Saturday Substitute Music Thread - October 24, 2026 [TRex]

10242026-baseball.jpg

Looks like we need a music thread for the Hobby Thread afterparty and Club ONT pre-party. As a dinosaur with a small brain and short arms, I can't carry a tune or keep a beat, but I'm impressed but others that can.

Shall we talk tunes?

How about a baseball theme since we're in the midst of the World Series?

"Take me out to the ballgame" from Luke Combs:

"Willie, Mickey, and the Duke" from Terry Cashman:

"Centerfield" by John Fogerty:

"Take me out to the Ballgame" led by Harry Caray at a Cubs game:

"The Cheap Seats" from Alabama:

"Enter Sandman" by Metallica for Mariano Rivera for the last time:

What songs am I missing? Glory Days by Springsteen is a candidate but my fingers somehow won't include a link. Weird.

Usual rules apply. Pants are optional. Be nice to your fellow commenters and AoS contributors. If you're a troll, go away. Remember, there's no crying in blogging.

What we sing of von Tilzer's "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" is just the chorus.

Katie Casey was baseball mad,
Had the fever and had it bad.
Just to root for the home town crew,
Ev'ry sou
Katie blew.
On a Saturday her young beau
Called to see if she'd like to go
To see a show, but Miss Kate said "No,
I'll tell you what you can do:"

Phil Rizzuto doing the play-by-play. Story goes they gave him the script and recorded it in a separate session. He had no idea what the song was about. Given that Meatloaf was not very well known at the time, it sort of tracks, and Phil would readily admit to not being too quick on the uptake..

I blame them for taking a perfectly OK little song and turning it into the worse call-and-response cacophony ever. If it had stayed in the stadium, that would be one thing but now it's inescapable.

Not sure if the Red Sox can be blamed for starting that one. My first exposure to it was at a bar in Surf City, NJ circa 1980. The resident act was a guy named Jackie Vee. He also did a version of My Girl and coached the crowd to provide hand motions during the chorus. What can I say? The chicks dug it and that was enough for me..

47 It's not a song, but there's a video out there somewhere of Norm MacDonald telling Bob Uecker stories. I'll see if I can find it again. It is hilarious as only Norm can be.

53 It's kinda fun when a theme song plays as a certain player comes to bat. Several years ago they played Baby Shark whenever Gerado Parra was up. Started because his 2 year old loved the song and the team plated it for a joke. It became an anthem for the Nats that year they won the Series.

Speedball was Heroin or morphine plus some sort of methamphetamine.
It replaced the term "goofballs" which was barbiturates and some upper like Benzedrine

64 I got didn't get to post during the hobby thread, but when we moved down to the Texas coastal prairie over 7 years ago I didn't know nuthin' bout cotton. That you tube about harvesting cotton was very interesting. During the first cotton harvesting month, I was racing up and down I59 from Houston to down here and I started thinking that rural Texas was really trashy! It looked like paper was thrown out all over the highway. It took a few weeks before I realized what I thought was paper all over the highway was actually cotton!
