The Four Awakens: If you have a device running the GoAhead embedded web server - which you might be, because there are reportedly hundreds of millions of these, though less than a million connected directly to the internet - there's an unwelcome surprise on one of the security modes: Four. (FoxIO)

Yes, it's back. Though this time it's a bit of a guessing game; instead of using a 2048-bit (256 byte) key, it actually uses an 8-bit key.

Oh, and it only really uses three of those eight bits; only eight values are possible - 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, and 128.

Felt very good about being a voting poll observer here yesterday in Israel. No digital voting or ballot reading or punching machines. Simple paper slips with each party's registered acronym on one side.

Each polling station has a committee who have to follow strict rules and keep an eye on everything and each other in check, if need be. Observers get to watch each voter go behind a booth, request to see that enough ballot slips remain in their trays and, should there be an objection, it must be registered in a protocol log.

Each voter is verified with valid national ID and verification by 2 committee members that they are registered to vote at this station. Envelopes for voting slips are co-signed by 2 committee members before being handed to a voter.

The vote counting after 10PM is very strict. Everything is double-verified by all present.

Got home at 20 minutes after midnight. Observers in some stations don't get home till 4AM, depending on number of votes in station and vote validation issues.

This is what any country with voting standards needs to revert to!

18 Morning, everyone. So last night I was tempted to ditch class because I was absolutely exhausted. But I have the mindset that the more you don't want to work out, the better things are when you go.

My Aikido school operates out of a rec center attached to an elementary school. When we arrived, we discovered that our parking lot had been taken over by a Trunk or Treat event. Teacher called the county rec department and the answer was "Oh, they'll be done by 0645!" (Our class starts at 7).

We ended up parking in a section that had not been taken over and we had a new student show up. So things worked out.

According to various spots around the 'Net, the purpose of Nat'l Black Cat Day is in part to raise awareness of their low adoption rate as well as to dispel old superstitions. Personally, I think a black cat is usually a good bet as a companion. I've known three well, and they've all been easygoing and adaptable, and possibly smarter than average. Of course they were medium- or long-hairs.

The SPCA and shelters here used to have a rule, no black cat adoptions during October. Now they often offer specials on black cats all year 'round.
