Convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein groveled for "mercy" during his sentencing in a Manhattan courtroom Wednesday -- where prosecutors revealed his alleged plot to pay a podcaster $1.75 million to "instill fear" in his victims.
The decrepit 74-year-old ex-Miramax mogul had no visible reaction as Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Curtis Farber slapped him with 15 years behind bars, calling Weinstein a "sexual predator" who took advantage of his "insatiable appetite for sexual dominance."

Weinstein hired private investigators to track her [the victim he was imprisoned fro raping] after she came forward with her allegations, causing her to live with constant paranoia and "questioning every encounter I have," she added.
Prosecutors alleged during the hearing that they had recordings of Weinstein offering a podcaster $1.75 million in a jailhouse phone call to release videos to help his defense by "contaminating the jury pool and reaching the seated jurors before and after the trials."
Weinstein engaged in a "scheme to disrupt the trial and instill fear in his victims," Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg alleged.
Blumberg did not identify the podcaster, but Candace Owens released a podcast series in 2025 called "Harvey Speaks," which featured videos of Weinstein at the notorious city lockup.
Efforts to reach Owens directly Wednesday were unsuccessful. A spokesperson for Owens, Mitchell Jackson, said Wednesday that she was never paid by Weinstein.

A Weinstein spokesman denies he paid a podcaster to tamper with a jury -- but does not deny that he paid a podcaster to get his side of the story out to the public.

Weinstein spokesperson Juda Engelmayer denied the jury tampering allegations.
"That characterization is patently untrue. Harvey never offered or paid anyone $1.75 million to influence a jury, and there was no such agreement," Engelmayer said.
"Talking with friends about media coverage or expressing frustration is a very different thing from paying someone to contaminate a jury pool or intimidate witnesses. No money was paid, no such deal was made, and portraying these conversations as a criminal-style 'scheme' is inflammatory and misleading," he said.

Every political podcast is like that. It’s like cable news was 15 years ago when people still paid attention to it.

Reality is not that much happens day to day that’s important. But the podcast machine has to keep churning out 2-3 hours of content daily. So they find the smallest insignificant thing and make it an 11. Trunp will be totally destroyed by this thing. Like he was yesterday. And last week.

What I don’t get is how people don’t get tired of being manipulated like that and keep coming back.

a new NYT article blames the old gerrymandered map for Utah on THE PATRIARCHY, and hints that Hagen, a woman justice, was unfairly fired for being a woman.

She CHOSE to step down. NYT acts like it was a false smear campaign against a woman, with no evidence. They conveniently leave out that her husband had texts between her and her BFF attorney guy friend she was allegedly sleeping with, that also happened to be an attorney on the redistricting case, oopsie. (Their "friendship" rekindled as her marriage was imploding.) The texts according to the husband hint at an affair. But he can never reveal them due to legalese in their divorce decree. So when a committee was looking into evidence of her alleged affair, to decide whether to drop her as a court justice, there was no evidence to submit. It's all behind a legal wall. So they found her not guilty, but she still left the job, probably because it was too messy.

That is NOT muh patriarchy, that is chummy relations between judge and attorney on cases she rules on, that call into question her judgment.

I finally watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and she has a blink-and-you-miss-it part as one of the Manson cult chicks. She was, um, definitely different looking without makeup and the boobs not being highlighted! Still girl next door pretty, but it was a stark transition to her recent ads.

Lena Dunham also played a Manson chick. She did not have to act much with the crazy cult persona, it was already there! Some of the girls, especially the one Brad's character flirts with in the car, were definitely dialed into the crazy/hot matrix and had the crazy eyes on lock.

She just adopted a baby via surrogate. Someone needs to tell her she can't rehome it, like she did her dog, if it pees on her carpet and she drives it insane. She always scoffed at things like trad marriage with a white dress and family, yet clearly yearned for them in a passive aggressive, resentful way. God bless that little child, may it somehow emerge ok.

Whig, there was an article in the Atlantic, of all places, that had a good take on this. They gave a reporter a $10K retainer to gamble and test out the betting markets for a story. (He is a straightlaced Mormon so he doesn't gamble. He sought out advice from his bishop before taking on the story. His bishop gave him warnings he later admitted came true.) He found it eventually affected everything he did in negative ways. His family, his stress. He attended gambling anonymous group meetings as part of the story, and realized he was def jonesing for it by the end. He said it was frightening how online sports betting can suck you in.

He actually brought up Chesterton's fence, and said that maybe when earlier generations banned gambling, it was for a good reason. How the 2018 Supreme Court ruling may have inadvertently torn down a protective fence we didn't realize society needed. And now the wolves are entering and eating up the lambs.

100%. Coverage, stats, even drafting and team play have all ben corrupted by gambling. Baseball was the first casualty but its spread through all of them. Football has been corrupt forever but its gotten even worse lately.

Literally running gambling ads during games and having ESPN do fantasy league shows is just shocking to me. But lets keep Shoeless Joe and Pete Rose out of the hall of fame forever!!
