My wife's instructions before her surgeries were pretty interesting. It specified that she had to shower twice - the night before and the morning of. Also that she had to have clean sheets the night before. Her spouse also had to shower the night before.

She pondered all this and decided that it must be MERSA or some such thing, and I tactfully suggested that it also may be caused by people who forget to bathe or change the bed linen and it's just a helpful reminder.

I didn't not mention the 500 Afghans dropped her by Biden and all the other recent arrivals. I'm sure surgical teams are not real big on b.o.

NASA announced they'd stumbled on a new crater on the Moon:

This new one is about 700' wide, and was produced by an impact that happened sometime in April-May 2024. The rock was about 10 - 20m wide. This in the Chelyabinsk class roughly.

Rocks of this size are below the NEO detection limits, so no idea of what it was or it's trajectory. That month window of when it hit makes using the impact angle useless for that, probably.

That crater is so new they can see a lot of immediate effects they can't with older craters. And guess what? It did stuff the crater models didn't predict, so they get some data to go back the drawing board for the modelling.

It threw ejecta at a steeper angle than predicted and "plowed up" the surrounding regolith more than predicted as well.

Pretty sure they used Vick's Vaporub or something similar that had menthol and/or camphor in it so they didn't have to whiff decomp smell. And yes they still make Noxzema. Good skin cleanser and also good for sunburn.

And another interesting one. They found evidence of wildfires in Antarctica to 90 million year ago. Back then, the Erf was well into a hothouse state, no polar ice caps at all. Antarctica was a lush jungle back then, well into the Antarctic circle.

Anyway, a sediment core from back then revealed wildfires raged. Antarctica was still connected to Australia back then, and this sediment core was just about 550 miles from the pole.

Just think about this when the idiots go on about climate change. Average yearly temp down there was in the mid 50Fs.

Used to go to South Africa a couple times a year on business. The guy who ran the distributor for our product used to take me to a game park on the weekends. Not like going on a game drive but the park he would take to drive around the animals was enormous. And the elephants were always my favorite.

The big problem then was Asian poachers who would kill the elephants for their tusks to make stupid eastern drugs. It was tragic and the local game wardens who loved the animals were powerless. Until they finally allowed them have guns to shoot back.

Killing those mostly gentle giants is a crime.

Yes but it's water-based and water-soluble so it doesn't last long. Vicks and similar ointments typically have a petrolatum base so they don't dry out or wash away for some time.
