Glue issue, brand permitting; Take top (nozzle) off, rinse it clear, take a piece of Sarah Ann Wrap and place it over the opening then screw the top nozzle part on. Viola and cellos too.

That's why superglue is sold in itty bitty two packs.
2 uses. I have used them a second time, but rarely. We do a lot of our own engine work. Gasket maker is the same thing. I end up poking a hole in the tube side to get a second use out of it. Sometimes we have 3 or 4 holes all over that cheap sucker. Costs more to go get more than to use it all up. Posted by: MkY at October 25, 2026 02:05 PM (ik4bQ) 6
I'm surprised there is no warning on that tube for the "Tide Pod" generation telling them it's not for brushing their teeth.

Yup. I buy that stuff and CA glue in the tiny, slightly more than single-use, packs. I realize that I'm paying 10X as much for the packaging as for the product but at least I usually have a usable tube when I need it.

I had to get a new can opener from Amazon. Even scrubbing with SOS pads couldn't clean what I had. I'll have to wash this one after every use.
And I took my car out of the garage so I could mow lawns. The battery died. Less than 80,000 miles. Of course the car is 11 years old, that was the original battery and the car has only about 132,000 kms. So I guess that was a good run. Posted by: Stateless - Ralphy - 106 years old! Ratcheting breaker bar attachments are used with battery powered drills to start small engines. Need it. Bought it. A tool to chuck it up in the drill with a ½” square drive is necessary. Bought it. It’s ready to go. Nope. All the ½” drives around this place are SAE and the stupit flywheel nut is metric, 24mm the caliper says. Bought that socket . Now I’m cookin’. The fundamental problem with glues is that they're made to set, and you need them to set ... right after you use them, and not before. No chemicals you put into a tube are really going to behave that way, though. They have a short shelf life. Buy smaller tubes.

The re-sealable packaging, with the easy-open tear strips, are really one of the miniscule wonders of the modern world. Very convenient in many ways. But in recent years, a weird trend. They don't work. Meaning you rarely can open them without a scissors, and they won't reseal without an inordinate amount of effort. Varies by brand. Some haven't changed. Just wonder about those that have. Poor material? Poor manufacturing? It's truly a First World Problem, but encounter it almost daily, so pretty annoying. I've purchased little tubes of superglue that were already dried upon opening. My best experience has been with the tube that has a spring-loaded stopper that moved into the opening after each use. The limitation there is when working on something soft, like a sandal, and you can't exert sufficient downward force to move the stopper..

Gorilla Super Glue GEL is the best by far.
The gel form makes it much easier to control--you can drop a dab of it on a piece of paper and use a toothpick to apply it to even the tiniest places, or just use it from the applicator tip. Also, it keeps for months without the top clogging up. I go through at least one bottle a month. It's spendy--about $6 or $7 for a tiny bottle, but it goes a long way without the waste of most other super glues. Posted by: IrishEi ?! at October 25, 2026 02:28 PM (3ImbR) 55

Tangential to this issue, but in the spirit of:
If you have ever used POR15 paint, you know it works very well, is expensive, and is wont to harden in the can once opened. I have had great success preserving it by filling the airspace in the can with CO2 from the gas tank on my MIG welder. Put the lid on loosely, flip one side up, introduce the MIG nozzle, and let a stream of gas run for ten seconds or so. Displaces air the the can, getting rid of oxygen and moisture than can catalyze POR15 into hardening in the can. If you don't have a welding cylinder handy, one of those "air duster" aerosol cans might work, too. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at October 25, 2026 02:30 PM (1z+WB) 60

OK, since we are talking packaging.
You get something like say dog treats. You get the bigger size because you work out you save literally pennies on the dollar by buying the larger size. OK. You get the resealable package one. The one where you tear open, but it has a built in zip lock closure. And then, before you have distributed or consumed the contents, the ziploc closure separates from the inner wall of the container. This has happened with numerous products I have gotten. Almost to the point that I have said fuck the original bag and just opened new, transferred to gallon zip loc, then thrown away original packaging. We shouldn't have to live like this. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at October 25, 2026 02:33 PM (eRlcH) Alkaline batteries are routinely used in equipment that must be used outdoors in sub-zero weather. They work. Output will be reduced, because cold slows chemical reactions, but they will work. And once rewarmed, they return to their nominal capacity. A fully-charged flooded lead-acid battery (your car) will survive any cold that North America can throw at it. But should it be exposed to sub-zero weather while discharged, it will freeze and split the case, guaranteed. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at October 25, 2026 02:39 PM (1z+WB) 79

Thanks Aetius, IrishEi, bluebell for confirming I'm not imagining these food packaging problems.
Again, I find them mysterious. The very excellent designs that worked for years now ...... just don't work. Has to be quality of materials or QC of manufacture, logically speaking? And ditto Irish and bluebell about the wrapping on many comparatively fragile items like cookies or crackers. Some are still great - open with your hands, they peel apart and you can easily transfer contents to airtight containers. Others? Need a scissors. And that's not the end of the problems. They don't naturally tear apart even after opening. Gotta think packaging goes through evaluation and QC for design and manufacturing, same as the contents. WTF, America? Will reprise my whine from last week (I think), as it was about packaging. Not glue, food. Cheese, deli meats, etc.
Posted by: rhomboid at October 25, 2026 02:27 PM (U/Byj) My similar complaint is meat that is packed in a plastic tray sealed with a plastic top that is form-fitted to the meat. I see it most often when I get lamb chops. Slicing through the plastic requires a box cutter, or a very sharp paring knife, which you will need to resharpen after opening two or three of those infernal packages.. When the machines are brand new and set up perfectly the bags come out perfect every time. Then as time goes on and more and more maintenance schedules are skipped because they don’t want to shit the machines down, the entire process gets out of alignment are your bags are getting glued in the wrong place or the zipper breaks and everything goes tits up.
