Just a basic understanding of economics, medicine, insurance, and the US situation made his comments bizarre and idiotic. People speculate about what-ifs and worst cases on many subjects. Well here is one in real life. Millions of people - almost entirely the more responsible, successful, and self-sufficient - have been administered a body blow, out of the blue, having a needlessly expensive but otherwise taken-for-granted part of their financial life (health insurance) essentially ripped away from them. They have, suddenly, been confronted with serious financial hardship (material hits to their cash flow and savings plans), and threatened with financial penalties if they *don't* submit and pour more $$$$ down the rathole, for inferior coverage.
Sure, 2010, and 2014. But so what? And this idiot was re-elected in 2012? If the insane, un-American, ruinous final govt. destruction of health care finance doesn't generate some actual backlash - in actual law and policy, not at the ballot box - then there will be no reason to think that the controls are attached to the control surfaces any longer.

The conservatarian "alternative" newsstream managed to defeat the MSM.
This is a major social earthquake.
We have not been able to unseat the Gramscian cryptocommunists who have taken over almost the entirely of the mainstream media, and so they retain an iron grip on it, with the attendant water-carrying for Obama, embargoing of stories that hurt the liberal cause, and constant relentless "framing the narrative" from a Marxist vantage point.
However, we've created or acquiring or amplified so many alternate streams that a significant proportion of the electorate "got the message" anyway (i.e. perceived current events through a conservatarian filter).
The alternate streams include:
1. Drudge
2. Right-wing talk radio
3. Fox News on cable
4. Conservative blogosphere
5. Anti-progressive Twitter, Facebook and social media.
6. A growing number of conservative and libertarian news sites and magazines
7. A burgeoning number of "local reporters" for local TV stations that sneak in anti-progressive stories.
8. Other stuff that probably eludes me at the moment.
All of these combined created an "end-around" to the MSM. And continues to do so.
Thus, the Gruber story CAN'T be embargoed by the MSM. They no longer hold the information monopoly.

I think you give too much credit to the alternate news streams. I think a lot of our victories had to do with the general suckage created by the Obama government, the likes of which has gotten so bad that even the Black communities are starting to notice.
I heard Reince Priebus mentioning on Tavis Smiley last night that we hit record numbers with Blacks and Latinos.
I think the immigration thing with the ebola thing and a lot of other things combined to get some attention where it wouldn't have before.

This is a point I often make. It is government interference in the Health care industry that is primarily responsible for the costs being so out of control. Because people are so disconnected from paying the actual costs themselves, there is no personal incentive on the part of most people to control or contain costs.
The idea of Medical Insurance was heavily boosted by the government trying to institute wage controls way back when. Companies tried to come up with other ways to compensate them and so they started offering medical insurance.

Not today, but yesterday here saw repeated the critical non-fact that there were around 30 million uninsured.
* Only financially, voluntarily "uninsured" even matter as a concern of public policy
* The numbers in that category are a small fraction of 30 million - possibly as low as 5 - 8 million, based on Census and other real data
* Any increase in "coverage" under the disastrous ACA is merely an expansion of Medicaid - nothing new, and nothing positive, for many reasons
* There was never the slightest justification for doing anything more than handing out vouchers to the 5 - 8 million involuntarily financially uninsured to buy existing plans - exactly the approach taken as part of the "safety net" for food (food stamps) and housing (Sec 8 vouchers).
* Even the pre-existing condition nonsense is baseless. First, "covering" pre-existing conditions is not insurance, it's welfare - which is fine, but needs to be accurately described in order to address properly. Second, there already has been large-scale experimentation with high-risk pools etc, most of which have been failures. In any case it's a statistically and financially tiny sub-set of the population, "solving" that issue should not materially affect the overall picture.
But these are just f***ing obvious, basic considerations. Can't expect them to enter the public debate, even from "opponents" of disastrous unconstitutional unsustainable socialized health care finance.

There is a trend to build mini-AWACs aircraft out of bizjets. I have argued in the past for making armed patrol aircraft in the same way. There will be a ton of older smaller regional jets coming out of airline service soon, with plenty of life left in the frames. 200-series Canadairs and what have you.

Tort reform helps, and is worth doing, but it's not the major driver of costs.
Name any other major service consumed by the public where they don't know the cost of what they consume. Hell, the "providers" often don't even know the cost of what they provide.
THIS is the North Korean insanity created by disconnecting prices from consumers (both final and intermediate consumers).
Simply removing the barriers to real health insurance (which still existed not that long ago, and was not even a major cost issue for most) would "create" such bounty that "covering" the uninsured would be a trifle. End state-level cartel dynamics, end mandates, remove other regulator barriers to entry and competition, watch in amazement.
Some here may remember what air travel was like (cost, density of services, etc.) prior to deregulation, vs. after. The difference in health care finance would be just as dramatic.

I will point out that there were over 100,000 children born to British Loyalists after July 4, 1776. Both the US Government and the English Crown recognized them as British subjects despite the fact they were born on American soil.
I will also point out that James Madison's very own government refused to recognize the US Citizenship of a man born in Charleston South Carolina after 1776 because his father had not yet been naturalized. (The Man's name was James McClure.)

The conservatarian "alternative" newsstream managed to defeat the MSM.
This is a major social earthquake.
We have not been able to unseat the Gramscian cryptocommunists who

Actually the first big win was pantsing "Gunga Dan" Rather on trying to make up stuff on Dubya back in '04. That was heap big scalp for the Conservative Alternative Media (CAM), and the LSM has yet to acknowledge it in public.
Now, I will say that most of the Democrat failure this year was due to Obummer, and some lame 'Rat election strategery. However it was the LSM to point it out, but they had already thrown away their objectivity to be shills guards for Obummer. So CAM stepped in to do the job for them, and remind everyone every day what a mess Obummer and his Congressional lackeys had made, and how they could not be trusted to do the job right. CAM got a break this time since Obummer seems to have stopped caring if his party can win another election with or without his help, but repetition on a theme can help a lot. And compared to the LSM standard propaganda, now wearing thin due to 6 years of bad results, the CAM allegations getting picked up drew attention, and comparison to how things were in The World, as opposed to inside the Beltway.
