See anything missing?

Yup...the key!

And yet I will not discard this useless chunk of pot metal, because hope springs eternal!

I will find that damned key, no matter where it is!

Invest in a set of lockpicks.

Garage door wasn't working, so got 2 new springs, 2 piulleys. Replaced on one side spring, 2 pulleys and used old cable, other side, due to my Lowes not having 2 more pulleys used tje 2 best I had, greased them and used those, new cable and new springs.
Took about little over a hour and half to put them all together.

18 This reminds me of one of my earliest memories of Learning How The World Works.

We lost the key to the padlock on the shed.

First-grade-or-so-mikeski had no idea how we'd fix it. He'd seen the commercials where they shoot the padlock with a gun and it still doesn't open!

Dad grabbed a hacksaw out of the garage, and cut through the galvanized-whatever-metal hasp on the shed door, and removed the still-locked padlock.

First-grade-or-so-mikeski wondered what the point of the lock was, if it could be bypassed so quickly.

"Locks keep honest people honest."

AS mikeski said, padlocks just keep the honest people out. The advent of cheap cordless angle grinders means even hardened steel shackles can be cut in seconds, with very little noise. If you must use a padlock on a gate, have a welder fab up a steel enclosure for the lack, so it cannot be accessed by an angle grinder or prying tools. Of course, the steel enclosure can itself be cut open by use of an angle grinder, but much more time is needed.

99 It's always the last place you look...that is if you find it.
Why? Because it'd be stupid to keep looking for the key after you found it...
Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at October 04, 2026 02:04

As the key was last Thurs. After 2 hrs of us both searching and pondering I gave up. I reached in Dad's recliner one last time before sitting down and found the keys!

We were at Dad's to help get things ready for an online auction. They had a huge old house where the experienced auction hands were amazed at how every nook and cranny was filled. Mom had an antique business for 40+ yrs. Unfortunately another FWP besides lost keys is that what she liked is out of favor now. It will be interesting to see what the cut glass and flow blue china will bring.

Today's my second birthday without Dad. It's not a FWP I think, more universal really...I miss being able to talk to Dad.

Today

100 AOP can not only improve your fence security, rebuild your car engine, hookup Starklink. and restore old Studebakers, but he can also make you a Sunday dinner that momma would be proud of.

Why Canada wastes so much talent is beyond me.

101 Been looking all over the damn place for a flashlight. I have a dozen. But this one was for my wife's car. It's special. It's a little gold colored LED one. I took it out months ago when the Explorer was in for service, never put it back. Thought about it today when I put our new insurance proofs in the vehicles. And noticed the little flashlight was missing.

I be a bit more than absent minded.

FWP,

Our new dishwasher we bought this time last year is still sitting in the garage. Appliance store won't install because of insurance reasons. We found a company who we scheduled an appointment with and they never showed up.

Why the hell does an appliance store not install what they sell?

Anyways people have worse problems..

112 18 This reminds me of one of my earliest memories of Learning How The World Works.

116 I have several battery powered lights mostly for emergencies.
To solve the problem of battery run down little slips of plastic block electron leak. One, MagLite Solitare, unsheathed, is on the ready to assist in freeing electrons to the other lights.

The Harbor Freight, luminar Outdoor, that requires 3 AA batteries is a value item.

They'll install them here.
They'll charge extra but they'll do it.

The only insurance problem I can think of is that they'd have to hire another person to do installs and they don't want to pay for insurance and everything else for them.

124 My FWP today was a dead battery in the HEB parking lot after grocery shopping. Don't know why it went dead suddenly and suspected it was something else going on. Only a year and 10 months old. Got GM roadside service to get someone to come to jump me but was going to take estimated 90 minutes. I had called friend first to take my groceries home and he came in about 15 minutes where I was able to jump without an issue. Canceled the roadside service.

Now I'm home and just going to relax and see tomorrow if battery has 13-14 volts or lost its charge again before arranging for the dealer to get me a new battery under the warranty.

All in all turned out well as no groceries were lost .

Yesterday the notification said the package is now in Hawaii.

127 I fell down a rabbit hole watching this guy who can pick locks like it's second nature. Most people are familiar with "the lockpicking lawyer", but the guy I'm referring to puts him to shame. His name is Trevor McNally, and the ease in which he opens presumably "unpickable" locks is comical.

His videos are usually taking a lock right out of the sealed packaging (that almost always advertises it to be unpickable) and then McNally pulls off the tab from a soda can or something and proceeds to open the lock in seconds.

He's the one a lock manufacturer accused of misrepresenting himself when tearing apart their lock, to which he answered the suit by doing it in front of them. It was hilarious.

The take away is that those padlocks are just decoration to the wrong people.
