Son of Former Brazilian President Cheated Out of a Win Tops Election Results in Brazil, Garnering 47% of the Vote

It requires 50% to actually win the election outright, otherwise it goes to a two-person runoff.

He almost got 50%.

I bet he got well over 50% -- but the left cheats, subverts, and destroys everything, including democracy.

Conservative Sen. Flavio Bolsonaro won Sunday night's presidential election in Brazil, defeating incumbent socialist President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva -- but did not pass the 50 percent threshold necessary to win the presidency outright, triggering a runoff election.

Brazilians took to the polls on Sunday for general elections for the presidency, local state leadership positions, and seats in the Brazilian Congress. Bolsonaro and Lula were among 13 candidates competing for the chief executive position, though polling prior to the election did not indicate that any of the other candidates were attracting any meaningful levels of support to vie for first place.

At press time, Brazil's electoral officials have counted 99.57 percent of the vote. Bolsonaro is in the lead with 47.12 percent support, or nearly 56 million votes, while President Lula obtained 45.05 percent of the vote, or about 53.5 million votes. The third-place candidate, self-help author Augusto Cury, obtained only 2.89 percent of the vote, or about 3.4 million votes.

...

Brazilians will return to the polls for the runoff election on October 25.

Lula, 80, is running for a fourth term as president of Brazil, an especially notable feat given that he was convicted of misappropriating government funds while president following his second term and banned from running for office. He attempted to run for president from prison in 2018 but failed to make it to the ballot. The Brazilian top court, the Supreme Federal Tribunal (STF), overturned the ban on public office and allowed him to run in 2022 against then-incumbent Jair Bolsonaro, narrowly defeating him.

...

The two frontrunners arrived at the top of the polls following an arduous and typically chaotic presidential campaign season in Brazil that arguably began in late 2025, when Brazil's top court sentenced Lula's expected rival, former President Bolsonaro, to 27 years in prison on dubious "crimes against democracy" charges and banned him from running for public office for 35 years, or until he is 105 years old. The Bolsonaro family, with several members already in politics, mobilized rapidly to shift away from the original plan of patriarch Jair running against Lula. Sen. Flavio Bolsonaro announced in late December 2025 that he would challenge Lula, cementing support from potential rivals such as Sao Paulo Gov. Tarcísio de Freitas. Tarcísio was reelected on Sunday.

Meawhile, US special forces joined with Ecuadorian forces to raid homes controlled by the very violent Jalisco cartel, which surged into Ecuador from Mexico.

Battleswarm blog quotes Military.com:

Fifty U.S. troops assisted Ecuadorian officials in arresting more than 30 members of a Mexican drug cartel.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and U.S. troops participated in an early-morning operation on Thursday to arrest members of a branch of Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), Ecuadoran Interior Minister John Reimberg wrote on X.

Battleswarm Blog adds:

CJNG is widely reported to be among the most lethal and brutal of all the Mexican drug cartels.

Below, Cappy Army discusses the move against the Mexican cartel in Ecuador. Cartel gunmen recently fired on US ships.

Hmmm. I'd be much happier if they'd replaced the word "arresting" with "eliminating."

Arresting them won't do much, if anything. They just get to hang out with their homies in prison for a few years.

Eliminating them permanently would solve the problem and send a message.

The Vice President of their Federal Court is the pain in the ass.

Alexandre de Moraes.

But...

Brave AI:
Moraes has recently been at the center of a major institutional crisis. In September 2026, the STF (Brazilian Supreme Federal Court) postponed a decision on whether to open a graft investigation into Moraes, stemming from allegations of a close relationship with former banker Daniel Vorcaro linked to the collapsed Banco Master. This dispute, driven by fellow justice André Mendonça, has intensified political tensions ahead of Brazil's October presidential elections.

If Bolsanaro wins, which I think he will, Moraes has no protection and will be out on a limb.

It is always amusing to note the left has a million election "reforms" they area always pushing for. And every single one of them does one of the following:

1) Allow more time for ballots to be submitted as a running total is being kept

79 It requires 50% to actually win the election outright, otherwise it goes to a two-person runoff.

This sort of ranked choice bull$hit voting needs to stop. Whoever "wins" should be declared the winner, no more of this bogus runoff garbage.
Posted by: Mister Scott (Formerly GWS) at October 05, 2026 04:42 PM (I43vL)

To be fair to the run off (spit!) this isn't ranked choice voting. However this does give time for corruption to work against a reform candidate in the second election. You can see that in France recently.

Ranked choice is far far worse and a hellish system to encourage vote fraud and corrupt splinter parties that can't govern like adults.

91 I think it’s a good idea. It removes Democrat spoilers who run as “independents” or libertarians or whatever. Jon Tester won 3 elections in Montana all with under 50% and each time the “independent” got more than the spread he won by.

In a pure first past the post Tester would have won by having the largest vote total be that 90 percent or 10 percent. The runoff just encourages the minor parties or factions to make deals in the runoff.

152 We seemed a shoo-in, Clinton was like the most unpopular president of all time.

It’s The economy, stupid. It worked for Clinton in 1992 as the challenger and 1996 as the incumbent. Things were firing on all cylinders in 96. Dole had no chance. Nobody did.

Probably not if Perot's people had gotten behind Bush in the second round.

Which wasn't entirely guaranteed but I bet more would break to Bush than Clinton.

Posted by: SpeakingOf at October 05, 2026 04:56 PM

bush would have won if perot had never entered the race or stayed out when he quit the first time. And that B$ he pulled in the summer when he "dropped out" because of low polling numbers and scandals and then reentered the race the month before the election cost bush the win.

Over 50% of the "races" are Democrats running unopposed or impartial (*cough* democrats) NM Supreme Court justices who on the ballot to be retained. It should be noted that the only option is to retain them. My submitted ballot, is once again, mostly blank. Peak Democrat Democracy.

Honestly I think he would have.

Bush 41 had the read my lips fiasco tied to him and Slick was running on cutting taxes and government spending (and people believed it!)

The thing I remember most regarding Bush 41 was the he seemed *tired*. He brought no *energy* into the room or the microphone or the camera when he spoke. He made it way too easy for Clinton in that regard.

All the liberal candidates held back because Bush was too strong and they put up sacrificial lambs up. Clinton came in and pretty much ended the NE/NY Liberal wing of the party as a separate force that could win a national election. They even had to bring the Lightbringer to the Midwest to fool the nation again.

164 143 If Perot had not dropped out after getting paranoid about the GOP coming after his family on 60 Minutes, he probably would have won the presidency and NAFTA would not have happened in the 90s.

I fully believe that.
They'd have screwed him over just like they did to Trump but he could have at least stopped the first big 'free trade' agreement.

He was stabbed in the stomach (just below the bulletproof vest he had on) by a random socialist bum in the crowd while he was being carried by a supporter during a campaign rally in 2018. The socialist was declared mentally incompetent due to mental delusions, basically, and is being held indefinitely at a psych hospital.

Bolsanaro has had numerous surgeries and problems requiring more surgeries ever since. His health is the only thing that kept him out of prison. Even Lula and Moraes couldn't go that far, though they wanted to.

Incidentally, one of the best-sounding guitar amplifiers that I've heard demos of is the Mesa/Boogie Fillmore 50, so-named because it's suited for the kinds of music played at famed music venue The Fillmore, which ran under that name from 1954-1968.

It's a franchise now, but the original Fillmore Auditorium was in the Fillmore District of San Francisco, on Geary Blvd at Fillmore St; and the district was named after the street, which was named after Millard Fillmore. So, there's the connection.

This means that if your kitten does something cool, you can call him Fillmore instead, since it has nostalgic awesome rock music connotations now. But he may not like the amp with the shared namesake, since it can apparently get quite loud.
