen or fresh peas/carrots, chopped celery, cubed
potatoes, pinto or kidney beans, etc.

Go back to bed and sleep a few more hours, then can eat. And is even better the next day, can leave on low all night. Makes the house smell heavenly.

If you are really on verge of death, canned chicken soup works too, hah. but this is yummier and I swear by it.

520 Well sure sign the decision is coming down if the Gov put the National Guard on Alert. I am sure they have told him

And no one's expecting rioting if there are charges.

BTW, for the record, I was in the camp of folks who were pissed about the cops' handling of the daylight demonstrations (waving rifles around in people's faces, the APC, officer 'fuck you', etc.)

Just want to be clear that the national guard are troops and serve a different function. Particularly since the folks involved on planning the riots have made it easy to pick sides, I support the guardsmen.

The second guy states how Romney thought that Romneycare would bring him national fame and glory. He delivered to one state, I mean he was only Gov, what the liberal media pundits covet so much in Obamacare and are still protecting. And yet he was not given national fame and glory by this media, they could care less that he embraced a huge government takeover for his state; he still had an (R) at the end of his name. Teaches Republicans to never go full Gruber, or whatever silly metaphor we can use here. You will never get credit. Ahem, Immigration, I'm looking at you.

614 >>Hey, how come Romney never mentioned that the only way Romneycare worked in Massachusetts was because they took advantage of the money Kennedy ripped off from the Federal Government? I have a new view of Romney knowing he took advantage.... small state; mis-appropriated funds... This needs more vetting if you ask me.

Yes he did. Repeatedly. Again, it wasn't a secret and was widely discussed when the law was being debated in MA before being passed. Gruber is a Dem and he has long tried to paint Romney in an unflattering light and make Kennedy sound like a hero.

Every state gets money from the feds to cover the poor. It's fallout from the old EMTALA days.

Romney asked and got permission from the feds to use that money to give subsidies to the poor to buy insurance. It wasn't a ripoff or even and increase and it wasn't a secret. You can google it.

let's be clear about the reality of the inception of Bamacare. 670 I do DoD stuff, so maybe I shouldn't use the Willie Sutton sock, but I've got a problem with Gruber's accounting.

Unless he has a staff to support with appropriate G/A and O/H pools, it is very difficult to bill at those levels as an individual. If he were selling a discrete product, yes, but not expertise which is sold by the hour. He can't double bill hours on Government contracts. A GAO audit will find problems ( this a guarantee in any program).

If he ran everything thru MIT, they're overhead could justify this?

Humanity has been harvesting "GMOs" for... a very long time. Some of those are what might be called "Natural GMOs" or "genetic cross-breeding" (breeding of different, but already extant strains). Some are modified in a lab, instead.

In either case, as someone who likes to eat on a regular basis, I'm largely in favor of GMOs.

A minority carve out is the price of political dominance. Same as in Alabama. Crackin' and Packin'.

702 Yep, JackStraw and Royal, that this absolutely explosive stuff was found by essentially a hobbyist just poking around the available public record says everything we need to know about our collapsed public information system and the "opposition" party.

Try to imagine if something 1/100 this outrageous and brazen had occurred (um, it didn't) in the Bush years, connected to some issue actually affecting the entire country. You would not have been able to find the weather or sports headlines, so total would the media-stormbe. All but the lowest info of the LIVs would know something about it.

Everywhere one looks, the system of representative govt. and rule of law and citizenship is broken. From the tyranny of the courts, the dysfunction and irresponsibility and unresponsiveness of the legislature, to the lawless vandalism of the executive, to the craven passive un-American acquiescence in greater and greater idiocy and loss of liberty by the bulk of the electorate, a lot of that attributable to the disappearance of a real press.

703 512 I will accept National Guard causalities before allowing them to respond with force. My decision for unarmed troops has been made and it's final.

Wait, what? Please tell me that this is a sick joke.

Actually, that has been SOP for riot duty for a very long time. There will be a few (very few) designated personnel armed with ammo but they will not be on patrol/on the line. They are there for dire emergency only. The snuffies will use current generation state riot gear. The State/County Police will be the ones with weapons and ammo.

The Guard is there to protect Law Enforcement.

706 MIT needs to be stripped of federal funding for employing this twat and unleashing him to Gruber the nation.

707 @614 JackStraw.. Ok well, I'm not pissing on Romney too much b/c I hated that he was involved with Romneycare at the outset BUT until I saw that Gruber vid. I follow politics pretty close and I do not recall that kind of detail before. I do not recall Romney laying out the reason heathcare worked so well in MA was because of special-case medicare largess. I do recall him saying something to the effect MA was a small state and maybe not replicable, but not the medicare thing..

I appreciate you saying it was out there.... I didn't see it or hear it... and I hate Kennedy so much and Obamacare so much so I pay attention, and I really had never heard of the 400 million dollar deal for MA before.

708 Hey, Linda isnt doing too bad except for her health. She has a beautiful home in SF, kids, and a huge ranch in New Mexico. If that is being washed up, count me in.

709 At least Linda stopped before she became one of thes old geezers still touring while nearing their 80s. Sheesh!

710 Also note that virtually 100% of the 'Americans who are no longer uninsured' under ACA are those covered by the Medicaid expansion, or those eligible for it already but hadn't applied before the mandate. Take those out, and fewer are insured than before.

712 Yep. The truth is coming out. When will the Republicans do anything about it? IRS scandal, amnesty, Obamacare, crappy economy, high unemployment / jobless "recovery," higher taxes, fast and furious - debacle after debacle, but the Republicans let this administration get away with all of it. Amnesty is coming soon, and they won't do anything about it.
