Good morning boys and girls and everything in between. Before we enter the Prayer Revival there are just a few house keeping matters to go over. (Rulz for those of you in Wrightstown)

1) This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate. Saying a prayer or two can't hurt either.

Prayer Requests:
7/25 – Teresa in Fort Worth posted an update. She is still doing fine. Her chemo pump seems to be working and everything appears stable for now. She says she is incredibly blessed! She is working on a stocking for an as-yet-not-born grandchild. She would appreciate prayers for a successful IVF procedure and pregnancy for her daughter and hubby. Next week, Teresa and her husband will be going to California to visit their daughter who lives there and her family.
8/4 Update – Teresa was admitted to the hospital while on vacation in California. She has a bad infection – cellulitis - not due to the cancer. She is being treated with antibiotics and hopefully it will be cleared up in a couple of days.
8/28 Update – Teresa’s bloodwork is back, and everything looks steady. She has a CT scan on 9/4.
9/17 Update- Well, there is good news and bad news -
First, the bad news is that I have a 9mm mass in my lung, which means that the cancer has metastasized outside of the liver. The pump is keeping the cancer in my liver at bay for now.
The good news is that they can zap the nodule out of my lung and will keep an eye out to see if more nodules appear. As long as this is the only one, the radiation should do the job for now. However, now that it has moved, we know that at some point we will have to find another protocol to deal with any cancer which shows up outside of the liver. I may end up going back on Lytgobi; I don't know if there are any other options at this point.
Just wanted to keep you apprised of the current situation; I meet with a radiation oncologist next Friday and will be making an appointment for the procedure after that.
7/30 – David sent an update on his wife, Susan, who we have been praying for as she is treated for cancer. Susan is still doing well and her numbers are headed in the right direction, but they are still having issues with the side effects of the chemotherapy. It is manageable, but they have to increase the number of office visits for additional treatments. Some days are really good right now, but others are only bearable with the Lord’s grace. They are so grateful for the prayers on their behalf.
8/26 Update – Susan’s cough has gotten so bad that they did X-rays on her chest. It might be pneumonia. She is in the hospital. Her sodium and blood pressure are low and she is not eating much now. They are trying to turn this around and ask for everyone’s prayers.
9/2 Update – Susan is back in the ICU. She either has an infection or the cancer has spread to her lungs. Either way, thank you all for your thoughts and prayers for Susan and please continue them.
9/3 Update – Thank you to everyone for their thoughts and prayers for Susan. They are expecting her to pass into the hands of the Lord in the next day or so. Please pray for them.
8/8 – Ace-Endorsed Author A. H. Lloyd posted that Mrs. Lloyd will undergo a double mastectomy to remove the breast cancer. She has advanced to Stage 1. Much hinges on the biopsy to determine the specific sub-category of cancer and whether chemo is necessary. Please pray for her in this time of need.
8/22 Update – Mrs. Lloyd is healing ahead of schedule and the surgeon was amazed at her progress. She is still in pain and has limited mobility, but each day she is gaining more freedom of movement. That is the good news; the bad news was the unrealistic expectations set by the medical staff. The surgery was much more significant, and she will also need chemo, contrary to what she was told before.
8/27 – P asks for prayers for the soul of her nephew, C, who committed suicide on 8/17. He was only 32. May he find the peace in the afterlife that he could not find in this life.
8/26 – Teresa in Fort Worth asks for prayers for her BIL, Dick, who was found dead in the alley behind the house in Texas. He had been in declining health and had dementia. They aren’t sure how long he was outside before he passed away. Teresa’s SIL seems to be handling it okay so far. Teresa also asks for prayers for a former neighbor, Melissa, who is hospitalized, recovering from a second stem cell/bone marrow transplant as they attempt to cure her leukemia. She now has blood blisters in her mouth and throat. She had to be intubated before her throat closed completely. This might be her body rejecting the transplant.
8/27 – “…” asked for prayers for healing (and sleep) for Brit Lass. She is having tests, and so far they are good, but she is worried. She has an imaging test coming up and then an appointment with a surgeon.
8/30 – SPinRH_F-16 requested prayers for classmate “D.B.”, who has ALS. Please pray that he remains as comfortable as possible and for support for his family as they see him through this. Thank you in advance for your earnest prayers.
9/2 – Bulg asked for prayers for purpose in his life.
9/4 – bluebell sent an update on grammie winger. Grammie was diagnosed with epilepsy now. And she is back in the hospital. They would love prayers for comfort and peace for her.
9/10 – Annie’s Stew asks for prayers for her husband as he recovers from knee surgery.
9/10 – D asked for prayers for the memory of 9/11. May the Lord comfort people in the grief, and may it bring people closer to God.
9/12 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers for the W family for comfort and strength as they grieve. The deceased was a sweet 92 year old, despite some big tragedies in her life.
9/15 – Sal asked for prayers as wildfires are out of control in the north of the area and threatening the county seat. They are evacuating part of the town. Sal is not in any danger.

Saw a five-ish point just the other weekend. Smash started him when she rode past his nap spot, and he jumped out in the rod in front of my bike. We were only going 40-45 uphill, and I practice emergency stops at that speed all the time, so he didn't get me.

Good spot to set up a deer stand off the road in the woods. Nab him after he leaves the corn field back into the woods at o-dark-30.

Prayers are requested for #1 son, he has something going on which is as yet undiagnosed. He is under care now so that's a positive step.

Prayers also for his wife and daughter #2. Mom is a spoiled little princess who consistently choses the worst possible path of action regarding #2.

20 Summer refuses to give up here in the Bluegrass. I believe we have two more days in the mid-90's then a cold front is supposed to bring us some temps in the 70's. It's been dry the last week, maybe 10 days. This after unrelenting days of rain earlier in the month.

30 Mornin'. Been up since 4:30 - the dog has had "digestive issues" for a few days, which means I have to get up a couple times per night and watch very carefully where I step. Fortunately, I did not get to experience the "Streets of Calcutta" this morning, so I think he's on the mend. Now I just have to continue the carpet cleaning process I started yesterday.

I have resolved, and indeed have started, that, having said my Rosary in the morning, I will read four chapters of the Bible every day. At that rate, I should get through the entire thing in about a year.

I've always had a terrible time with devotional works. There's no psychological connection. I may as well be reading something about electron spin resonance or advanced Sanskrit. I'm not sure this will go much better, but at least I'm trying and hope the Good Lord takes note of my perseverance.

Corn fed is the best tasting venison.
~~Years~~ More than a half century ago, before Fish and Game Departments all over the country got the bit in their teeth and decided that they could be as petty and bureaucratic as every other government department, PA had a simple system. They counted deer, figured out how many needed to go, and establish the length of the season, usually around two week, then established a doe component, usually the last weekend. If the population was down, the doe "season" could be Sunday, noon to sunset.
I got a call Friday before that last weekend from a friend because I hadn't bothered with a licence (in college, no time). He had a farmer acquaintance who needed someone who hadn't filled their tag. I picked a doe tag that evening, drove out Saturday night (about 30 miles) and met the guy. He took me out to the edge of one corn field and explained that, right after dawn, a doe would emerge from to wood lot adjacent, check things out, and then proceed to nibble on various ears. (Cont)

He told me that he wouldn't have bothered if she just ate a couple of ears, but that she was ruining 15-20 ears every morning.
I went back and slept in my car, got up before dawn when he brought out coffee, and got on station at sky liightening.
Sure enough, as the sun just rose, she steps out of the wood lot, looks around for a minute, decides it's ok, and literally oranges over to the corn.
Clear line of sight, 75 yards, one shot.
The farmer heard the shot, drove out with his pickup. We butchered her in his barn. I left him the hide and about half the meat.
As I said, best tasting venison I ever had.

Correct. You can go to another state. Legally purchase it, and bring it home.

That doesn’t necessarily mean you don’t have to comply with some states licensing requirements once you get home. But you avoid the extra ffl fee and hassle when you purchase it.

I'm in favor of a one-week window to account for difficult work schedules or other circumstances. In my case, I'm only home on weekends, because I stay with my mom in another county during the week, to care for her.

I will take advantage of early voting rather than entrust an absentee ballot to the USPS. But a two month window is excessive.

Best wishes for your Bible study. I don't know what it means to have a psychological connection . Does that mean you have to know something about the author? You might consider "The Complete Fenelon" published by Paraclete Press . He was a 17th c French Archbishop and spiritual director and these are his letters to people he advised. It's very helpful short letters on things like "Bearing the criticisms of others" or " Patience under Contradiction" following by meditations on Feasts and Fasts . Fenelon has been a cherished "companion" since I got the book. At this point it's paperback cover has been worn away- a testament to its frequent use.

There are some 3200 AKC conformation judges. Just 14 are licensed to judge every breed: Gary Andersen, Eva Berg, Dana Cline, Jon Cole, Doug Johnson, Steve Keating, Jim Moses, Liz Muthard, Charlie Olvis, Joe Purkheiser (who's on his last legs), Pat Trotter, Cindy Vogels, John Wade and Joe Walton.

The problem is that for the past century we have sought "scientific" answers to spiritual questions. Anxiety, depression, etc. are all of the spirit, and this is why have a strong prayer life and regular religious practice are so effective.

When your life is a mess, conduct an examination of conscience. This is often painful, and it is helpful to have a spiritual director or incorporate it into regular confession. As you bring yourself more into alignment with God, things take on a degree of clarity, and as one contemplates the eternal, the immediate becomes less important.

When things were really bad after the Bidening, I prayed the Rosary almost every day, and it brought me great comfort. This was before the grandkids moved in and now things are more hectic, but still try to say at least one every week and I always feel relaxed afterward

I tried not to look too hard but Lacey went Best of Breed. Later, I said to Charlie across the divider, "Good choice on the Borzoi." He replied, "Was that yours? She's a beauty." Barbara Alderman later gave her a Group 4 good for 237.

I say morning prayers when I get up, the Rosary at 6:30, the Angelus at noon and evening prayers when I go to bed. And while I say them all with sincerity, I never ever manage to say them without mental distraction. They set a frame for my day, but I'm completely and totally unable to achieve any personal communication with the Almighty. Like, it would be impertinent. Still, must keep trying.

The message they believe in - that they want to be true - is that God is just a cuddly warm blanket that blesses everything they do. Again, there is a strong whiff of Puritan Calvinism in all of this, something Buck pointed out a few weeks ago. It's taking the Elect to its logical conclusion: even slaughtering your children cannot remove your election. You're still saved.

This is why the one person saying "No, it doesn't work like that" was attacked so viciously. They'd have burned him as a witch if they could have, and yes, Catholics were persecuted in Massachusetts. Nothing is new under the sun.

It has been described as a "mild" dose. They believe they have all of it and are also using a drug therapy targeting the specific type of cancer. This is just a precaution that significantly improves long-term outcomes.

Basically, if the tumor had been 4mm smaller, they would not be doing it, but that's the protocol.

We should be able to use appropriate language to describe the world around us. The concept of an Elect that cannot through its own actions forfeit it's election originated with Calvin, and if there is a better term, I will be happy to use it. What denominations believed 400 years ago is pretty much irrelevant today. Look at the Church of England! All the state churches of Europe have fallen to corruption and the Catholic Church is under siege from within and without.

The point is that there is no bright line between politics, logic, and faith. They are the same. For the left, politics IS their religion, and that is why they act like a cult, because they are a cult.

I just don't buy this. The vast majority are atheists, pure and simple, but don't have the courage to think their views through. How the infinitesimally small number like Dawkins have not offed themselves is beyond me. I've been a convinced atheist twice in my life, and the overwhelming feeling of hopelessness is just not survivable for any length of time. I think it's what drove Nietzsche insane. I really don't think about my age and I know I am so fortunate in so many ways but I kept replaying the conversation in my head over and over. It made me think about uncomfortable things. Why did I cut all those people off? I should have known that someone died, had a stroke, wrote a book, had a grandkid. Except, even though there were similarities, we are really different. Here I can be 100% me. That is a gift I am forever grateful for.

Not in my experience, and I live in a liberal college town. Most of the atheists I encounter are right wing (or claim to be). A huge chunk of the left is New Age or Wiccan or liberal Protestant (liberal theology =/= liberal politics). Tons of churches around here flying rainbow flags.

I mean, one could argue that Calvinism had been incorporated into pagan practices, and that "the Goddess" is now the one who chooses the Elect to these people.

Islam started as a Christian heresy and when then transformed into a governing ideology to sustain the Caliphate. The messy life of Mohammed, which was only fleshed out in detail centuries after his death, was created to legitimize the depravity of the caliphs themselves.

I've gone through multiple rounds of gaining and losing friends and the biggest cause is the loss of commonality. In college I got involved with the SCA, but then I focused on my career, got married, had kids, joined the Guard, and I didn't have time for it.

I lost 95% of my friends. That was THE THING we had in common. But I have retained other friends. A bunch of us who started working together in 1999 still have quarterly reunions and regularly keep in touch. I only spent five years at that job, but it was great, a job I looked forward to doing.

And now I'm getting more involved in the parish, and meeting people that way.

The old TVs ended up on the curbs, where they remained uncollected for weeks, because the city waste collection refuses to take them. I took five of them off the curbs on my block before they got smashed up by vandals, and stored them in my garage. So today I was finally able to get rid of them.

I haven't watched TV in over two decades, don't even own one. Join me. Kill your TVs.

210 Runner, yes, I was also,able to get contact info for someone I really do want to get in touch with so that was worthwhile. Sometimes I think that I am not a very good friend but I was able to give him a memory that I know he appreciated. We will stay in touch. He is a newly minted granddad so we can share this without politics.

214 Under Trump I, Jim Acosta was booted from the press pool and was reinstated. I don't think pulling the press credentials from the networks is going to stand either. They'll be pissing and moaning to a judge who's clearly on their side and get their press passes reinstated shortly.

215 I only use the TV as a display for gaming or watching DVDs or when I really need a big display for the computer. So I'm quite happy to stick with my 'dumb' TV until all the connectors and converters for those connectors are obsolete.

David, prayer for comfort and peace.

I know many here and in life going through so much. God is a constant refuge. Prayers for courage and strength in His will.

My only prayer request is for my husband. For wisdom of the orthopedic MD reviewing his MRI next week for the next step. We hope and pray for a non-surgical result but will deal with surgery if needed for the tear in a hip muscle. He's fine. This is one of his many incidental findings for the last few decades to freak out his wife.

Prayers for victory in the mid-terms aka possibly a miracle vs liberal insanity.

I say morning prayers when I get up, the Rosary at 6:30, the Angelus at noon and evening prayers when I go to bed. And while I say them all with sincerity, I never ever manage to say them without mental distraction. They set a frame for my day, but I'm completely and totally unable to achieve any personal communication with the Almighty. Like, it would be impertinent. Still, must keep trying.

To be called "a Calvinist" by head synod honcho (fighting against Presbyterian USA secular stuff in a huge meeting as the church debated leaving) over abortion a decade ago, to becoming a Roman Catholic last March...welp. No one can label me.

Read online & daily devotional "Magnificat" as well as the same daily devotional books for decades at night. I try to read verses of the Bible daily.

Enrichment of comfort & faith is my goal.
