But apparently the UK is to be condemned for giving up its domination of third-world peoples just to make war on Hitler, whereas Hitler is excused for losing its own domination of third-world peoples just to make war on Czechoslovakia, and Poland, and Russia, and Belgium, and Norway, and Denmark, and of course, ultimately the UK. It's the same shifting standards again that communists apply to the Soviet Union, only Tucker Carlson is increasingly showing his Nazi ass by performing the same service to Hitler. Here's more of those shifting standards: The UK should be condemned for fighting Hitler but Hitler, Tucker Carlson states, had a solid "justification" for invading Poland and must not be condemned for doing so. Tucker also continues insisting that it was wrong to end WWII in the Pacific immediately with the dropping of two atomic bombs, claiming that it's always wrong to take innocent lives. Is it? As Max Nordau points out, Tucker consistently justifies and defends Hitler and Putin taking innocent lives, saying that their starting of wars was just acceptable Great Powers jockeying. But America and of course Israel are not allowed the same "Great Powers jockeying for advantage" leeway; no, for America and Israel, the standard is you must never harm an innocent life, ever, and if you do, you must be condemned forever. Note of course that this is the same kind of standards-shifting communists do when they attack America for, say, spiriting Nazi scientists to America to assist in our rocket program, while justifying Russia's doing of the exact same thing. After all, Russia was just engaging in some Great Power jockeying for advantage.
Max KlingerBy the way: The Groyper/Hitler-adoring pseudoright keeps arguing that we must embrace a little bit of Naziism to attract younger voters, whom they assert are super Hitler lovers. It's not true. Obviously. Phil MagnessAccurate: fe Heydel-MankooExamples at the end of the original post. 13 Britain should have let the Germans annihilate Russia.
Posted by: Boss Moss at October 05, 2026 12:18 PM (1ikK2) The problem here is that Europe becomes a MUCH harder nut to crack. I am trying to remember numbers on the fly, but there was a vast commitment of forces to Barbarossa. Something like 300(?) divisions. Let's say you actually can take Moscow and cap Stalin in winter '41, spring '42, then all of those divisions (planes, tanks, men) become available to bring back west. Plus add in that the fuel issue the germans always dealt with is gone from the caucaus oil fields. So they can increasingly mechanize... Yeah, not a great scenario, even if it would have gotten Stalin down. BUT, it would have also raised the likelyhood of a European usage of nukes. It's a fun scenario to game out though. Defeat all communism/socialism/fascism at one time, when you have the will and men and material to do it. Posted by: Aetius451AD at October 05, 2026 12:24 PM (Y/06r) 42

>>>21 Hitler was just stalling when he said he didn't want war with GB. He knew war was inevitable when he broke the Munich Agreement.
yes, he was lying about everything. He had a sequence of conquest in mind, but knew he could never win without quickly knocking out some countries and keeping other countries out of the war by signing non-aggression pacts he never intended to honor. The obvious example is his non-aggression pact with the Soviet Union -- conquering the Soviet Union for "lebensraumen" was always central to his plan for conquest, but he knew he could not fight Russia and France at the same time. So he signed the pact with Russia, then defeated France, and then almost immediately invaded Russia. I'm not weeping for Stalin here, I'm saying Hitler's promises mean as much as whatever Tucker Carlson claims to believe this month. Posted by: ace at October 05, 2026 12:25 PM (1wjle) 48

>>>That's a morally deranged argument. I disagree with the last sentence. First and foremost, as you later point out, Britain was unlikely to have been able to keep her other possessions in a deal with Hitler. Hitler would have reneged later at a time more to Germany's advantage. So, morality aside, GB had other reasons to take on Hitler. But it is hardly immoral for a nation to determine its own interests in waging war and determining that they don't want to be the world's savior if it runs against their own self-interests. The common British people were tired, they blamed the Conservatives prior to Churchill who was a maverick Tory for the war (see Guilty Men by Michael Foote, a Labor historian/politician), and severe war time rationing and the import/export exchange controls more or less conditioned the British people to having government control everything economic as they did in the war.
I imagine it didn't help their delusions of superpowerdom to know that the US had very clearly usurped their traditional role, and that they simply weren't big enough to reverse that process. Might as well just hand off the world-leadership torch, then. Sure, some tried to deny it for awhile, but everyone, including Stalin, knew it. The Big Three were really the Big Two and a Half. Posted by: Boss Moss ========= There is a difference between a 'country' and a 'nation'. Countries are lines on a map, nations are built on blood, shared history, and culture including religion. Stellar example is Israel which has persisted for millennia without a country and yet when restored to its homeland, became a nation-state which is where the nation and geographic borders coincide. btw, if anyone reads "The Iron Dream" on kindle, be on notice that the Kindle automatically starts the book on the first page of the book-within-the-book. It skips you over very necessary backstory for the "book," which is presented as an "Editor's Note" or something and is the real start of the book.

This. The Japanese were almost caricaturishly evil. Actually they went a few steps past that. Warrior/Honor/Caste culture, combined with a lot of racial supremacy so you can 'Not People' pretty much anyone who is not a Japanese Male.
It was no day at the beach to be a Japanese male, either. Here's a sword, go run at the machine guns. If you fail, just stab yourself in the belly and pull out your guts. And if even that doesn't work, well, you're on your own. Enjoy starvation and malaria! Posted by: Archimedes at October 05, 2026 12:43 PM (Riz8t) 189

I understand why we subsequently allied with the USSR but don't understand why we gave away the store after the war was over. Patton was right again.
Posted by: polynikes at October 05, 2026 12:30 PM (KC5Lt) ===== By the time the Yalta conference convened, the US and the UK were desperately trying to pin Stalin down for a declaration of war against Japan. The Manhattan Project still hadn't demonstrated a working fission bomb, and there were no guarantees it ever would work. Besides, shifting hundreds of thousands of Soviet troops to the Far East would mean hundreds of thousands of Soviet troops not within striking distance of Soviet-free capitals in Europe. By the time of the Potsdam Conference, Soviet military forces fully occupied the countries of Eastern Europe. It would have taken another global war to kick them out. One reason the UK was so broke after Dunkirk is that the US had passed the "Johnson" Act in 1934. UK owed a lot of money after WW1 (as did others), and the US had forbidden itself from lending any more.
Roosevelt (and, later, Willkie) wanted to do more for Britain but the American people lagged them. Over 1940, FDR (with, again, some Republican backing) started Lend-Lease but of course most of that just ended up with Stalin in 1941. Britain kept the colonies because otherwise Britain would frankly have starved. Posted by: 88C+u at October 05, 2026 12:43 PM (sDWtc) 193

The older Filipino generations who lived through the Japanese occupations and atrocities are long gone.
