Hah!

I think this is a fine painting....portraits of wealthy donors made to look grand are fun, but painting reality so well shows talent.

33 He’s thin, but still muscular and has that look of a man who didn’t sit at a desk all day, but rather worked manual labor. His whole body has earned the rest he will soon be blessed with.

From Chat....

Sitting Old Man Nude is a striking figure study by Slovenian painter Anton Ažbe (1862–1905), an influential artist and art teacher. Rather than idealizing the human body, Ažbe portrays an elderly man with realism and sensitivity, emphasizing the effects of age through his posture, skin, and physical form.

The painting demonstrates Ažbe’s skill in observing anatomy, light, and shadow while capturing the quiet dignity of an ordinary human subject. It reflects his belief in painting directly from life and his commitment to honest, expressive realism.

Posted by: Piper at October 20, 2026 09:48 AM (ZdaMQ)

62 Not something I would hang. It's a little too close to the reality of a man aging to be comfortable for a guy well over 29. But the accuracy of the physique, the bent posture and the skin tones speak of a huge talent. The emotional impact of a man, previously tall and muscular, surrendering to loss and age is unavoidable.

It reminds me of Rodin's sculpture The Old Courtesan (La Belle qui fut heaulmière).

87 From wiki:
Anton Ažbe (30 May 1862 – 5 or 6 August 1905) was a Slovene realist painter and teacher of painting. Ažbe, crippled since birth and orphaned at the age of eight, learned painting as an apprentice to Janez Wolf and at the Academies in Vienna and Munich. At the age of 30, Ažbe founded his own school of painting in Munich that became a popular attraction for Eastern European students.

125 Family values.

Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton’s own mother urges voters not to vote for her daughter.
“My name is Donna Arthur and I’m Amy Acton’s mother. I worked at Children and Family Service Association, building one of the first two sexual abuse programs in America.
I love my daughter, but when I saw her lying about her opponent—and it’s not easy for a mother to say this—but Amy has a serious problem.
She is a liar. She lies about her past. She says she grew up living in a tent. None of that is true. She’s lied her entire life.
My daughter needs help, and she can’t help you if she needs help herself. People can change, but first they have to tell the truth, and my daughter still isn’t doing that.
Don’t vote for people who lie. Don’t let her become your governor. If you think she’ll make your life better, you’re fooling yourself. It will only get worse.”
