36 16-we were discussing the shirt shaming at breakfast this morning. My diminutive, red haired daughter said: "Those women need to get a life. They can criticize that man for the shirt he is wearing when they have landed a rocket on a comet racing at 500,000 mph. " My son added, "They are only shaming him because they are too ugly to be drawn on a shirt. They are just jealous."

I was bursting with pride. And my redhead can kick ass at video games, as well as study biochemistry. And she's pretty. So there.

37 Holy fuck Batman!

Is there actually a Republican still in office and not named Sessions trying to do something with regard to illegal immigration (besides empty rhetoric)?

Reuters, 11/13/14

'Maine's largest city has begun clamping down on spending as newly re-elected Republican Governor Paul LePage makes good on a campaign promise to cut funding to cities and towns that give aid to undocumented immigrants.'

Any discussions based in reality are micro aggressive in nature, thus must be banned as "hurtful" and "divisive" as they support the patriarchy.

47 The lamp is burning low upon my table top
The snow is softly falling
The air is still in the silence of my room
I hear your voice softly calling

If I could only have you near
To breathe a sigh or two
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love
On this winter night with you ...

48 Interesting fact is lighter weight fighters in combat sports seem to suffer higher rates of brain damage and fatalities.

Leading theory is that it's the weight cut. These guys tend be super thin already, and when they sweat out the last bit of water to make weight, they actually are reducing the amount of cerebro-spinal fluid that cushions the brain. So when they fight in that condition the brain takes more damage -- even though the lighter weight guys punch and kick each other with much less force than the big boys.

The magic 8 Ball was preceded by a jar. The jar had the same 'answer' float in it, and same black fluid. The jar had a thick gold foil covered cardboard wrapper that covered the entire jar (except for the bottom).

50 For 18 of the last 22 years, the GOP has controlled the House. Given that fact, why have we backslid so far on spending?

Because the same states voting GOP in the House vote Democrat for President. Interesting article from Jay Cost.

56 Lovely picture. Since this is an open thread, I would like to complain about my son's English Lit class. It is apparent from the questions asked of the students that the teacher is heavily focused on racial issues. I understand and accept that this is a big huge part of the 50's and 60's but the handouts for discussion and suggestions of rnarrative writing and for pieces of writing dealing with situations from the 50's as well as from the modern writer Amy Tan are any indication, it's all "I don't fit in and white society is completely racist and biased" You're kidding me? Asian Americans are among the most successful groups in America whose children are the most highly achieving. I think it's important to read a variety of writers and there are a number of AA writers I love, but were "Romeo & Juliet" and "The Curious Incident of the Dog at Midnight" (Which is about an English boy with autism) not assigned (and I think those are the selections across the country for 9th grade) there would be no non AA writers represented. The daughter of friend of mine had this woman for English Honors. The entire course consisted of Black writers but it was not designated as an AA writers Honors English class. When the grandmother called to ask (and she had a honors degree in English lit) why there were only AA writers she got called a "racist" by the Department Head who hung up on her.

57 And her's my consideration of an annoying bumper sticker seen today.

It's a icon of the flying spaghetti monster with an FSG in the center. What is the point of this? Are they trying to tell me they are an Atheist or just thumbing their nose at Christians? There was not even a 20 something hipster driving the car. It was a guy in his 60's or 70's. FenelonSpouse had no idea what the symbol meant (They thought it was a crab) until I explained it. So is it like a secret handshake? All the worshippers of the FSG recognize the symbol and hurry off to the catacombs where they can practice their evangelical Atheism in private safe from the oppressive local Lutheran/Presbyetrian/Roman Catholic authorities who are going to lock them up? ;^)
