78 This is a delightful use of Impressionist style: vivid colors fluidly applied. The way small dabs of various colors that coalesce into a whole image is intriguing. Beyond the style, the scene is pleasant but not static. The water moves in the breeze, the children are playing, the boats moving in the distance, and the dog is romping. It gives the sense of sound as well as sight. The lady in the foreground, fully dressed but relaxed, adds a touch of sophistication as do the umbrellas with a vague Oriental motif.

From a modern point of view, the uncrowded beach, the modest clothing (not essential public nudity) and lack of buildings crowding the shore makes the scene almost idyllic. If I lived by the ocean I would hang this.

132 Skynet is closer to being sentient.

Most artificial limbs rely on silicone or plastic to mimic human hands. A research team at the University of Tokyo tried something entirely different by growing actual human skin cells directly over a mechanical joint. Biohybrid engineer Shoji Takeuchi and his team bathed a robotic finger in a collagen solution of dermal fibroblasts before layering human keratinocytes on top to form an outer epidermis. The resulting tissue flexes seamlessly around moving joints, forming natural knuckle creases instead of tearing.

When researchers sliced the outer layer and placed a collagen patch over the cut, the living cells merged the material back together and repaired the wound within seven days. While the tissue currently needs to stay wet to survive, the technology moves us closer to prosthetic limbs that can actually feel and repair themselves.

134 The French woman in that video is so fetching.

If all women in the West were half that pretty and intelligent they'd be worth fighting for.

You know they are going to use that to make an artificial penis first. Porn seems to take advantage of tech before anyone else.

Went to Ocean City, MD one New Year's. Talk about bitter cold... the wind coming off the ocean was whipping up foam and spray that covered the beach.

Still... it was pretty neat to see.
