21 Fun fact I learned as a docent at a historical house that had once been owned by a cobbler and served as his shop:

In the old days, there were no left or right shoes. You bought two straight shoes that would conform to your feet over time. Sounds painful, but that's the way they did it.

87 What a thoroughly delightful and effective painting! The colors are soft, earthy, and comfortable. Rockwell's use of illumination from the oil lamp is brilliant. Every prop and feature is designed to emphasize a gentle, grandfatherly feel: his literal carpet slippers, cushion on the bench, his age. The contrast between the work boot he is repairing compared to the tiny doll's shoe is both poignant and humorous.

What makes the painting is the little girl's expression and posture. This is a serious matter. A doll is a real person and should be properly attired, so she brought the matter to a professional like any mother would with her child's shoe. The entire painting is sweet, nostalgic, and relaxing to view. Completely enjoyable.

I recall as a kid some older ladies who decorated their homes with framed covers of Rockwell's magazine covers. It was all they could afford. They would have loved this one.

102 El Sayed has a problem...

In a 2012 HuffPost essay written shortly after Obama won reelection, El-Sayed — who said he had voted for him — accused the president of failing to deliver the “hope and change” that defined his 2008 campaign. “This leader has perpetuated war, violated our civil liberties, deported more people from our shores than any other president before him, and the list of his failures goes on,” he wrote.

“That memory will serve not as a reminder of the history we made that night – but of the silly emotions of a naïve young man who didn’t understand that hope and change required more than flowery prose and a winning smile,” El-Sayed wrote of Obama’s first election. “I have little hope because there has been less change.”

Norman Rockwell

Best Normal Rockwell Art: "Cobbler Studying Doll's Shoe, this Norman Rockwell painting, appeared on the cover of The Literary Digest published April 30, 1921.

This illustration was Rockwell's twenty-fifth picture featured on the cover of The Literary Digest.

Rockwell artwork was featured on the cover of The Digest twelve times just in 1921. A Rockwell cover was published once a month just on this one magazine alone."

233 In the old days, there were no left or right shoes. You bought two straight shoes that would conform to your feet over time. Sounds painful, but that's the way they did it

-----------

The Wong Brothers emigrated to America and decided to ply their trade making shoes in a small town that had never had its own cobbler. On their opening day the brothers had on display an array of high quality shoes in various styles, but only left shoes. The orders poured in from the local townspeople and the Wongs were busier than they had ever dreamed was possible.

When the first pairs were delivered, one customer noticed first that the shoes were of excellent quality and style, but second, that both shoes were lefts. Assuming this was a mistake, the customer headed off to the cobbler's shop to get the omitted right shoe. To his surprise, he found the shop jammed with other customers, each of whom had the same complaint. Each had received two left shoes.

When Mr. Wong finally appeared before the mood of the crowd was darkening. One of the customers held up his two shoes and asked angrily, "what's the big idea giving everybody two left shoes with their order?"

244 Speaking of movies...

Saw "A Cure for Wellness' last night.

A very artsy, very loooooong horror movie by Gore Verbinski.

Very pretty cinematography. Nice creepy atmosphere. Story-wise it's like a mash-up between Kafka, bergman, and those old Universal or Hammer horror films.

It also has the same problem of those old horror movies in that halfway into the flick you've already figured out the entire plot (more or less) and are ready for the scares. Even so, Pally, you've got another another hour and fifteen minutes to go.

So, it could easily lose 30-60 minutes with no damage.

The acting ain't great. Not horrible, but they're all charisma vacuums.

it's a swing and a miss. Watch if it sounds interesting to you.

A better Kafka and "horror" mash-up is "Kafka" (1991) by Steven Soderbergh. Hard to find but well-worth watching, it's another one like "Revenant" (2007), that I drag out to each each Halloween season.

Even Woody Allen's "Shadows and Fog" (also 1991!!!) is a better if not very good Kafka and horror mash-up.

TL/DR Forget AACFW and watch Soderbergh's "Kafka" (1991).

Close. Plymouth, MA

Wikipedia, in part, "Located in Greater Boston, the town holds a place of great prominence in American history, folklore, and culture, and is known as "America's Hometown". Plymouth was the site of the colony founded in 1620 by the Mayflower Pilgrims, where New England was first established. It is the oldest municipality in New England and one of the oldest in the United States.[5] The town has served as the location of several prominent events, one of the more notable being the First Thanksgiving feast. Plymouth served as the capital of Plymouth Colony from its founding in 1620 until the colony's merger with the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1691."

Water gets too cold as hurricanes get up to Kalifornia...so they lose a lot of their power. Also, they tend to curl out to sea or into Baja California first. I think in the last 150 years, maybe ONE hurricane has hit San Diego...and a handful of tropical storms.

Yup, Cali is positioned quite well for avoiding hurricanes as most that get that far north head into Mexico.
The rest are forming so far up in the Pacific they head northwest to Hawaii and Asia.

Podcasters say crap to drive audience numbers. Has little to no relation to reality nowadays.

From a decent dip into prosecution evidence against Troon furry lover from pretrial, there is not reasonable doubt to me that he did it because there is a witness, video evidence, forensic evidence (DNA, etc.), provenance of the weapon, text admissions, etc.

Too many people focus on ONE particular witness or bit of evidence when a trial is a summation of all the evidence provided. Thus they try to create an illusion of reasonable doubt on ONE piece of evidence arguing the logical fallacy--if one piece is false, then the whole case is false. Bullshit. It is the concatenated joint probabilities of all the evidence going on.

I think this case is mainly where the defense lawyers are trying and will try to keep him from getting the death penalty rather than conviction.

I don't know why they'd want to be so associated with a killer storm.

My first name was attached to a hurricane that was so bad they retired the name permanently.
