Gardening Bleg

It seems that my Dicentra (aka "Bleeding Heart") has packed it in for the summer. The blooms are long-gone and the leaves are turning yellow and wilty in the heat.

What do you think? Cut 'em back now and over-plant with something? I usually wait until the fall but I can't imagine that anything I do to these garden bullies even this early is going to damage them.

"The Question Is Moot" UPDATE: The Missus got at them with her shears last evening and razed them. Guess I'd better find something to fill in.

1 I just cut mine down yesterday. I don't know if I'm going to stick anything over them though, because they were already sort of crowding my dianthus.

2 Dig 'em up and send them to me. I've been begging Husband to plant bleeding hearts since we moved.

3 When the leaves look good and dead, cut them off close to the ground--well, they're not going to do anything useful once there's no more chlorophyll in them--and overplant with some fast-growing annual like zinnias or my fave, cosmos, indestructable, drought tolerant, repeat bloomers, and very useful for cutting. If the plant dies, I shall deny having said any of this.
