Wynton Marsalis covered all the bases. Race. His role in New Orleans’s removal of Confederate statues last year. His deep antipathy to rap and hip-hop. And the damage he believes the genres inflict on African Americans. “I feel that that’s much more of a racial issue than taking Robert E. Lee’s statue down,” Marsalis told me in the latest episode of “Cape Up.” “There’s more niggers in that than there is in Robert E. Lee’s statue.”I am also disturbed by young non-black kids imitating black gang culture. And I was horrified to hear a non-black neighbor, a fairly regular guy, casually listening to gangsta rap with his friend in the presence of their eight year old daughters. Worse language about women than anything at Cornell. I said something.

Defeated at the Battle of Bemis Heights, surrounded, and greatly outnumbered, British general John Burgoyne surrendered his 6,300-man army on this day in 1777. The campaign that he had so confidently begun four months earlier, had ended disastrously for him. For the victorious Patriots, it was a desperately needed success, crushing the British attempt to isolate New England and leading directly to the crucial American alliance with France. The terms of the surrender provided that Burgoyne’s disarmed army would march to Boston, where it would be allowed to board ships and return to Great Britain, on the condition that none of the surrendered men were to participate further in the war. Congress objected strenuously, however, when the terms became known, protesting that there could be no assurance the British would honor them and that even if they did the surrendered men could simply take the place of other British garrisons which could then be sent to America. So before allowing the British soldiers to leave, Congress required that Parliament explicitly ratify the agreement. But because Great Britain did not recognize the validity of the U.S. government, it would not formally enter into any official agreement with it. That being exactly what Congress had expected, Burgoyne’s men (who came to be called "the Convention Army" ) were treated as prisoners of war, kept initially in Massachusetts and ultimately in barracks in Albemarle County, Virginia. The fascinating story of the “Convention Army” will be a Dose for another day. The painting is “The Surrender of General Burgoyne” by John Trumbull. Completed in 1821, it hangs in the Rotunda of the United States Capitol. ![]() Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

There are a lot of horrifying songs in all genres if you listen to the lyrics. Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at October 17, 2026 11:14 AM (l3cgK) --- It's important to understand that there has been a significant rupture in Democrat Party politics. The part of 1980 was dominated by liberal leaders, but much of it was working class and religious, gun owners and fierce anti-communists. The old "Scoop Jackson" wing. The parties differed on tax rates and welfare, but Reagan could get a lot done with conservative Democrats providing a working majority for his policies. Everyone slagging on Reagan has to remember that the Dems held the House for both of his terms, and had for decades. The modern Democrats are Marxists, pagan and atheist. Yes, there are still Boomer Catholics who vote Democrat and imagine JFK is on the ballot, but they are a fading generation. The Millenials were raised on it, like we were rock and roll. It topped the charts for 20 years but began a decline around 2020. This year rap fell off the Billboard Hot 100 Top 40. A lot of people still listen to rap/hip-hop , obviously, but there's some hope other genres can get some plays & clicks & listens and we can have a culture with more than three types of popular music; Diva, Country & Rap, being listened to again. That's why I liked the 80s & 90s, there was such a wide variety of music to choose from at the time. Posted by: SpeakingOf at October 17, 2026 11:30 AM (6ydKt) 28
repeat suggestion (from Coffee Thread)
@191 EMPLOYMENT AGENCIES -- TEMPORARY Temp agencies are used by many corporations to "hire" people rather than burdening their internal H.R. departments to go through the screening process ... The corporation sends job descriptions and compensation information to a temp agency, who then searches its pool of registered job seekers for the best match* ... Typically, job seekers are given the opportunity to work inside the corporation (and be paid week-by-week) and, if the corporation finds the job seeker to be a good fit, then an offer for permanent employment is made ... *Because the temp agency will be paid small fees for weekly assignments and lump-sum fees for permanent employment. As to the goal, there is no goal. The objective is revolution, that is to say chaos, because it is antithetical go God. Once you understand that that politics is no longer about policy differences but instead spiritual warfare, things make much more sense.
The pagan gods were real entities, fallen angels who set themselves up as rivals to God. In a secular age, they are making a comeback in various guises, but they are the same creatures. Cybele - the Devouring Mother - is blatantly obvious at this point. Orgiastic rites, child sacrifice, self-castration - it could not be more obvious. You cannot argue with such people, you can only convert them or defeat them. I am very encouraged to see so many young people finding God again. The tide is turning, but the battle has yet to be won. The good news is we know who wins in the end: God. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at October 17, 2026 11:34 AM (ZOv7s) 30

Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at October 17, 2026 11:26 AM (ZOv7s) Quite a few decisions from the Supremes (after FDR got his way and seeded SCOTUS) went against the spirit and letter of the Constitution with a Socialist bent. That was in the 1930's, about 90 years ago. You are right that the majority back then were NOT pagans and atheists, but enough were in key positions that were socialists and fascists. "Gabriel Over the White House", released in 1933, is what they wanted back then: A president who forces Congress to adjourn and takes dictatorial powers in the name of "doing the greatest good for the greatest number.". Gee, where have I heard this rhetoric before. Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at October 17, 2026 11:43 AM (l3cgK) 35
