Halloween Miscellany

Content remaining after some disappeared:

One of the greatest ironies of the COVID era, for me, was watching people whose self-concept revolved around championing multiculturalism, Indigenous wisdom, and respect for non-Western traditions suddenly demand absolute conformity to a single Western biomedical approach to health.

Traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, and countless Indigenous healing traditions around the world emphasize the health of the whole organism, its environment, and the cultivation of balance and resilience over fighting a particular pathogen.

Yet during COVID, discussions of these perspectives—overall health, fitness, mental health, nutrition, and internal balance—were met with ridicule and even censorship, while people who refused the novel allopathic pharmaceutical intervention were excluded from most aspects of society.

It was so dark that it was hard to appreciate the parody. People whose entire cultural narrative revolved around multiculturalism were insisting that everyone conform to the dominant Western biomedical establishment—a system consolidated through Rockefeller-era reforms, backed by oil wealth, that marginalized traditional approaches to medicine.

Anyone who refused to conform to the system during the Covid era was treated as an ignorant savage, too stupid or dangerous to participate in society.

And anyone who practiced holistic medicine and rejected the novel allopathic intervention was labeled "hesitant"—someone who needed to be "educated." The colonial irony was breathtaking. Here were the self-appointed champions of Indigenous wisdom, assuming the familiar role of the enlightened colonizer, arriving to educate the ignorant savages out of their supposedly primitive beliefs.

The Founding

October 31, A Daily Dose of the American Rev

On this day in 1780 General Nathanael Greene wrote George Washington, expressing his great concern over the condition of the army in the Southern Department (of which he was about to assume command) and describing his pleas for arms and provisions. “I shall have the satisfaction of having done all in my power,” he concludes, “and if there is not public spirit enough in the people to defend their liberties, they will well deserve to be slaves.” The entire letter is a good read and a very interesting look at how desperate the situation was as the fateful year 1781 approached.

Philadelphia October 31st 1780

Sir,

On my arrival at this place I laid your Excellency’s letter before Congress and addressed them on the business of the Southern department. I am happy to inform you that my appointment is perfectly agreeable to their views and wishes. But I am sorry to acquaint you that from the best account I can get of the state and condition of the troops in that quarter, nothing is to be expected from them, unless large supplies can be forwarded from the Northward. They are altogether without clothing and blankets, and totally unfit for any kind of service. To carry them into the field in this condition will only fill the hospitals and sacrifice the lives of a great many valuable men. Arms are not less wanting than Clothing, and Waggons as much as either. Men I believe may be had if it was in our power to equip them for the field. But how we shall do this is difficult for me to imagine. Congress can furnish no money, and the Board of War neither clothing or other necessaries. Indeed the prospect is dismal, and truly distressing.

I beg your Excellency to urge unceasingly the necessity of forwarding supplies for the southern Army, as it will be impossible to carry on a winters campaign without clothing.

I have laid before Congress an estimate of our wants; but there is not the shadow of a prospect of their being furnished unless constant attention is paid to the business. And I am apprehensive as soon as I am gone, and no one left to urge our wants they will soon be forgotten.

The late success of the Militia against Col. Ferguson, I am in hopes will be attended with good consequences. It will give a severe check to the Tories and spirit and confidence to the Whigs. A report prevails this day that Lord Cornwallis has retreated precipitately from Charlotte, towards Camden.

The detachments of the Enemy that sailed lately from New York are landed at Portsmouth in Virginia; and it is said the shipping are pushing up the rivers. The troops have taken possession of the great bridge, by which I am told they command all the lower Counties.

How to employ our little force if we are attacked both in Virginia and N. Carolina at the same time is difficult to determine. My first object will be to equip a flying Army to consist of about eight hundred horse and one thousand Infantry. This force with the occasional aid of the Militia will serve to confine the enemy in their limits and render it difficult for them to subsist in the interior country.

I see but little prospect of getting a force to contend with the enemy upon equal grounds and therefore must make the most of a kind of partizan war until we levy and equip a larger force.

Such was the difficulty of getting provisions and providing the means of transportation that Genl Gates writes in his last letter that the Army was in the utmost danger of disbanding.

Congress have invested me with the same powers they gave to Genl Gates, and annexed Maryland and Delaware to the Southern department.
The arrangement of the Army has taken place, and I hope upon a footing which will render it more respectable than it has been, provided the business of Finance can be got into some regular order: but that is our weak side; and I wish our distresses may be painted in their true colours to the Minister of France, as he intimated to Baron Steuben that your Excellency did not appear to be apprehensive of any difficulty from the state of our affairs.

I have made application to the Merchants of this city for clothing for the Southern army; but they excused themselves as having engaged more already than they can perform. I intend to try to put subscriptions on foot in Maryland and Virginia for the purpose of supplying clothing. Whether it will produce any good or not time only can determine. At any rate I shall have the satisfaction of having done all in my power; and if there is not public spirit enough in the people to defend their liberties, they will well deserve to be slaves.

General Knox promised to send forward a company of Artillery if your Excellency approved thereof I wish they may come forward without loss of time. This State have promised to lend me one thousand stand of Arms upon a promise of their being replaced which I beg your Excellency to give an order for, as this was the only footing they could be obtained upon. I have the honor to be With every sentiment of respect and esteem Your Excellency’s Most Obedient Humble Servant.

27 Brief tangiential: Ross Bagdasarian aka Dave Seville & the Chipmunks

"Shana Alexander, Life magazine in 1959, noted that Bagdasarian was the first case in the "annals of popular music that one man has served as writer, composer, publisher, conductor and multiple vocalist of a hit record, thereby directing all possible revenues from the song back into his pocket." Alexander also found it remarkable that Bagdasarian "can neither read nor write music nor play any musical instrument in the accepted sense of the word."[38] Bagdasarian owned Chipmunk Enterprises, which sponsored Chipmunk-related sales. By 1963, some 15 companies were using or planned to use Alvin figures. By that year, Billboard magazine estimated the total income from the Chipmunks' record sales (including overseas sales) and record club sales to be around $20 million ($161 million adjusted for inflation in 2025 dollars).

31 I was wondering the other day about Germany. The German state today is a combination of principalities, regions and other sorts of unusual political entities, which were pulled together into a unified (for given value of Unified) through eliciting pan-Germanic themes of culture, land, custom and language. This was done in the face of the fact that the various German peoples actively disliked each other and remembered what they had done to each other since the fall of Rome, and before.
The current left and greens are striving mightily to erase that history, custom and language in the favor of globalism, and I wonder what will happen when the common ties holding the German peoples together are gone.

Now apply this globally. To not only all cultures and regions. Apply it to business. Apply it to why Nation-States did what they did for a few hundred years recently.

And set it in tune with the Industrial Revolution.

Now ... this will all change when that great, big, beautiful Internet gets chopped up. And it will.

I think the resignation of LaGarde at the Euro Central Bank and Tusk's coup are related. I think the EU is having a US Dollar liquidity problem which is why they continue the war on Russia and have to get Eastern Europe into the Eurozone despite the fact that none of them meet the legal requirements. One of those sticking points is the Polish Constitutional Court (TK) has held Polish Constitution and sovereignty on some matters is NOT under the EU courts. von Leyden cannot have this. Tusk plans to move Poland to the Euro, that requires putting Polish gold into the common EU reserve, and Poland has to accept at a minimum 100k migrants (their fair share). To do this, Tusk has to have the Constitutional Court taken over.

48 Thus the adamant refusal to end the war in Ukraine via their puppet thief Zelinsky. Eurozone desperately needs those frozen Russian assets to backstop their financial system (about 275 billion or so). They have tried repeatedly to take it but first Orban in Hungary and later Trump prevented that. So to recoup the useless billions they spent on Ukraine, they proposed issuing bonds based on the interest payments (which they steal) on the frozen Russian assets.

This is war for the sake of bankers in the EU and their lackey politicians. Russia would do the world a favor by simply targeting the next WEF and/or Bilderburg, Atlantic Council, etc. meeting with missiles.

Senegal's stability is extremely rare in Africa, never had a coup, had elections on a regular basis, no wars with neighbors, no tribe v. tribe slaughters, etc. etc.

Like Botswana, one of the rare islands of stability in a chaotic Africa.

What is not reported is that Nawrocki was accompanied by former Polish special forces types. Senegal is worried about the Wagner group and Prigozhin's son running it. Has become an outright warlord and drug trafficker in West Africa threatening stability in adjoining countries.

Now reports are that the military refused the President's request to land at the military airport but the pilots did it anyway.

It appears that a Tusk whose party got only about 30 percent of the vote in 2023 was trying to exile the President elected nationwide in 2025 with over 50 percent of the vote.

66 49 I think entire EU financial structure is about to come unglued. Continued.

Economists who aren't retarded have said the EU is financially untenable since before it happened. The EU itself is of course doing all of the worst possible things to accelerate the ungluing though.

Currency unions are a bad idea because each EU country has different productivity, different taxes, etc. etc. Conglomerating all of them into a mess has enervated Germany which originally benefitted, led to stupid overspending by the EU Southern countries, led to nosebleed tax rates in productive EU states like Netherlands, etc.

And was always designed as a political, not economic, way to make the EU a superpower. And the whole Euro project has failed and now the bill is coming due.

The truth is the EU Central Bank is held together by debt and that debt is causing serious destruction of EU economies under the Euro. Now, like any failing empire, the quest is on to bring in new territories to loot them to preserve the status quo a bit longer. Or end up in a war with Russia that destroys the debt by repudiation.

One of the reasons why Poland has done so well economically is that they still have their own currency, and aren't locked into the Euro.

I think it is more to the point that the EU is realizing that its salad days of bleeding the US via unfair trade and making the US defend them from stupid actions is done. And even Obama, while he spoke nice to the Euros and played around with some of their idiocies like the Color Revolt in Ukraine, announced a pivot to Asia.

Our future trade is more with Asia than a dying and tired EU and thus NATO is essentially a dead weight expenditure on the necessary security measures that the US needs to have to guard its commerce there. That does not include a large army and prepositioned expensive logistics based in Europe.

With Iran, the Euros again show their uselessness by trying to restrict US base usage and if we cannot use those bases for real challenges (that primarily benefit the Euros and our Asian allies now), then we no longer need them at all.

Visiting an old teahouse dating from the Ming dynasty, he noted that the bridge leading to it was built in zigzag form to thwart evil spirits who, unable to maneuver angles according to Chinese belief, would fall into the water at the turns. Elsewhere observing the number of gods and shrines in all the houses, he remarked that the main point of religion in China “seems to be an effort to scare away evil spirits who are continually trying to do them harm.”

By chance or perspicacity he had hit upon a central fact of Chinese life—fear of Feng shui, the demons, ghosts and devils who bring evil upon men.

109 Actually full looting of the frozen Russian assets has been stymied more than anything by Belgian (and some other) concern that doing so will make them vulnerable to future Russian legal action under BLEU (a Soviet-era financial-legal arrangement that was deemed to remain in force after 1991). Russia can via arbitration go after Euroclear, the Belgian repository where the frozen assets reside.

There's also concern beyond the very specific issues arising out of BLEU about such a large seizure of sovereign assets without any process. The continuing trade relations (= Euro imports of Russian energy) as the context of such an expropriation only make it more dicey.

Which are two different things. We can be a Classical Liberal as we wish, in the Domestic. As Libertarian as we please.

But Internationally ? That's Fools Gold. And Borders are International. As is Trade. All the rest.

But the argument is Moot. We've fucked this experiment. Now we're just waiting to divide up the pie to start again.

134 I largely stay out of defense debates over NATO because my opinion doesn't matter. Never believed the free trade bullshit even though my economics profs tried to inculcate that in me. I agreed with Perot in 92 for example. I can appreciate past European contributions to culture and society but hate their attitudes and governments that put America last. And what is coming out now from Euroland from their ruling elites is pure putrid globohomo trash.

In foreign affairs, I am Jacksonian and hate multilateral gibberish and more so, I dislike the people that believe in it. Most of my former colleagues believed in how wonderful international organizations are and those in defense/nat sec, how NATO shows the way to institute democracy everywhere bullshit.

I was never with them. But as my focus was on domestic politics, I could be non committal about it in discussions as I had to get along with the type.

146 This is brilliant.

The Singularity is now

We were told the Singularity would arrive like a comet – a date, a flash, a headline. It won't. It's already here, and it looks like a press release nobody reads.

Look at biology, just the last six months. A pill that doubles survival in the deadliest cancer. A single infusion that edits a gene – no pills, no refills, no return visits. A man living on a pig's kidney. Each one, alone, is a story. Together, they are a slope.

And the same slope runs through AI, energy, rockets, materials. Each field now accelerates the others. That is what the Singularity actually is: not the moment machines wake up, but the moment progress starts feeding on itself faster than we can absorb it.

Here is the part nobody says. The bottleneck is no longer science. It's permission. The body is becoming a software problem, but our institutions still run on paper, committees and fear. The science is exponential; the bureaucracy is linear. And when a linear system meets an exponential one, the linear one doesn't win. It gets bypassed. Europe should listen carefully.

There were definitely some people who did stupid and evil things in their quest to keep everyone "safe."

149 cont..

I remember having a conversation with my boss about China's inclusion into the WTO. I was against it, on a number of grounds, which I realize now were spot on for a 30 year old.

I remember the one world government stuff when GWHB was president and I admit I poo pooed that. I now think back on it and realize the global elite at that time were already trying to take over, they just needed to take care of the pesky Americans.

They almost did it. But in the end, Americans get pretty honked off at that type of stuff. Had the left been smarter about the immigration stuff, it may have succeeded. But I now know why DC wanted immigration "reform" when no one in the voting public wanted anything like that.

As I have said - they are getting desperate. Trump's election scared them. Then the reaction of the monied class to Biden on technology development freaked many of them out. This election will not knock MAGA out, and if things continue on this path - Rubio, Vance or DeSantis will be the next president, with more MAGA in congress, and more support to attack the judiciary. By then both Canada and Brazil will have been dealt with. It's almost over.

There is a certain sort of American desperate to be thought of as serious thinkers and they end up being Europhile kiss asses and these are primarily in our ruling class. And then you have the Euro educated classes, many have a deep loathing for America and Americans because at the heart of it, is envy. 1914, Europe was the center of the world for civilization. 1945, Europe was in ruins, broke, and dependent on the US (or worse, the Russians for the Eastern bloc).

And they know deep down, their ancestors destroyed European civilization and this gave Europeans essentially nihilism and a deep loathing for the US as optimism that the future can be better.

So I like individual Europeans, get along fine with the strivers and the working class, but their intellectual class is mean, petty, destructive, and envious toward Americans. And asskissing Europhiles in our chattering class simply adore being abused by Euro intellectuals as in Chip Diller--Thank you sir may I have another!

None of these things make economic sense so the rigid support of these idiocies has to be political. Republicans no longer respond to polling. That is clear across the board. So a Dem heavy sampling means less popularity for Trump. I'd imagine that the CBC viewers would get the vapors if they knew that Obama's second term led to low approval ratings as well. That is what led, in part, to Trump winning in 2016. Obama's policies were never popular, the idea of Obama being a salvation for racial peace meant his popularity was artificially inflated for a time until his meanness, his hypocrisy, and his hatred of Americans got noticed. Certainly true in medieval times, unfortunately, under the banner of tolerance, I don't see that resistance in the hierarchy to stopping the flow of immigrants and the Catholic Church has lost its hold on national rulers. Back in the day, the threat of excommunication carried both political and social costs for rulers. Not even attempted now because it would be 'mean' to the casual types.

Not any different than other Christian sects though or even the Jewish faith. Each contain a percentage of secular types that would make deals with the devil if it made them feel 'nice'.

Reminds me of 1914 actually. The old aristocratic class (King Edward's funeral in 1910 is a reminder there of the times) was giving way to the newer order domestically as technological changes no longer supported a fatuous elite class running everything by birth. And that led the aristos to overreact in a series of crises until Europe fell into the abyss in 1914.
