Rasmussen Poll Shows Republicans Have an Edge Among Hispanic Voters Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks, Where's My Cookie? at October 07, 2026 10:14 AM (ndZc7) ======= The only place where the Hispanic vote matters this year is in Texas. And it matters less than the fact that the exurban vote in the state is wildly inelastic and will vote 80-20 Republican or so. NC, almost definitely and GA probably.
Posted by: Washington Nearsider Depends on turnout now. Vote by mail figures do not show a blue wave in Georgia for example and early voting is just starting (in Georgia the early voting is now truncated compared to previous elections so it will not really be a direct 1:1 comparison with past years). NC is a hard state to read and TJM probably knows more about what is going on than I do. Haven't seen much actual voting stats if any from there and ALL polls now are considered suspect and prediction markets are trash. We also face the issue of how independents are going to break--most are actually leaners, not true independents and these are the most difficult to reach in polling and also turnout. Doesn't appear that we are getting huge voting numbers that way in the competitive states (ignoring those that primarily vote by mail in the West). Posted by: Washington Nearsider: Gotterdammerung at October 07, 2026 10:17 AM (gLYp7) ======== The idea that the state that went Trump+3 was suddenly an easy win for Democrats at the federal, statewide level because Roy Cooper, who left his governorship a couple of years ago in a terrible position because of Helene and his criminal policies, was always ludicrous. Last time Cooper won statewide election, there were 400,000 more registered Dems than Reps (he won by 250,000 votes). There are now 10,000 more Reps than Dems. And, the propensity to send senators of the "wrong party" by PVI is far less than the propensity for electing senators of the "wrong party" by PVI. Think Hogan in MD or Romney in MA. He's got name recognition, which is not nothing. But it's far from everything. Posted by: TheJamesMadison, discovering British horror with Hammer Films at October 07, 2026 10:20 AM (RWrid) 200
