Just saw a blue heron flying with a fish in its mouth, a white heron fishing , and this plant which is apparently an invasive species, but it's lovely anyway: Porcelain Berry. I like the different shades on blue on the same plant berries:

Over the past few weeks I've been overnight in my car more than indoors. Add to that I am convinced retirement/resignation was in fact a severe error, a result of weakness borne of fatigue, depression, and the Adversary's relentless efforts (I repeat myself). I have no idea what sort of future unfolds from here. Pray for me, as I pray for you.

Mornin' Horde. Job interview with a local Publix today. Pretty sure I'll get it and that will bring some welcome structure to my retirement. Really don't need a lot of hours, so I'm hoping this doesn't greatly interfere with my favored pursuits..

“Part time” employment can be tough to find. A lot of places don’t want to hire anyone, but if they do; you might as well set up a cot in a spare room.

Herons fish our pond in Ohio. sometimes (it seems like) just for practice. It isn't unusual to catch a fish with a healed hole in it's middle.

Smash started him when she rode past his nap spot, and he jumped out in the rod in front of my bike. We were only going 40-45 uphill, and I practice emergency stops at that speed all the time, so he didn't get me. Good spot to set up a deer stand off the road in the woods. Nab him after he leaves the corn field back into the woods at o-dark-30. Posted by: BifBewalski - at September 19, 2026 08:33 AM (QVmho) 18
Good morning good people. Prayers for all Hordian intentions - those requested and those known but to God.
Prayers are requested for #1 son, he has something going on which is as yet undiagnosed. He is under care now so that's a positive step. Prayers also for his wife and daughter #2. Mom is a spoiled little princess who consistently choses the worst possible path of action regarding #2. Posted by: Tonypete at September 19, 2026 08:33 AM (IMGZD) 19

Summer refuses to give up here in the Bluegrass. I believe we have two more days in the mid-90's then a cold front is supposed to bring us some temps in the 70's. It's been dry the last week, maybe 10 days. This after unrelenting days of rain earlier in the month.

I motion we call them “cool” or “cooler” fronts. Until such time as a jacket is required, or a fire.
Dropping from 97 to 89 is an improvement maybe, but “cold” doesn’t belong in there. Posted by: Common Tater at September 19, 2026 08:46 AM (B8LvX) Posted by: Dash my lace wigs! at September 19, 2026 08:49 AM (CjHsb) 25

81% of voters are more likely to support a candidate this election with a plan to prevent automatic Social Security benefit cuts over a candidate who promises not to touch Social Security (17%).
77% of voters say lawmakers who promise not to touch Social Security are making the problem worse and agree delaying makes the problem harder to fix. Marco or JD should pick up this mantel. They would jump to the lead with (R) and (I). Posted by: r hennigantx at September 19, 2026 08:52 AM (/+uur) 27

Mornin'. Been up since 4:30 - the dog has had "digestive issues" for a few days, which means I have to get up a couple times per night and watch very carefully where I step. Fortunately, I did not get to experience the "Streets of Calcutta" this morning, so I think he's on the mend. Now I just have to continue the carpet cleaning process I started yesterday.

Prayers with a side of coffee
Prayers for healing of body, mind, and spirit. Father Almighty, heal and comfort those who suffer from the pains and problems of aging, eyes and hands, lungs, heart, blood, bowels, and all organs. Heal and comfort those young marrieds who strive for children but haven't yet managed. Strength and steadfastness to those striving for better health, and safety and steadfastness for those in new employment. Special plea for healing and salvation for those suffering from the diabolical mis-alignment of mind and spirit, estranged from family, threatening their children and confused themselves in forms of dysphoria, morals and principles, rejecting truth and reason. Free the captives, confound your enemies, bless our nation with healing, and our world. I think that about covers it for my first cup of coffee. I have resolved, and indeed have started, that, having said my Rosary in the morning, I will read four chapters of the Bible every day. At that rate, I should get through the entire thing in about a year. I've always had a terrible time with devotional works. There's no psychological connection. I may as well be reading something about electron spin resonance or advanced Sanskrit. I'm not sure this will go much better, but at least I'm trying and hope the Good Lord takes note of my perseverance. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at September 19, 2026 09:12 AM (eRlcH) 39
