Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The WreckageSorry for bailing last night. It was painful. It was a bloodbath. We're in a tough position now. I'll talk about my early reactions and theories on the night in a later post. For now, the damage assessment:Republicans entered the night with a 53 to 47 edge, and Democrats needed to flip four seats. They flipped at least seven, with victories in some of the most Republican states in the country. The Republican seats lost were: Texas: James Talarico defeated Attorney General Ken Paxton. We don't know yet if the cheating whore Mary Peltola stole the seat in Alaska from the real Dan Sullivan. We also lost gubernatorial races, including Texas'. Republicans held a 26 to 24 advantage in governorships going in, with 36 races on the ballot. Democrats flipped four GOP-held offices. Texas: Gina Hinojosa defeated three-term Gov. Greg Abbott. At least we can finally say goodbye to the annoying game show host and grifter Vivek Ramaswamy. They're still counting House seats, but not only did the Democrats take the House, but they'll have the largest majority they've had in decades. In the the House, Democrats will start the year with what would be its largest majority in nearly two decades, NBC News projects. Democrats flipped more than two dozen districts, some that voted for Trump by double digits in 2024.Trump is now obviously a lame duck. Not only does he face the most intensely hostile Congress than any president has ever faced -- Lincoln got rid of most of his congressional opponents by branding them insurrectionists -- but the cowardly NeverTrumpers and GOPe Corporate Supremacists who pretended to support him for the past ten years while covertly undermining him now have no fear of him and can undermine him more openly. Unfortunately, Trump 1.0 had a golden economy to offset many voters' intense dislike of him. Trump 2.0 has a decent economy, but people can't see beyond persistently high inflation and they think the economy is in poor shape. I assume this All-American Solid Citizen won:

I think it was less ideological and more about Trump the person and wanting to send a message. I dont believe these deep red states are now blue. But they are definitely anti-Trump. We have to take stock of reality after a loss like this recognize did a lot of dumb shit. I'm so tired of the echo chamber where it's all about voter fraud or CA transplants. Or RINOs. I have to admit, I don’t understand a lot of the voter sentiment. The economy seems to be their biggest issue, and Democrats didn’t really proffer any remedy, just hyperbole. I am curious what voters expect with this change, and what Democrats can actually deliver. The price of gas is now predictably dropping and Trump has trillions of US investment coming online. That will all prime the economy further.

A theory: Trump is focused more on the long game. With Iran, take their grip (Strait of Hormuz) out of the middle east equation. Tarrifs will eventually bring more production to the USA. None of this happens overnight, or even in a couple years. But it is a long game strategy.

Our culture is weak and has no stomach for sacrifice. The people cannot see a nuclear armed Iran as a viable threat, so the verdict is that the cost (increased gas prices) is too high. One of the points I want to make is that Trump needed to make a strong argument about why deportations are necessary, addressing the nation to list all of the serious criminals being deported. But.... what if he had? The media would refuse to cover the speech and would claim that one or two statements were "lies" which then allows them to suggest that every thing he says is a lie. Only if Trump received intelligence that Iran had a bomb ready to deliver on Israel or us, does a war at that time make sense. And BONUS! Conducting a "kind war" to leave infrastructure, etc intact and minimize the death toll, assuming the anti-gov't forces would take over once the mullahs and gov't were decapitated was...well, misreading the situation. Short of flattening everything in sight instantly like in a real war, this was going to last, at least a year or two. So, now the Dims will hand Iran a victory. America's blood and treasure wasted and revenge will be sought. Plus, the USA now becomes Flambe' France. Terrific. Posted by: naturalfake at November 04, 2026 12:14 PM (YSUhf) 88

78 >>>61 Also propaganda works. And we haven't had that tool or wanted to use it historically.
The media has never before simply refused to cover a president's speeches before. They are running intense, unashamed propaganda at Color Revolution levels. They see aspects like a nuclear armed Iran in the abstract without realizing a lot of our men died at their hands, they have a zealous religious desire for genocide because they don’t like our way of life, and eliminating that capability should be a priority. As far as I can tell, Republicans mainly got wiped out on high GAS PRICES.
Democrats promised lower prices, yet not one said how that would be achieved (other than leaving Iran). Democrat actions that have RAISED gas prices: - Biden cancelled Keystone pipeline on day 1, stranding oil in Canada and keeping it off the global markets - Biden and the Democrats then cancelled oil and gas leasing for offshore areas - Democrats banned fracking in NY and other states - Newsom is closing refineries when we are already operating near 100% capacity (which is not sustainable) - Biden pulled oil out of the SPR (not during an emergency) and didn't replace it - Trump tried to re-fill the SPR when crude was $30/barrel during the Covid economic collapse but Schumer blocked him. Buying oil at $30 and selling at $105 is an economic home run, that Democrats refused. - When 20 million barrels/day was blocked from passing through the Straits of Hormuz, Trump deployed military forces to re-open the Straits, Democrats voted to end the use of the military - Carbon taxes are going to be proposed by the incoming crop of Leftists. The "Good":
1- Trump has been much better this term on my priority issue: immigration. ICE is funded through Sep 2029, he's motivated and making progress, and I think we're seeing the beginning positive impact (economy doing well, rent prices started slowing, crime dropping, etc) 2- I think Iran (and Israel/Palestine nonsense) has really pissed off normies, even though the actual impacts are pretty small. It has to end well before 2028, Trump's economy should surge, and the Republican Pres candidate hopefully will have a good shot. 3- When Dems win big, they overreach and fight internally, and voters recoil quickly. The bad- 1- The media (social, mainstream, foreign bots and governments, etc) have been INCREDIBLY successful in keeping Trump's wins out of the publicist mind, and keeping his failures, real or imagined, in the forefront. People think the economy is awful, and inflation high, when it isn't. They think we're losing to Iran, which is retarded. They think Trump is a corrupt pedo destroying the government and ignoring the courts, which is all BS. They think he's racist and too mean and violent with ICE deportations, when 90% of issues are from Dem states not assisting Posted by: Moron Analyst at November 04, 2026 12:20 PM (t19vo) 138

Just to be clear that wasn’t a knock on our .mil which has lost its way a bit from a GO perspective, but still has the finest troopers in the world. It’s just a sober, perhaps melancholy assessment of a world where what gets prevented gets very little credit. There seems to be some of that flowing through the post election analysis. That is simply, the war is a distraction and not our priority, we want a better economy and that war is taking away from it. I would only answer we can do both, and the first ultimately protects the second. But in our world of ad hominem, baseless, one-minute, 30 character bleats people don’t lend any credence to the argument. Only to self, and their needs, not the needs of our society and country which preserve our ultimate well being.

What I find hardest to accept is that there were people who - being mad because of high gas prices - caused by the Iran War, decided to vote for Democrats, whose stated policy is to halt all gas and oil production. The Democrats ran on affordability. This doesn't mean lower inflation, it means social spending.
-- I read it as a placeholder for "everything is too expensive." and the counter was, temporary waivers on beef imports and temporary tariff reductions. Remember in 2024, Trump said he had a really great idea he was forming to reduce health care costs? What did we get? Some prescription pills that most Americans don't even know of got lowered prices. And pretty much the norm for midterm elections. I don't buy for a second this election turned on Iran. It's not even a war. It's a blockade with occasional bombing. We lost more people in a day in Iraq than we have in the entire effort to take down the mullahs. And gas is cheaper than it was under Biden. No sane person believe Democrats, who literally have run for years on making gas more expensive, thinks by electing Democrats now gas will get cheaper. The election was not about gas or Iran. Texas didn't elect a gay, trans freak because they don't have cheap gas. Michigan didn't elect a jihadist because they weep for people who throw gays off buildings. The demographic trends are not in our favor. From San Antonio south to the border, the map looks like the Rio Grande has spilled its banks. Dallas is now blue, and elected a openly gay sheriff. Houston elected an openly gay mayor! Denton (where I live) and Austin are college towns and thus infested with entitlement titty-babies who vote D until they’re blue in the face. Eddie Bernice Johnson and Sheila Jackson Lee represent Texas! Further to the trend, next time you’re on the roads, count how many California plates you see. When we get ‘news’ stories about another left coast burger joint or grocery store opening with the people celebrating ‘it’s just like back home!’, it would be a mistake to assume they only brought their palates with them, not their politics." Who is this "we"? I feel liberated. I used to care about how to keep the flame of liberty, freedom and human flourishing alive. I didn't want to be that generation that killed it. I believe the axiom: You can vote in socialism you have to shoot your way out. Mills, Gen-Z and Gen-α ? Yes, Welcome to Slavery. The world has known it since all of human history, and now you can join them — forever. Can't afford things? Get used to it. It only gets worse. Want the warmth of Low Trust Society? I don't trust you either. Given the sacred duty of preserving liberty, instead you gave away your birthright in exchange for nothing. Can't get a job? I don't care anymore. Let the H1-B and the foreigner take it and all of your entitlements too. You wanted it. You begged for it. Now enjoy the fruits of your seppuku. Uncharacteristically, I was more hopeful last night. The one place I knew would be bad was Cali and their redistricting efforts, it looks like at a bare minimum, the GOP congressional delegation will be halved, down to 4 reps, and if the counting continues to go the way it's going, they may be completely wiped out in California. At this point the GOP should close up any offices they have there. I did my bit in NJ but booker and the donk twat whore who represents my district won. I think Trump got elected in 2024 (and likely 2016) by joining non-ideological folks to the republican base with the hope of a better economy. In the first term he achieved some success with lower gas prices. In the second term he betrayed that economy focused part of his coalition when he foolishly joined Israel in the attack on Iran and sent the cost of gas higher than what Mr. Biden and his cronies had done.

It's going to be ok, Ace and all. Do not fear anything. The Dims will overreach as they always do.
I had a nap after dinner, due to horrible sleep for over a month due to illnesses in our family, the hospitalization of our elderly mother, etc. I woke to read the horrible news. No panic as Obungo's reign of terror was worse on my soul. I was disgusted and disappointed, but felt no fear or anger. Spoke to my wise and wonderful husband. Realized that midterms are made of this. Then slept like a baby. Have faith. I don't say those two words lightly or pompously, as I simply find God when it gets bad and I fear nothing on this earth. Darkness strengthens faith every single time. I fear nothing that I cannot control. I was made this way from ancestors, a Marine father, and faith all of my life. The only fear I have, that I can't control, is what is ahead for our children and grandchildren. I pray for them when I pray for our country. I then realize that our ancestors have been through far worse. Similar to packed churches after 9/11/01...I pray those of you who don't feel God's peace to find this through prayer. He is always there for you. For once I am not being sarcastic. Posted by: ChristyBlinkyTheGreat at November 04, 2026 12:57 PM (hzuYO) 387

I don't think you can underestimate the turn-off factor of Trump constantly running his mouth.
He's rude and brash, that might work with the audience that wants to 'own the Libs' but his failure to communicate beyond that makes him look unreasonable and unhinged instead of the Dems. His propensity to act on impulse is also very damaging. The Iran war was the right thing to do. The West cannot afford a nuclear armed terrorist state. Has he ever made an effort to articulate that to America? More than that though, his prosecution of the war was insane. One day he was attacking then he stops, says 'we're going to get a deal' then he's back to making ridiculous threats and it becomes a cycle where he completely undermines the ability to win the war. He does the same thing where he is treating allies worse than enemies, to absolutely no gain. I think people are fed up with what has increasingly become a circus act that they don't think looks like it's making progress on it's promises. Posted by: Nova Local at November 04, 2026 12:50 PM (Gb7+b) ------ Yep. Constituent services wins the day a lot of the time. Lindsey Graham's gay ass spent decades the Senate mostly because he was downright famous for his office's constituent services folks. They busted their asses for South Carolinians who needed ANYTHING they could possibly influence. DeSantis got things done legislatively and he also was out front dealing with natural disasters and proudly showcasing how his government was highly competent and able to help Floridians in need, and was able to respond to their needs quickly. It. Matters. I liken it to HEB here in Texas. Sure it's a great grocery store, but when a storm hits the coast the first things Texans see is their tractor-trailers rolling in to provide aid to those affected and it builds a ton of goodwill. In 2024 there were five Senate seats that mysteriously went from red to blue after midnight. The numbers on some of the “wins” yesterday simply do not math. Look for 60 Senate seats in 2028 and a stolen Democrati presidency. The courts get packed, and that is end game. Posted by: Ann at November 04, 2026 01:07 PM (SHHm+) 449

"The argument I'm disagreeing with (changed demographics) is fact-free blackpill doomerism (they outnumber us; kill yourselves while there's still time)."
The red state to blue state trend has the same underlying reality: declining share of the white population. The only demographic group that votes Republican is white people. There isn't another one. Blacks, Hispanics, Asians are all Democratic by 2 to 1 at a minimum. CA was 60% white in 1980. 1990 57% white. Last GOP POTUS candidate to carry the state was Bush in 1988. VA 78% in 1980. 58% in 2020. Republicans will never win another statewide election. GA was 71% white in 1980. It's now 58% white. TX and FL were the supposed outliers, the supposed "naturally conservative" Hispanics that could safely be imported en masse. Well if Texas is gone, then you don't have a path to 270 votes. An America that is majority nonwhite will not be a conservative country. It just won't be. That's not fact free doomerism it's just plain reality. The only people in the world that favor free speech, gun rights, and a competitive market economy as a group are white Americans. But no, I have no intention of killing myself. That's a sin. I am one stubborn redneck woman. My ancestors lived through far worse, going back to the Domesday Book, where we are listed. French Huguenots (who are probably not pleased with me becoming Catholic, but I could convince them as my power is that strong). We fight. My own father, in one of our very rare arguements when I was a teen, paused, told me I was acting like a bitch (he never, ever cussed in front of me). My eyes got big and he laughed and said, "I don't think you are afraid of the devil himself." That would be correct, and I agreed with him and we both laughed. I may be blonde, half crazy most of the time laughing, and other wacky stuff. But trust me, you'd want me in your foxhole as I fear nothing but snakes, and am calm in emergencies. I'll be damned if politics is ever going to get me down again. I'm blessed in ways I cannot count, and thankful daily to God for this. The Iran problem will not be removed until the regime is gone. A very difficult thing to do, though the current situation is a solid try with a chance - but it needs time.
If the regime is not gone, the can has been kicked down the road. And it will come back bigger and worse than before. Not just the nuke/missile aspect, which suffices as an intolerable uncontainable threat. The regime has now played its top card, claiming it controls the Strait. Bell that cannot be "un-rung". Americans (all) demand perfect security and stability at zero risk or cost (and quickly!), and weaponize their ignorance and lack of understanding in doing so. Moral hazard of putting American forces in harm's way has long since gone beyond sane limits. If only our commitments and force structure matched our political ability to act (= 1/3 of current forces and ending all alliance commitments). you do, you just do it for every single demographic group in the country except white men. Everyone else gets healthcare and EBT and college and preferential hiring and grants and loans and on and on and on.
Posted by: Vick King at November 04, 2026 01:18 PM (OPlHs) When my oldest kid went to college my wife insisted on filling out fafsa forms. I said why waste time we’re white and “rich” (according to the govt). She was like no just fill it out and lest see what happens. what happened was we were told LOLGF you’re not getting a dime. Meanwhile Ahmed, JaQuan and Prajeet get showered with money. Posted by: Sandy Cocazio Ortez at November 04, 2026 01:24 PM (qRlGC) 528

Huh? Surveys among "MAGA" voters showed support in 80s and 90s, at least initially. Posted by: rhomboid at November 04, 2026 01:24 PM (U/Byj) 529
"Habibi" - what a guy.
----------------- In his 20-minute victory speech, the upstart progressive extended no olive branch to Republicans, instead gloating and mocking Rogers, Vice President JD Vance and Trump, the last of whom often mocked his name. “JD, habibi, there is this delicious irony in the fact that you’re constitutionally obligated to swear me in January,” El-Sayed said." El-Sayed had especially harsh words for Rogers. “You chose hate, and Michigan chose hope,” he said. “May we never have to see the likes of you in this state again.” Posted by: beckster at November 04, 2026 01:24 PM (kX27y) 530

Biden and Mayorkas bragged about this outcome...can't blame Trump for their malignant plan
Posted by: night lifted at November 04, 2026 01:17 PM (kJmLc) I don't blame Trump for their plan. I blame him for taking his eye off the ball. The only viscerally unpopular Republican policy is Middle Eastern Wars. Trump in 2024 brought in new voters who really believed him when he said no new wars. Now, you can argue we had to do Iran. That's fine. But in doing Iran, gas prices spiked which is political poison, and this is the result. Because we have universal suffrage, and in that world people literally just vote against the incumbent when gas is expensive. That's all they do. If a Democrat wins the Presidency in 2028 we're getting 30 to 50 million new American citizens, and they're all going to vote Democrat forever. It will be the first piece of legislation they pass, it will be the law of the land by Valentines Day 2029, and the GOP will be extinct as a national party. Posted by: rhomboid at November 04, 2026 01:24 PM (U/Byj) It had a lot of support in a small group. Outside the core base which is maybe 1/3 of the electorate it was opposed. Posted by: Sandy Cocazio Ortez at November 04, 2026 01:27 PM (qRlGC) 534

One thing missing from the above great analysis. (I didn't yet read it all; have to get back to work and circle back later.)
Women (not the 'ettes of course) I'm in a blue state but my circle has quite a few conservative minded folks. Virtually every, and I mean every, woman I know has a seething loathing of Trump personally. I hear it at parties, dinners, family gatherings, anywhere. I don't remember any woman ever defending any policy of Trump, let alone even a "I don't like him personally, but he has done a few good things". Nothing, nada, just sheer dislike and hatred. And the personal hate goes beyond his personality. His work on immigration translates to, "Trump hates all immigrants who are just trying to make a better life". I actually had a discussion with a woman who was rational but still hates Trump. She said, "How could you support him?" I took the time to explain SAVE to her by way of example and she listened and acknowledged she hadn't known anything about that but that it made total sense. But she would still not vote for him, let alone begin to defend him to her women friends and relatives who detest everything about him. That's an awful big voting block. Lots of reasons for what happened. But the core reason is people were pissed off with Trump and the economy. You can explain it all and point out that gdp growth is 3% and whatever. Terrific.
But the average person feels like they’re not doing well. It’s the Reagan “are you better off than 4 years ago” scenario. And most people don’t feel they are. Posted by: Sandy Cocazio Ortez at November 04, 2026 01:30 PM (qRlGC) 539

___________________________________ I've thought from the beginning that, in many ways, Trump's real estate training has been more a hindrance than a help. He tends to see things in a 'business opportunity' light rather than an objective 'real world' light. He thinks he can 'negotiate' things that instead require a genuine ASS-KICKING (e.g., Iran). He can NOT negotiate with fanatics. Their worldview doesn't permit it. We get to experience his failure to realise that simple salesman / customer reading. Oh: Don't hold your breath waiting for him to nuke Iran, either. Or conduct the bombing campaign he talked about pre-election. Ain't gonna happen. Wouldn't be 'prudent' (where've you heard that before?). Posted by: Dr_No at November 04, 2026 01:33 PM (ayRl+) Processing 0.08, elapsed 0.0947 seconds. |
