A delightful image of the sea shore after a storm. The wet rocks and sand now drying, the gentle blue of the sky, and the sharp shadows of the returned sun. The rocks that have withstood the water's attacks for millennia are weathered but still solid, adding to the sense of relief in the painting. The door in the rocks and the impression of an entrance on the lower left I can't explain but it is intriguing.
Courbet belonged to the Realism school of French art, where they paint only what they see. Courbet took that approach and still managed to add layers of meaning and emotion very effectively. BTW, check out Courbet's Wiki page. It includes the range of subjects he covered: seascapes, nudes (yay!), and some gorgeous still life paintings. Worth the time. And now the head-shaking cases start to surface. In IA, a state legislative candidate with serious health problems dropped out in September. He was comfortably elected in a GOP-leaning district, anyway. In a state-level TX race, a woman candidate who was convicted of a felony and suspended her campaign was elected.
In the 2010 wave election (I believe bigger in scope than even this cycle, down to county level), a deceased CA incumbent was re-elected. And not a single incumbent was defeated (IIRC), illustrating the total death of competitive politics in CA (this was 16 years ago). Posted by: rhomboid at November 06, 2026 10:18 AM (U/Byj) 136

Have to check with a friend who's quite expert and dig into the job numbers, but as I've noted for a few days, about all of the key macro numbers/trends are positive, some markedly so, and all directly attributable to Trump policies that are working (they're all pretty obvious familiar common sense policies, but his administration actually implements them).
The economic agony is unbearable, of course, because that's what I'm told (even though it is multiples better on every score than 2-3 years ago, when economic pain wasn't even a topic). But it was important to elect masses of Dems who've offered literally not a single actual policy idea (they have none) to "improve" a rapidly improving situation. Pathetic and disastrous. --- Trump gambled those numbers would show up well before election day. And it wasn't a bad bet. He just underestimated how big a headwind the "do-nothing" Republicans were and how dedicated the Dems were to preventing any good economic news. The challenge now, as those numbers start to show up, is a coherent message that resonates giving him credit and preventing the Dems from stealing credit. They actually did, but they were chasing the wrong kind of insecurity. Illegals voting aren't what fortified it this time, it was fat black women counting votes plus a likely significant dose of AI-assisted cyber intrusion. Ubuntu, the largest and wokest Linux distribution, sat on a bunch of security problems everyone else had already patched until after the election.
