Beaver AMSR Cafe

edinboroughfromgreyfriars.jpg
Edinburgh Castle as seen from Greyfriar's Cemetery
by Dan Dunlop

Beaver goes munch munch munch.

In Czech Republic, a planned dam had been delayed for seven years do to bureaucratic bungling. A group of beavers built a dam in almost the exact spot the human dam had been planned in a couple of weeks.

A gigantic pumpkin disqualified from a contest for having a soft/rotted part becomes a giant snack for zoo polar bears.

Dogs enjoying water of all kinds.

Woman buys her wienerdog a hotel-style bell, and the dog rings for service every ten seconds. I mean, what did she expect.

Dog raised by bunnies develops some bunny-like behaviors. He likes lettuce. Yuch.

Golden retriever is best friends with bunny.

Poor little dog chases car praying to be adopted.

Baby elephant thinks he's a big man.

The Michael Scofield of hounds.

This weisenheimer's Halloween costume is P. Diddy and a little friend.

Every Tarantino movie explained by the Always Sunny cast.

And how about some badger ASMR?

I'm willing to bet it didn't cost billions of $$$ to do that.

I'm also willing to bet the humans involved in the original project are upset because they didn't get any kickbacks from the beavers.

Chat and I....

Beaver - national animal of Canada?

Yes! The beaver is Canada's official national animal and one of its most recognizable symbols.

It was officially designated a national symbol on March 24, 1975, through the National Symbol of Canada Act.

The North American beaver (Castor canadensis) has been important to Canadian history, particularly through the fur trade.

And here's an interesting distinction: Canada has two official national symbols commonly associated with its identity—the beaver as its national animal and the maple leaf as its national floral emblem.

This is a bit different. Earlier post did not claim Sylvia admitted making the leaks. Axios is claiming he did. Apparently DoW procedures during polygraph require the subject to make an admission before they technically fail. Sylvia failed three times apparently and this means leaks to two reporters--one of which is supposedly Jenn Griffin of Faux News who hates Hegseth and Trump with a thousand burning suns passion.

We got the sleigh bells to hang on the door and taught the dogs to ring them when they needed to go out. One doesn't use them at all. The other one? Guess what he uses them for??

He bats at them when he wants a snack, which is ALL THE DAMN TIME! Something's cooking in the oven? That little bastage is banging those bells until it cools enough for him to have a taste of whatever it is. We created a monster.

By the way...worry about something that may happen 3 months from now and what you'll have to do. That may NEVER happen. So ask yourself what will you do about an alien attack. Aquaman turning evil. Cats and dogs on the rampage.

Equal odds of happening. That shut up an anxiety part of my brain pretty effectively.

There is a "wilderness area" up in the Poconos, designated as the Thunder Swamp, with a series of hiking trails around and within it. It was really a lovely place. Our troop had hiked there two different times over the span from 2000 to 2009. One spot, near to a stream, was a perfect place to camp out overnight. We used it on both trips.

About a decade ago we returned for another camping weekend, but now beavers had dammed that stream. A vast area, including our idyllic camping site, was under water. We had to settle. We've not been back there since.

Other than that, I can work on my projects.

So Walmart and NoFrills in Canada so you can compare. I just like letting all of you know. And I'm thrifty. BUT I spent over $300 at Walmart today and over $200 at NoFrills.

166 >> Sunrise time should be the same across time zones.

Sunrise time is a function of longitude. In fact the definition of local mean solar time is a strong function of longitude. Our hourly time zones correspond to 15 degrees of longitude, centered on certain meridian (and should be 15W, but that varies greatly cause of all the political factors0. Eastern time zone is centered on the 75W meridian.

If you're to the east of that central meridian, sunrise/set and solar noon occur *earlier* per the clock time. If you're to the west of the central meridian, those times occur later.

So, too far west, sunrise comes especially late in winter at high latitudes. Conversely sunset comes too early if you're too far east.

I had a uncle who was quite the curmudgeon and sort of conspiracy minded. "They" were trying to fool him with the DST change into coming to work one hour earlier and quitting one hour earlier.

He would never change his watch or clocks. So during DST, he was always doing 7AM - 4PM and having to mentally adjust any appointment times and all that. And he'd get mixed up occasionally, especially right after the changeovers.

196 When I lived in Colorado, the sun would set just after 4pm in the winter. Sunrise was 8-ish.

Here in Idaho, on the other side of the time zone, it sets a little after 5 (I think), but does not rise until well after 9 am, and with the foothills it's closer to 10 am before we see the sun.

None of it has ever really affected how I sleep, or how my day goes. As I said, just pick one and stick with it.

197 I'm trying to figure out why this isa casahuga thing bothers me when I have no control over it.

198 Polynikes,

See time.gov for the current time zone boundaries (which are a bit odd, and that's politics and local economic ties). In the original scheme, with 15 degree wide zones, standard time would differ from local mean time by no more than +/- 30 minutes. Now, the way it worked out (looking at you Michigan and Indiana) we're a bit wider than 15 degrees, especially with Eastern.

In fact, IIRC, and look at timezone map with the meridians compared, and I think the US scheme is just slightly shifted west too much on average, maybe 15 to 20 minutes for what the ideal would be.

I'm about as far west as can be in EST. For NW Indiana counties that are on CST, which are due south of me, they'd get sunrise around 9AM.

Posted by: 2009Refugee at October 29, 2026 09:38 PM (4HoLg)

200
Go to timeandate.com, which is the most reliable sunrise/set/moon, etc, etc, astronomical etc, etc site there is. Plug in locations and see the sunrise and set times for any of those far western boundaries in Michigan and Indiana.

Look at the latest sunrise time (which will occur in late Dec to early Jan depending on latitude) and you can see how late it can get in those locations per standard zone time.

201 Put me in the "just pick ONE time format, and quit messing with the clocks" camp.

When working, I hated DST. My shift was 5am (sometimes 4am) to 5pm (sometimes 4pm)-- and the sun would be blazing until nearly 10pm.

Blackout curtains. But-- now can't open the windows.
Don't want to open windows anyway, because neighborhood kids out of school & outside playing all evening. Noisy!

So, my own fault for having a shift-job, but everyone needs to earn a living *somehow* right?

Sweet goldens befriend any person or animal. Shelby and a squirrel played for years on the back porch. We had a pool screen and the squirrel messed with him and it was a game. When our sweet Shelby died the squirrel kept looking for him when I went outside to swim laps. He missed our boy, too. Shel-bear was so loved.

That baby boy elephant charging is so cute.

My preference would be go back to Standard Time, which Means Something astronomically and historically, and then every locality can adjust their hours as they like.

You want more time in the evening after work, well, 7-4, or 6-3 hours, whatever you want.

But let mean solar time mean mean solar time (with the time zones, which are necessary, as the railroads discovered).
