What happens when a lefty believe their own propaganda about the ease of buying a gun? This, this happens:
@ginamilan_ 🚨 Florida attorney Lisa C. White has been arrested and is being held without bond in Mississippi after threatening to kill ICE agents. According to the criminal complaint, White went to a gun store in Long Beach on September 23, identified herself as an activist and protester, and said she wanted to purchase a firearm to kill ICE agents. She reportedly asked whether the guns could penetrate body armor, adding that if they couldn’t, she would aim for the head, shoulder, arm, or leg. Store employees refused to complete the sale and reported the incident to authorities. White has been a member of The Florida Bar since 1995 and previously practiced law in Broward County. Yeah, the Baseball hall of fame is ridiculous. First of all, it has absolutely not "legitimate" connection to Major League Baseball, which seems to be a contradiction within itself.
If you look at their finances (which you can since they claim to be operated as a Non-profit)....they seem suspect. Supposedly, they have about 250,000 visitors annually, along with special events like induction ceremonies and exhibition games. They list their revenue as follows: Total Annual Rev: $17.16 Million Operating expenses: $16.48 Million (yeah...right) Reinvested surplus: $683,112 Total employees: 236 (that seems high for the size of the place) Posted by: Orson at October 21, 2026 10:18 PM (dIske) 59

Went to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto years ago. Was good. The Cup was on display, if I recall correctly - or maybe just the retired rings full of names? Anyway, was fun to try to spot the fake names (guys who weren't on the team but had their names engraved, in the early wild years). And also to find one name that was real, dad of a guy on my recreational team who was a Bruins pillar during the Orr years.

Much more fun to be had at the eateries and honky-tonks. Have done Cooperstown back in the last Century. The Hall was okay ... highlight for me was the Honus Wagner card. Heh, I was the only one to stop and look at it. The ball field was open and a person could walk around, see how small it was, admire the stream ... I didn't walk the base-paths. Maybe a sense of respect/awe?? Don't know. I believe the field's locked down these days. A real shame if that's true. I came away with a real sense of a "smaller" game, much more personal and alive, kind of thing.

Mr Aspirin Factory, it really is. Names of the winning players forever etched on the trophy (well, it's stand). Over a century old. Nothing else like it.
And, even before the 10-month 127 game seasons, one of the toughest trophies to win (of course all major sports competitions at top-level are incredibly difficult, a universe beyond what normal people can imagine). Also - and I hope this is continuing - a cultural/social treasure being chased by the players. Still remember a story in the WaPo, 90s?, sports writer rode the bus with the Bruins, who'd just eliminated the Caps (SOP back then) in the semis, I think. Writer asked some of the players - so how much do you get ($) for winning this round? Empty stares. "We don't know. We want to win the Cup". They wanted the ring, their name on the Cup. Certainly an artifact of hockey's social origins in that era (predominantly Canadian kids from middle or working class backgrounds, from small towns). Very striking. I saw Van Gogh's Starry Night up close and personal at the Met Museum in NYC. The paint was thick with a pallette (I guess, maybe his tongue or nose as he was in the asylum). No glass barrier at the time to keep tomato juice from thugs. Just me and that painting.
The type of painting is called impasto. I'd never seen anything like it before and stared a long time in surprise. In places the paint was at least .5" thick. I used to spend days alone in the Met when my dude went to NYC on business. I loved it. Read a book about his sister-in-law, Johanna Van Gogh Bonger (fiction) called The Secret Life of Sunflowers, written by Marta Molnar. A good book. Van Gogh's SIL is who made him famous by selling his art after his death. His art was rejected by the Paris Salon of the time of Post Impressionalism. He only sold one painting...to his brother. However, he kept on painting in his unique fashion, while dealing with depression and poverty. At his funeral, and he had few friends, people were offered a painting for free and they rejected them, thinking they were worthless. You're the Sabres fan right? Just FYI, back in the early 90s, in Russia (Far East), I actually used a discussion of hockey, specifically Alexander Mogilny, to break the ice (groan) with a Russian MinDef guy whose facility we needed to use. Mogilny was the star of the Far East elite Soviet team, Central Army Sports Club/Khabarovsk. When I mentioned I'd seen him several times in the NHL, the conversation just changed. (For others - Mogilny was the first Soviet hockey defector, always wore #87, for the year he went on the lamb in Sweden) The NGO guy whose operations needed the warehouse asked me after "WT hell were you guys talking about?". JQ - yeah, electrical, and yeah, the other large burner works fine, if I don't see any damage to the socket (or some simple fix like a loose wire) after I drop the belly-pan I can try that swap. Unfortunately it's one where I have to go in from underneath to service. My biggest complaint about the design, honestly... well, that, and the fact that they didn't put the two large and two small on the same sides, they did them alternating, so it's terrible for things like two-burner griddles.

Haitian mobsters kidnapped four El Salvadorans who were piloting a humanitarian mission. Buckele published a note to the mobsters, in part:
- But I want you, the gang leaders, to understand something clearly: today’s attack is nothing in front of what is coming if you do not hand over the four hostages alive. And don’t take our words for baseless threats. We already end up with the gangs in El Salvador, and you can end up with us too. You still have time to avoid that. - Naiy Buckele https://tinyurl.com/ykchr4wu Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at October 21, 2026 11:35 PM (vOxCS) 248
