Musical Interlude

It's the same song as this day last year. YouTube is playing up for me right now, so I can't easily search for a new one.

Disclaimer: But it's a good song.

11 I worked on product development at a large company more than once in my working years. I knew the product we were developing was a bust, but being a loyal engineer, I plowed ahead with no one listening in the higher authority. Sure enough, the customers weren't buying the product and we had a meeting to decide to keep going. I could have saved the company lots and lots of money just by pulling the plug on the project, but the know it all management never listen. I wonder how often this happens in tech companies.

It is indeed. The video goes well with the song. Not sure what town in the UK was shown (Northern England somewhere) but the US shots were Western PA. Down around Aliquippa. Maybe Ambridge too.

16 I think you're getting out over your oars there, CoreWeave.

CoreWeave basically builds data centers for AI companies to rent/lease space at to run their models.

Since Wall St. is now getting nervous about the debt load with AI build-out and whether the debt is ever going to be paid they are pulling out of the starting side of the AI bubble.

So memory & chip manufacturers and dats center corps are getting hit hard.

The bubble is coming to an end, I believe.
Let’s just hope it’s a soft landing.

The encounter in the gym is staged. If he was serious about the real world instance that he is parodying, he would do straight commentary. Then again, I dislike reaction videos generally.

18 >>I wonder how often this happens in tech companies.

A lot. Was on a software project that overran time & budget badly; wound up as the third project manager with the promise that it wouldn't be a suicide mission (a promise they kept); recommended in a meeting with the company president that the project be killed because the department we were doing it for was never going to accept our work. They killed it and the pair who were the problem suffered no consequences.

His streams are basically funny news reviews, occasional reaction videos, and video game playing, with an occasional brilliant analysis and getting right to the heart of the matter with some Texas down-home wisdom.

I haven’t been watching as much of his videos lately because he can talk for hours but he’s usually more entertaining than a TV show.

22 Asmongold, for a few months, went on a reaction to bodycam videos spree of, usually, women getting arrested and freaking out, that were hilarious. Not so much because of his reactions although he was funny about it but because I’d never seen the footage either and was laughing along with him the entire time.

Posted by: SpeakingOf at October 17, 2026 05:06 AM (6ydKt)

23 Yes, CoreWeave is one of the biggest reasons why a $750, mid-range GPU now costs around $1000, and why a $2000 GPU now runs around $5000.

The earlier version features the group performing the song in various locations in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire.

The second version, released in November 1985, features the group performing at a concert while clips play featuring footage of Newcastle upon Tyne, Manchester, and Aliquippa, Pennsylvania.

25 Evening and morning, Saturday toilers and insomaniacals! It's a breezy 62 F. here this morning. That and relatively low humidity will make a workout quite pleasant, but there is a stiff 24 mph north wind to deal with. I'd rather have that than a pre-dawn heat index of 93 (which I have seen several times this year, and many many times in the past).

The original silent Nosferatu which predates the Lugosi Dracula by a few years, is on Movies! It seems very effective. The vampire is very alien and creepy.

How's your Saturday looking?

31 I have nothing to add being a technological dinosaur, so I’m killing time staring at the clock radio until it flips to 5:15 CDT. At which time I get dressed and leave at 6:00 CDT for the abbreviated MoMe experience commencing at 9:00 CDT. I chickened out leaving yesterday because I was getting whelmed by the thought of being galaxies outside of my comfort zone. Next year, at least, I won’t be the new kid on the block.

It is. But until now, I had no idea who sang it or what the title was. The local '80s oldies station plays it from time to time, and I say, "Who was that?" Now I'll know.

DJs in the ancient times used to front-sell or back-sell the tunes they played. That way you knew what that song you liked was called and who the artist was. You could go to the record store and ask for it. Sometime in the late '70s the practice stopped; I guess to leave more time every hour for commercial spots, because singles got longer, or both.
