The Morning Report — 10/28 /26

Morning Report intro.jpg

Good morning kids.

While there is certainly some good news out there to take heart in and cheer about. Firstly despite some of the savagery that we read about here on a frequent basis, there's this story:

The cause and effect are obvious: The Trump team made fighting crime a top priority — a reversal from the “criminal justice reform” emphasis of Joe Biden and #Defund Democrats — and got the expected results. Per Justice Department’s National Crime Victimization Survey, 2025 saw 2.16 million violent incidents — down from 2.83 million in 2024, for the largest single-year drop since 1973. . . . Democrat mayors are trying to claim credit for last year’s marked decline in violent crime, yet the staggering 25% drop was nationwide and came in the first year of President Donald Trump’s new term. The cause and effect are obvious: The Trump team made fighting crime a top priority — a reversal from the “criminal justice reform” emphasis of Joe Biden and #Defund Democrats — and got the expected results.

And despite the ups and downs of oil and energy prices as a result of the ongoing conflict with Iran, it ultimately will stabilize and no doubt drop to lower costs as it has always done in the past in the wake of the geopolitical crisis du jour that caused the spike in the first place. So on that note, there's this item.

President Donald Trump will announce an EPA proposal on Tuesday evening gutting Biden-era regulations that placed strict limits on methane emissions from oil and gas drilling operations, the Washington Free Beacon has learned.

Methane is released during the flaring of natural gas, which takes place at oil drilling operations that lack expensive capture technology. For years, environmentalists and Democrats have called for stricter regulations, including rules barring flaring, that target methane, which activists refer to as a "super pollutant" and is more potent than carbon dioxide.

Overall, Tuesday's action removing methane regulations—which represents the latest major energy-related announcement Trump has made in the run-up to the upcoming midterm election—is projected to save Americans $45 billion in energy costs and lead to an extra 210 million barrels of oil and 1.41 trillion cubic feet of natural gas produced nationwide, a Trump EPA official briefed on the announcement told the Free Beacon.

Oh please. This is an abject crock of shit. If methane were so lethal then how is it that the human population jumped to roughly 8 billion from an estimated 1.25 billion in 1850, which was about the start of the Industrial Revolution, when oil, coal and natural gas were produced and burned wherever civilization and human progress progressed!

Therefore, If you love your children burn fossil fuels.

Here’s a question someone should ask climate expert Greta Thunberg today. What if global warming is preventing the next ice age? Wouldn’t that be a good thing for children everywhere?
Turns out, a new study published in the highly respected journal Science says that might be exactly what’s happening right now.
The study, which goes by the unassuming title of “Late Holocene re-expansion of the Laurentide Ice Sheet,” asks whether “anthropogenic warming prevented the next glacial cycle” and finds that “it may have done just that.”

Of course all of this sanity could come screeching to a halt should the midterms be whole or in part taken by the Dems and certainly should a non-MAGA aligned Republican not come out on top in 2028 and for every election afterwards and our educational system not be purged of the Leftists from Pre-K through Post-Graduate.

And when I say the midterms TAKEN by the Dems I mean that quite literally.

In a 2-1 decision handed down Monday, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals denied the Justice Department’s emergency request to pull those ballots out of the count while the voters’ eligibility is reviewed. The majority wrote that the government’s urgency was partly of its own making. Judge Patrick Bumatay dissented, arguing the federal government has a sovereign interest in protecting federal elections.

The fight started October 15, when the DOJ sued California over a list of more than 20,000 registered voters that federal agencies had flagged as likely noncitizens. Prosecutors wanted the state to verify each name or keep those ballots separate from the rest. California refused, disputing both the underlying data and the short deadline it was given.

Federal prosecutor Bill Essayli said the state made a stunning admission at a hearing a day earlier. According to Essayli, California told the court it does nothing to independently check the citizenship of its voters, and that any ballot already cast by a noncitizen would be counted if the judges did not step in. He said that is why his office asked for the emergency order, arguing that illegal votes dilute legal ones.

And so it goes my friends...

A free people keeps the means to defend its own, and the Second Amendment is the insurance policy I'm glad we never cancelled. . . My oldest son graduated from West Point, and the other two are still in college. I’d like all three to inherit a country that still knows what it is and still enforces its own rules. The studio always releases the trailer before the feature. Europe’s trailer is playing now, and we still hold the pen on the sequel. A free people keeps the means to defend itself, and the Second Amendment is the insurance policy I’m glad we never canceled.

On that somewhat mouth-watering essay I bid you all to have a good day.

    ABOVE THE FOLD, BREAKING, NOTEWORTHY

  • From Omar to Michigan, the stakes are rising.
    The Obama Endgame
  • Democrat mayors are trying to claim credit for last year’s marked decline in violent crime, yet the staggering 25% drop was nationwide and came in the first year of President Donald Trump’s new term. The cause and effect are obvious: The Trump team made fighting crime a top priority — a reversal from the “criminal justice reform” emphasis of Joe Biden and #Defund Democrats — and got the expected results.
Crime’s way down thanks to Trump — Dems will fight to send it back up

JJ… I’m not so sure that the Iran situation is really the major thing driving energy prices at this point. I think a bigger culprit is the Ukraine conflict with both sides blowing up the other’s energy infrastructure… which I think is why diesel prices are so high now.

15 Methane is considered a short-lived climate pollutant, with an average atmospheric lifetime of about 12 years. This is significantly shorter than the lifetime of carbon dioxide, which can persist for centuries.

EPA decided that controlling methane would stop global warming in the near term.

Methane emissions from natural wetlands exceeds one-third of global budget. Termites, lakes, oceans, wildfires account for another ten-percent or more. Rice cultivation is between 5-8%.

So likely converting wetlands into rice fields or into something the Environmentalists hate brought down methane. Adding humans increased landfill and sewage (now 10-13%). Swapping out millions of bison for cattle is probably a wash.

I don't know what Taco Bell's contribution is, but I'm sure its significant.

24 President Trump did a great job with the SAVE Act. He pushed it well, pressured the Republican-controlled Congress to pass it, but they didn't.

I can't blame President Trump for it.

But I can blame the Republican Congress for it. And since they are unwilling to do what is necessary to protect free and fair elections, then they must lose. Because they are the enemy of the citizens, along with their Democrat cohorts.

The standardized difference between Minnesota Somali and U.S. White composite scores is estimated at about 0.99 standard deviations, with a tentative endorsement of roughly 0.99 after a 50% correction for English language familiarity.

So actually around 2 standard deviations.

46 Blaming the entire Republican Party for the deceit and corruption of a few is a mistake. There are plenty of good Republicans in DC. The SAVE Act did pass the House. The problem is a few fake Republicans in the Senate. Lisa Murkowski just endorsed a Democrat for governor of Alaska. Tillis is gone. Cornyn is gone.

Some guy I've never heard of has started running ads touting himself as the right choice over "hand-picked" Darline Graham and the Democrat. 68 Much of the GOP is pathetic, fair enough. But when it’s general election time, it is absolutely essential to vote for even the scummiest republican because the Dem they’re running against is even worse. The purity tests only apply in primaries. Susan Collins drives me nuts but she voted for Kavanaugh and she’s better by far than the commie sympathizer Jackson.

One exception to this rule might be Murkowski but I believe she labels herself an independent now. Even with her, at the very least she caucuses with the republicans so she helps keep the chamber in the right hands (note: not an endorsement of Thune is a recognition that Schumer is controlled by commies)

Posted by: Community Notes

De Tocqueville does not say that. What he did say when he observed the politics in US during his visit is that there were no great political parties in the US at that time but were in the past. Tocqueville's observations are useful in many cases but his view that political parties in his day in the US were transactional comes from a Euro tradition where there was the king's party supporting the aristos and the opposition (that is where he gets his great principled party idea). Think Tories and Whigs in Britain.

Mencken was a misanthrope and hardly a systematic political philosopher. Mills had his own issues and was essentially a hot house thinker with little actual contact with the politics of his time.

I would recommend reading James Madison (associated works) and John Adams (Defense of the Constitutions of the United States books) instead. Both wrestle with human nature, past American experiences, and placing the US in context among the great debates on politics since ancient Greece.

I doubt you can ever get a 'benevolent dictator' because there is no escape from 'politics'. A dictator can 'freeze' normal politics for a time but they all die eventually and politics resumes whether you are discussing Franco, Pinochet, etc. etc. because there is no permanent victory in politics whether communists, etc.

Eventually internal contradictions cause all government regimes to fail but a system that builds in local autonomy and flexibility through multiple redundancy, um, much like Federalism, fares better to recover faster from a regime failure than any centralized system in the long run. Has to do with a pool of leadership.

167 Notice: No one is talking about FL potentially being close anymore.

Why? Because there's no game to play with party flags from primary participation. There's just party registration.

And the picture in early voting in FL is very, very stark. FL Republicans already have a lead in early voting, and voting day is going to be heavily Republican. The Democrats have no chance.

What are the odds that Texas, which is almost as far to the right as Florida is, is so completely different that Democrats win statewide there for the first time in more than 30 years?

About a couple of bishops complaining about being used by Trump.

You can be a deeply flawed person and still be a great leader (e.g. King David). You can be a perfectly nice person and lead people to moral catastrophe. Their Excellencies took Trump to task over immigration. Trump isn't stopping immigration, he's enforcing the laws that we have. I regularly see whiny-ass statements that if you don't support more welfare spending, you're not a good Christian. But nobody is suggesting we let people starve or die. We're talking shades, not colors.

But, for Catholics, you cannot vote for a candidate - no matter how "nice" otherwise - who espouses objectively wrong policies like abortion or homosexual marriage, completely contrary to doctrine. But you never hear of bishops condemning Democratic politicians for whom these are political dogma.

Constitution requires charges be brought in the jurisdiction where the crime was committed. A defendant can ask for a change of venue but not the prosecution. But, a refusal to indict by a grand jury is not the end of it as a future grand jury with more information submitted can indict. Double jeopardy does not attach to a particular grand jury's refusal to indict.

Your Texas voting appearances/participations are public record. If you've voted in a Primary, which party's primary is also public record. So while there's no party registration for a Texas voter, your (meta?) record is available to do algebra on.

"Past performance is no guarantee of future results."

This morning, Harris County has reported that 742,000 early voters have shown up at the polls through yesterday. For comparison, about 205,000 early voters showed up in November 2025, and 1,176,000 early voters showed up for November 2024.

That assumes that the Benevolent Dictator also "freezes" normal politics. Obama's and Biden's Handlers/Auto-Pen, and PDJT each managed to transform the political environment. The former by brute force and the police powers of the state, the latter by a mix of police powers (expelling illegal aliens) pacifying the Western Hemisphere, SoH, and via decentralization and deregulation.

In two years, there has been a huge transformation in Babylon DC. Imagine what life would be like with the removal of the tyrannical judges and gross levels of fraud that have bankrupted and demoralized the nation. When the Dictator leaves, they leave a different environment behind.

You are talking about placeholders that freeze things for a few years.

201 Automated license plate readers have become a political flashpoint. No one talks about the dozens of children they’ve rescued.

You can also argue that if the Gov't could intrude into everybody's home, like the CCP does, you could save even more children. The left has used the trope of "even if it saves one child" as an excuse to go after each and every one of our freedoms, especially our 2nd Amendment God-given right of self-protection. Gov't cannot be trusted; Gov't is only interested in its own power.
It's also our selfsame Gov't that also allowed illegal children to be trafficked by purposefully not following up on what happened to them. That allowed for the transgendering of children while hiding it from parents, or worse, taking away parental rights in the name of greedy hospitals.

People used to read anthologies and genre writers could place decent paying stories in publications at the time whether in Mystery, Sci Fi, or Fantasy. Those have disappeared along with most magazines nowadays.

Perhaps they will return, mebbe they will not. And writers who are doing it for a living or even as a side gig are not going to do much with short stories that don't pay as they often take as much if not longer time to polish than a book does.

I am aware of the constraints on writers but serialization means inevitably you start getting repetition, regurgitation of past events in other books, and a stacking effect where the challenges have to get greater and greater. That in part is why a fair chunk of serials deal with a military career as they rise in rank (or like Monster Hunter world or Jim Butcher's Dresden series, a career type progression where the threats get greater and greater scaling upwards to "ludicrous speed)".

Turnout in 2024 will be higher than turnout in 2026, yes.

However, the senate race will drive turnout in Texas up and drag the national average up as well. Contentious senate races juice turnout in the states that have them to the point where they often become 80-90% turnout of the presidential election.

Yes, it will be high turnout this year in Texas, a state that went Trump+14.

Took over a decade for repeated insolence and mistreatment by Britain to create enough dissatisfied people to strike out for independence.

Carney is leading Canada into a financial implosion as he is destroying existing markets for Canadian goods in the US without an adequate replacement as neither EU nor China want competition for their own economies.

Things are going to get much worse economically in Canada until they figure out how to replace the US as a market. The obverse is simply not nearly as big an issue for the US as we are seeing.

289 280 The purposefully bad polling is part of an attempted Color Revolution. It's gotten histrionic with increasingly absurd claims.

Meanwhile, I'm seeing believable news about how many Jews are now voting Republican.

=====

1. The Israeli polls were hilariously off. I guess we're supposed to see riots that lead to communist utopia any moment now in Tel Aviv.

2. Ethnic polling is...fraught with problems. Has been for years. Stemming from the fact that it's REALLY hard to get representative samples. With the Jewish population, I'd suspect it's damn near impossible. I take that result with a big grain of salt.

291 270 I saw the stupidest defense of Nate "insider trading" Silver.

See, he may miss elections, the defense went, but he is dead-on with his "vibes" every time.
Which proof cited is, in the elections he missed, he hedged his predictions, which hedge turned out correct, so that means he accurately tapped into the "vibe."
Uh-huh.

See if you can guess where this "defense" is going?

If you guessed, "and this election, he's seeing no "vibe" for the Rs" you'd be right.

(Even though, like every year, Nate has already hedged his predictions for this year)

Sean Trende has put on a clown nose now too because his job at RCP depends on him defending the idiotic averaging techniques of Real Clear Politics as mass media pollsters quickly figured out by throwing in outlier polls, they could move the average to Democrats while there are no GOP equivalent pollsters producing similar outliers.

He's in a position to actually try and enforce some change.

Only including good pollsters, for instance. That was his mantra and what built up the RCP aggregate as worthwhile.

But he includes Baris in his averages, and Baris probably doesn't even poll at all.

And Trende's defense of the polling industry has gotten comical at this point. "Just throw completely contradictory results in the average because who knows?"

I agree with everything you wrote.

After losing employment and taking SS, I've dabbled in writing as I've said here before.

There is almost no place to send short stories anymore. I had one contest winner - thanks to people here - that was going to be published, but the editor's wife got sick and the magazine was shut down. I get nothing now from it.

I don't like the idea of series either as I see it as a cheap way to write. But, the market is dictating otherwise as this time, so I have five books I'm writing in the same universe. Don't like it, but have no choice.*

*Except with the cost of self-publishing, they may never see the light of day. (shrug)

In this case, it is due primarily to GOPe senators that refuse to recess allowing Trump to fill in offices in blue areas and the idiotic blue slip policy that Grassley follows in the Senate Judiciary that permits Senate Democrats to veto all Trump appointees in their state preventing the GOP Senate from voting to fill them.

The probably unconstitutional law (after the Slaughter decision) allowing judges to fill DA vacancies then would never have come into play absent the disgusting turds of the Senate Leadership and their cowardly cronies in the caucus letting them refuse to recess.
