Job progress:

It's not going to pay the bills but it will slow the bleed, soon (not quite yet) I will be a substitute teacher (gives me more flexibility for interviews, and probably slightly better pay, than an entry-level retail/fastfood 'hey I moved you to X shift, be here in 10 minutes' or 'I know you're off today but I need you to cover for Silent Bob').

Today's interview was more of a screening call as were the others this week. Praying that:

1) The others 'waiting for client response'/'deciding if we liked your interview *well enough*' get back to me soon....

2) That if any of these is 'the right job', it come through soon....

3) That any of these that are 'not the right job' fall away and, not to put too fine a point on it, say so instead of ghosting me....

4) That if all of these are 'not the right job', the right one show itself aggressively, so I don't miss it!

There are a very limited number of jobs and a LOT of applicants vying for those jobs. Plus, almost all of them have been overrun by liberals- even 30 years ago. Entry positions anyway.

Actually, I'm running for State Rep in CT. My (liberal) brother, on the other hand, is actually running for Congress in NYC.

I just got my numbers from my campaign treasurer a few minutes ago. I'm $1,180 short of my $6,700 money target, and 39 in-district contributors short of my 150 target. If I can reach both by Sunday at midnight, I'll get about $25,000 from the CT State Election Board to finance my campaign against one of the most progressive (a/k/a DSA-adjacent) members of the CT House.

I know that several Morons contributed to my efforts already. I can't thank you 'rons and 'ettes enough. Thanks to Ace and CBD as well, for putting me on the sidebar.

74 Evening, all! We just watched The Sheep Detectives w/ Hugh Jackman, and it was a delight. Funny, even witty dialog, and an actual mystery that works! A thunderbolt solution and even a classic example of pushing a clue right in the audience's face, in this case in the middle of a comic scene. That was a technique John Dickson Carr often used -- while you were laughing at some outlandish scene with Sir Henry Merrivale, Carr slipped in a crucial clue.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays the voice of the lead "detective" sheep, Lily, and Bryan Cranston is a big black loner ram who has seen more of the world than she has. If you listen carefully to Lily's dialog, you can detect JLD's voice, but Cranston is hard to spot.

I think the central meridian passing through the center of the NA and SA together is about 101W. Now, half the sphere centered on that would be 11W to 191W = 179E.

Smile 2: The movie isn't bad, but it isn't as good as the original. But more interestingly it feels like the writer changed the movie from general horror to...an allegory on insanity among celebrities and its effect on everyone else. I mean...if I get the ending right its quite an indictment of modern soft left celebrity culture.

28 Years Later Bone Temple: I saw the first two movies years ago and they didn't impress me but I saw this one had Ralph Fiennes so I gave it a try and what a weird, weird horror movie. It is pretty gruesome and unnecessarily so but it does present an unexpected tale set in a zombie world that isn't really about zombies.

I'd recommend the former but not really the later.

Ate right through the temporary wire I ran from a dash switch to the starter solenoid so I could start the car. And ate all the insulation off a hot wire that feeds the convertible top switch. I took the transmission floor shifter out to replace the bad neutral safety switch that caused me to run the temporary wire, and ran out of time to get it all back together. So I had to find an ignition key to fit the other car, whose keys I have misplaced. Found one that works well enough to drive it.

The whole "over" and "under-rated" thing, here as elsewhere, I find pointless, as there's no point of reference, and different people rate various things quite differently.

Haven't tried Cosmic, will do so. Honeycrisp and Fuji are very good, when in good condition. I'll have to look for Gravenstein for pies, which will be "in season" again soon.

There was a winery in northern Virginia that had an orchard of heirloom apples, many of them varieties imported by Thomas Jefferson and others of that period. You could go pick them on certain days. Loved that, don't recall the names, several very long and very German.

Anyway, although TWELVE FOREIGNERS were nabbed, I'm sure it was a drop in the ocean of fraud practiced in this city. This city alone.

Debby, I don't know how we focus on fraud without having to defend ourselves from charges of racism. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a clip from British Parliament, a report on those horrid r@pe gangs, and one FEMALE!!! MP pleading, "Whyyyyy must we mention their ethnicity?"

Meanwhile, I think most Democrats aren't even aware of the fraud situation, so I would like to see it publicized, but again -- we know where that goes. "They're blaming the Somalis for everything, but we've always had fraud."

JQ, it just bothers me that so far, not one leading democrat politician has payed the price for their incompetence at best or corruption at worst. I look at Minnesota and I wonder how it is possible that the Lieutenant Governor, Peggy Flanagan is running for the US Senate and nobody has any questions about fraud. She is running against Michele Tafoya who is not a rock ribbed conservative but she would be a hell of an improvement.

I remember Tammy Bruce sometime into the second Obama administration imagining Romney as president. "He would have been terrible," she said. Not as bad as Obama, but he would have set back conservatism by a generation by being so tentative and unprincipled. 282 I used to think maybe 5 - 10% of gov't spend was waste/fraud/abuse and that it would cost more to try to recover it than it was worth.

Now, the last two years have convinced me the waste/fraud/abuse level is 80% or more and nobody in gov't cares because they're all in on it.

I think it's at least 85% grift, graft, fraud, waste, and outright theft for public expenditures in single-party Democrat-run states, as well as most of Europe and the Anglosphere.

I use the cross-freeway wildlife passage as a test. Normal states can build one for ~$15M. California is building an artisanal, bespoke cougar/butterfly bridge that crossed the $100M mark still unfinished.

This helps make sense of other countries letting their militaries decay. Maybe they literally can't maintain the ability to defend themselves, because all the money is going to line the nests of the connected.

Regardless, I have concluded that we should end all Federal welfare. Block grants are still better than Fed-administered programs, but it's grossly immoral to just hand money over to known, proven mafias like that.

292 Well, I doubt that any thoughtful reforms of SSI or Medicare will ever take place. They are true Third Rails, and even if a proposal was perfect, the other party could make huge political hay by doomsaying. So, I still hold the same expectation that I've had since high school, that by the time I qualify, the benefit will not actually buy much.

--Consult a professional financial advisor
--Contribute to a private retirement account
--Pay off your house before you retire
--Consider Long Term Disability insurance (watch out for "lifetime maximum" payouts and limitations on choice of facilities, though)
