![]() ![]() As intestinal parasites go, tapeworms are the stuff of nightmares. Though they can grow over 80 feet long in extreme cases, they often measure less than one-inch-wide. The intestinal parasites feast on their hosts, sucking valuable nutrients from mammals. And then there's the havoc they wreak on bear butts. One bear spotted in southeastern Alaska's Tongass National Forest this summer knows all about that. The unnamed bear was spotted with multiple long tape worms poking out of its butt as it walked along Anan Creek. For its service as a host to these long worms, the Rangers awarded this bear the 2026 Host with the Most Award. It's a reminder that nature can truly be gnarly.Perhaps not an award one wants to win... ![]() ![]() . USGS Study Outlines Scope and Severity of Bat Fatalities at US Wind Energy Facilities A new USGS study reveals that an estimated 18.7 million bats have been killed at U.S. onshore wind energy facilities since 1981, far more than previously understood. By analyzing data from hundreds of wind projects, researchers identified the species most vulnerable to turbine collisions and uncovered patterns that could help reduce future bat fatalities. The study's findings provide evidence-based solutions for decision makers. For example, the study supports previous evidence that stopping turbines when bats are more likely to be present may reduce mortality for some species. In other words, stop wind mills unless you hate nature. The Science says so. Bonus!

Lived in Japan once. The neighborhood kids (American military base) would gather around trees with bats sorta nested above. Just before sundown. They would form a large circle around the tree and begin to clap hands in rhythm. It made the bats collapse to the ground. Older young 'uns knew to leave them alone.

The band "Ghost" featured above is problematic for me. They're undoubtedly talented, creative, and have a unique spot in the hard rock world. Yeah, and I'll continue to refer to them as "them" even though their egotistical band leader claims HE invented the whole thing and none of the other players matter, and are interchangeable.
In the sentences above, you can already sense some red flags. Here's my problem: Their entire gig live is to do a show involving the lead being an evil Pope, among a series of evil Popes. There's no happy ending, there's no "good triumps over evil", there's just evil Pope performing, or evil Pope being downed by the next evil Pope. Why couldn't they just make melodic metal music? I can't purchase any of their product if they're hell-bent on downing Christianity. Posted by: Crusader at October 31, 2026 10:22 PM (Cjcf6) 55

Poland has been struggling with serious problems within its higher judiciary for more than a decade. Tusk promised to free the judiciary from political interference and introduce reforms aimed at restoring an independent judicial system so the Article was closed in 2024 because of that promise.
A president who resorts to physical confrontation instead of respecting judicial authority shows contempt for the very institutions he is sworn to protect. The Constitution is not his personal playground. The idea is to exhaust countries that could offer resistance to Russia/Trump's acts, and force them to be in constant internal strife. Why doesn't the church say anything against politically engaged protesters attacking the police with a religious song on their lips? There's just so much wrong here. The nth instance of an alt-right or alt-right-adjacent political leader trying to seize power by force. Yet society keeps pretending these are just opinions. What a disgrace President Nawrocki is! A real piece of extremist shit the types that only Hungary's Orban can claim to be as low as him. So what is happening right now in Poland?
Germany's lackey tried to seize the Polish high court and...failed? Are we going to be in this weird state where he stays on as despot? Or are the people going to give me a Romanian holiday? Posted by: 18-1 at October 31, 2026 10:45 PM (sKqQm) 102
My mother told me they ate raw pepitas (pumpkin seeds) to purge intestinal worms in deep Mexico...

I sit here in the dark, bucket of Skittles and Snickers (fun sized) at the ready, but alas, no one comes, and my porch is a blackened desert.

Tusk promised to free the judiciary from political interference and introduce reforms aimed at restoring an independent judicial system...
---- Huh. The word "introduce". I wasn't aware it included the idea of orchestrating a *coup*? Tusk and anyone associated with him should be hung in public. Might have been an old wives tale but when I was a kid there was supposedly a weight loss pill that was an encapsulated tape worm head. Magical weight loss until the lack of nutrients made you feel sick and you went to doctor and they gave you something to kill the tape worm.

GatewayPundit...
The liberal media thinks the American people are so stupid. PBS has a new report out today explaining how it will be completely ‘normal’ if we don’t know the results of the midterms on election night. That is not normal, but the left wants to make it the new normal. Just look at one race as an example, say the Los Angeles mayoral race. On election night, far left nutjob Nithya Raman was in a distant third place, but over the course of a few days and then a couple of weeks, they completely flipped the race. Nithya Raman bumped conservative alternative Spencer Pratt of the ballot and now it’s a contest between Karen Bass and Raman. Far left vs. really far left. Happy Halloween Horde!
There were only about a dozen trick or treaters here tonight, they all got lots of candy. The new neighbors on the street were grilling hot dogs in the driveway and handing them out to folks. Posted by: Debby Doberman Schultz at October 31, 2026 10:54 PM (ibDUx) 111
Campaign Update Time:
What a day. I mentioned a few days ago that I had a bunch of my signs taken off yards and replaced with signs by my opponent. Quite frustrating. Anyway, one of my campaign volunteers decided to put an AirTag inside one of our signs and waited to see what happened. The sign disappeared on Wednesday. The AirTag traced its location to...my opponent's property. Let's just say that hilarity ensued from there: https://tinyurl.com/2ty7dj72 Posted by: Darrell Harris at October 31, 2026 10:55 PM (9TOMd) 112
We had lots of kids trick or treating tonight. We live on a deadend street with only 5 houses. Never had many before. Probably because it's Saturday, no school tomorrow. Posted by: four seasons at October 31, 2026 10:55 PM (/QHx4) Posted by: Hour of the Wolf at October 31, 2026 10:55 PM (qx7Zg) 114
