Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Secretary of War Hegseth Plans to Fire 20% of All Generals and Admirals; Appoints a Panel to Game Out the Future of Warfare, Including Elon MuskI know that when the government wants to fire people, the best way to do it is to announce a staff slim-down. Judges can't force the government to retain more personnel than the government thinks they need, but they can protect left-wing saboteurs who are fired for cause. So best practice is to just say you're cutting personnel, then get rid of the saboteurs. I don't know if Hegseth has to do that in the military, though. I think he might have more plenary power to fire people than secretaries overseeing civilian departments do. So maybe this is just a reduction in force.Either way, he'll be firing nonperforming generals and admirals. That sounds like he's using this as cover to fire the nonperformers. But I don't know. The announcement comes exactly one year after Hegseth summoned hundreds of generals and admirals from around the world to Quantico, Virginia, for an extraordinary gathering where he laid out his expectations for the military's senior leaders and warned those who did not support his reforms to step aside.CBS: Hegseth said he'll be firing officers who "clung to woke." Hegseth said he's aimed for the department to be "unrelenting, unapologetic, and uncompromising" in its mission to win. Generals who "clung to the woke department or seem to think civilian control of the military is simply a suggestion, well, they no longer work here," Hegseth said. He also announced the military would be a force of cleanshaven normies: "No beardos, no weirdoes." "The media calls that a purge," he said. "I call it accountability, and long overdue." Hegseth also used the speech to spell out the kind of force he wants. He used a string of derogatory terms for people he said should not serve in the military: "No fatties, no t******s, no beardos, no weirdos, no wimps, no radicals. Just warriors."I assume the censored word is the absurdly forbidden word "trannies." Just because. Trans agitators decided they needed their own n-word to ban and decided that the very typical method of shortening a word by just ending a "y" or "ies" ending was "offensive" and a "slur." By the way, this word so offended communist propaganda outlet NPR they deleted it entirely without even noting the censorship: "No fatties, no trannies, no beardos, no weirdos, no wimps, no radicals. Just warriors," Hegseth said on Wednesday. "The ideological clowns are out. The patriotic cowboys are in, with testosterone testing on top."Oorah. As you can imagine, NPR is so triggered you guys! He also will clarify that religion is not disfavored in the military, as it was under Obama and Biden. Quite the opposite. In his last proclamation, Hegseth declared he will establish the Office of Religious Affairs at the Pentagon that "will report straight to the top." "Cutting-edge technology ... new basing and bases ... and a better educational pipeline are still incomplete without the most essential component of our republic: faith," he told the assembled service members. He said the Defense Department has "a sacred duty" to provide troops with "first-class religious support" wherever they're sent, bashing past administrations for treating the topic as an afterthought. "Political correctness and secular humanism got a vote. Chaplains did not. Budgets were cut. Resourcing and manpower needs were ignored. Base chapels fell apart," Hegseth claimed. "Decisions about faith and religion were made by secular careerists in cubicles and lawyers running around with red tape."He's also expanding the colleges from which officers will be drawn, shifting away from woke Ivies to southern schools which probably instill more traditional (and pro-military) values. The military training program, called "America's Corps of Cadets," will include Louisiana State University, Liberty University, Tuskegee University, Mississippi State University and Hillsdale College. "We need more officers from academic institutions like our military academies and senior military colleges, and today we're going to make that happen," Hegseth said. Each school will be a "distinguished military college" and will be expected to "maintain exceptionally high standards of cadet discipline, tactical instruction and military organization," the Pentagon chief said. ... "From the Ivy Leagues to the most liberal arts colleges, our colleges and universities have become anti-American DEI [diversity, equity and inclusion] worshipping woke factories. Qualities like grit and courage replaced with political correctness and social justice," Hegseth said. "God and country traded for Che Guevara and critical theory."He announced an Autonomous Warfare Command, which would field AI-guided military drones. Hegseth also announced a new panel to game out the massive changes in future -- actually, current -- warfighting. Elon Musk, tech mogul Palmer Lucky, and Newt Gingrich were named as leaders.
I don't know what Gingrich is doing there. Well, I do. He considers himself a futurist and does think about military procurement. He's said of himself "I'm a hawk, but a cheap hawk," so maybe Hegseth thinks he will be able to separate the real cutting edge weaponry from the boondoggles. He also announced a "FORTRESS America" initiative. Sean Parnell
"If an adversary takes down the grid by cyberattack, by sabotage, or by any means, our bases stay lit. Our aircraft keep flying. Our command centers never go dark," he said. The effort also is meant to bring critical supply chains home, including rare earth minerals, specialty metals, semiconductors and propellants "mined in America, refined in America, built in America by American workers."He also announced some kind of new base, which I guess is a model for future bases: Sean ParnellIn some interesting military news: the last of the legendary SR-71 Blackbirds -- the highest-flying, fastest plane, made of titanium because it's the only metal that won't melt at very high speeds -- has apparently been re-activated after having been retired in 1999. And given to NASA, for some reason. Why? They're not saying. They're saying that NASA is back in the X-Plane game, and that they'll be "flying high and fast again." But they don't specify what NASA will do with the plane. Interviewer: You showed a picture of the Blackbird up there. Jared Isaacman: You sure that's a Blackbird? Interviewer: Well, okay. What was that picture that you showed up there? Isaacman: Like I said, NASA's getting back in the business of flying high and fast again. Interviewer: I mean, that doesn't seem like a space vehicle. It seems like an Earth-air vehicle. Isaacman: Yeah. The first "A" in NASA is our aeronautics portfolio. What we've contributed to over the decades, you may not realize this. Look, when you go see an F-22 fly at an air show and wow you, the fly-by-wire technology was us. The thrust-vectoring technology was us. NASA's been contributing to breakthroughs in aeronautics, both civil, commercial and national-security applications, for a long time. And again, kind of similar to the same theme, over the years we've been forced to spend our aeronautics budget on, like, subsidizing high-TRL efforts from big prime contractors. An engine that's 40 years old, they want to squeak 3% more fuel efficiency out of it, get NASA to pay for it. I'm like, are you kidding? There is no way we are doing that. You can underwrite that investment yourself for competitive reasons. You know what I want to do? I want to get back to the radical airframe and engine designs like we were always supposed to do, and you're getting a little bit of a taste for that on the...I don't know why that ends in a "...". Blue suit and brown shoes are cool. Tan shoes not so much, especially when (like Hegg here) there's no other tan or brown colors in the rest of the outfit to balance. Btw, I think that might be a light blue suit in the video, not grey. Tough to tell from the color and resolution of the vid. Also: Hegg's pants are too short. The hems should gently cover a bit of the shoes. The "pants crease" meme. This guy gets it. Posted by: Archimedes at October 01, 2026 01:31 PM (Riz8t) 68

On of the biggest reasons this, the getting rid of and stopping Hegseth, is such a priority to the left is, it's an article of faith that desegregation and all that in the military top-down was not just a model of how to do it but also opened up the rest of society.
That the military was their little sandbox forever and ever now for social change they could force out to the rest of society. So the whole trannies was to push that out on the rest of America. Recall just a few short years ago, our men were being forced/humiliated to march in high heels and carry the fag flag, ffs. Every single office in that chain of command ought to be discharged and stripped of their pension. Posted by: People's Hippo Voice at October 01, 2026 01:32 PM (3cUTc) 73

During the Kasserine Pass defeat he ran his headquarters from a bunker roughly 70 miles behind the lines, never visited the front, and scattered his units too far apart for mutual support. Uhm....not just pre-war....
He was a strong pre-war trainer and administrator — Marshall called him "one of the best" — but he had little field-combat experience when he took II Corps in North Africa. During the Kasserine Pass defeat he ran his headquarters from a bunker roughly 70 miles behind the lines, never visited the front, and scattered his units too far apart for mutual support. After the rout, Eisenhower relieved him on March 5–6, 1943, and he became the first of seven American corps commanders in WWII to be removed from command. Troops getting to ignore certain rules isn't always a discipline issue though. WW2 subs (American or German) were so hot and unpleasant they skipped a lot of those uniform and grooming standards for comfort/practicality, but (like the movie The Dirty Dozen) it built a kind of filthy camaraderie or esprit de corps. The real key is clear expectations and enforcing standards. If you know you're allowed to skip those appearance standards, but all your other duties are held to very high standards, you feel elite and special. If appearance standards are waived because no one cares, they probably don't care about other requirements either, so it indicates poor leadership. These are all good things.
The senior ranks have been inflated for years and this is actually kind of normal in periods of peace. This in part due to expanding budgets (can't have a colonel in charge of a mega million-dollar program), expanding programs, and cronyism. Also, Flag Officers have a bad habit of letting their rank go to their heads and most of those who get fired in the first couple of years of wearing a star, are fired because they either can't account for money; or they can't keep their pants zipped up. It takes ego to be a successful general, but not too much ego. Thos that can balance this are usually exceptional officers. Discipline in wartime training is important but the major task is warfighting, not discipline as an end to itself. In technical services, the pilot flying the plane or the captain over a ship doesn't necessarily have the same information that a lowly tech specialist does and ordering as a martinet for the unwise or impossible to be done comes from excessive emphasis on top down hierarchical discipline. And the attitude in a world of terrorism and drones, the idea that every service member is unlikely to fight results in bad things happening when it is someone else's job to confront the task before them. The end is winning the war, not process--discipline is necessary but in and of itself insufficient to produce a winning military force. Posted by: whig at October 01, 2026 02:01 PM (E4rtv) 223

I know bases up here have their own energy generation plants. Some are rather inadequate right now, and there wasn't much money available under the empty-headed asshats running the government under Obama or Biden, but that is changing rapidly. For a while, even Ft. Greeley had a small nuclear reactor, until the vessel cracked and they had to decommission it. It's not like AK has extra energy hanging around to provide to the military, and I suspect the same is going to be true for the Lower 48 once AI gets up and running.

Posted by: Orson at October 01, 2026 01:25 PM (dIske) The US military unfortunately has a long history of asshole flag officers who leak info to the press or engage in outright insubordination to civilian authority. It's not just the woke officers either, for example Gen McChrystal got canned by Chocolate Fonzie for allowing his staff to talk down Obama and Biden to anyone who would listen. As much as I agree with virtually any criticism of that mocha ass spelunker, firing McChrystal for doing the wink and nod to his staff was the proper thing to do. A flag officer has a duty to serve the elected President as Commander in Chief, and if he's contemplating insubordination because of disagreements, the proper and honorable path is to resign his commission and then speak his mind in public (without violating security norms). Try getting a good seal with your gas mask while wearing a beard. Warning: death by a nerve or blood agent is a nasty way to go. Posted by: Diogene Considering the last time normal US troops needed masks was WW1, and beards can be shaved pretty quickly if chemical weapons are a legitimate threat, it's kind of a weak excuse. We don't vaccinate troops against anthrax and smallpox automatically...only if they're deploying in a wartime situation where we think the enemy might use it. Beards aren't allowed because leadership believes clean shaven looks professional and uniform. The mask issue is just a somewhat plausible sounding operational explanation. Posted by: Washington Nearsider ======== What are they going to do when jihadis in the ranks to what they do thanks to us welcoming shitheads into our midst. What about when they go offpost or off ship in some bedeviled shithole or even home or to buy groceries. They are targets just like cops are and the cops pay far more attention to personal warfighting skills than most of the military does. You might want to take a gander at Col Rex Applegate's WWII era service where that dude, even in his 70's as a civilian, took out a robber with only a cane. Societies are usually either knife cultures (most of the world actually) or gun cultures (pretty much now down to the US). Knowing how to forestall basic knife attacks and being able to fight back is useful for all troops because our rather stupid officer corp refuses to allow troops to carry firearms in many situations. That makes them susceptible to knife attacks which are actually quite deadly. His masterpiece is Kill or Get Killed which includes a summary of his WWII training services and his later consultancy on fighting communist insurgencies. As I understand it...the usual game for a General or Admiral is to "temporarily" retire when they know that the occupant of the White House doesn't favor them. They go, and work for a defense contractor until a new party enters the White House that they line up with...and return to active duty.
Now, the thing is, it seems that security clearance on a voluntarily retired General or Admiral doesn't automatically get pulled or limited if that individual goes to work for a defense contractor. BUT, if a General or Admiral is fired, that is a whole different ballgame. They lose security clearance immediately and it is not automatic thus making them less of an asset to the defense contractor. The whole command structure has turned into a game of musical chairs. Temporary retirement...make some coin...come out of retirement and take a position, while command structure favorable to the previous President take their own early retirement. Rinse Lather Repeat. Quite the little racket, that. Posted by: Orson at October 01, 2026 02:14 PM (dIske) 273

That's obviously what they want, but a lot of economic indicators look pretty good overall. Pushing women into military roles because of their gender and not their competency can be deadly, not just for those in her charge, but for herself.

My point is that our society has let the enemy into our citadel US and that our military has viewed itself as being 'safe' far too much from the new nature of warfare. Not all branches and not all specialties but as a whole, we need to regard the enemies as within the gates.
The Omani trying to bring a plane down is a perfect example. Fortunately a lot of Israelis were on that plane and not willing to go out on the asshole Terrorist's terms. Same with the brave pilot that managed somehow to unlock the pilot door. What did the Omani use? Some sort of bladed instrument (some say a hachet, others a knife). Same with a proud Gurkha using his kukuri and his bravery to stop Islamic terrorists slaughtering people on a train. American service members did something similar in Euroland recently--stopping a Islamic bastard with a knife killing people on a train. Contra, see how poorly the UK is managing the scourge of nutjobs with knives. Letting its own troops get slaughtered at home by jihadis for example. Cops in the US take knives more seriously than our military does nowadays. Posted by: whig at October 01, 2026 02:24 PM (E4rtv) 319
